Look, let’s call it what it is. Trump probably had no clue who Nicky Jam was, and calling him a woman and proceeding to call him (thinking he was a she) hot is just his typical misogyny toward women in plain sight.

Specifically, Trump said, “Latin music superstar Nicky Jam. Do you know Nicky? She’s hot.” The incident occurred during a Friday event at The Expo at World Market Center.

Trump weirdly and quickly corrected himself once Nicky Jam, Nick Rivera Caminero’s real name, approached the stage. “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up,” Trump remarked. Wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap, Nicky Jam expressed his gratitude, telling Trump, “People that come from where I come from, they don’t meet the president. So, I’m lucky. We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.”

Weird. Just plain, weird.

Nicky Jam, originally from Massachusetts and raised in Puerto Rico, is one of several reggaeton stars, including Anuel AA and Justin Quiles, who have supported Trump’s presidential candidacy. Despite the misgendering, Nicky Jam seemed to brush off the incident, posting a photo with Trump on Instagram with the caption, “Nicky jam la potra la bichota,” along with laughing emojis. The phrase translates loosely to “the filly, the big shot,” a Latin slang term popularized by Colombian singer Karol G in her 2020 song “Bichota.”

Anyway, not everyone was happy about Jam’s endorsement, and he’s receiving plenty of fallout over his appearance at the rally.

The NFL is expanding their footprint in Latin America. The league just announced that Brazilian pop superstar Anitta will headline the halftime show at the league’s first-ever game in South America, where the Green Bay Packers will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Anitta will bring her well-known energy and deep Brazilian pride to the NFL’s inaugural game in São Paulo, Brazil, at Corinthians Arena. As a Grammy-nominated global icon and native Brazilian, she is set to perform some of her biggest hits, adding to the excitement of the historic kickoff weekend for the 2024 NFL regular season.

Anitta shared, “Growing up in Brazil has completely shaped my journey as an artist and of course, as a person. It means everything to be able to perform in São Paulo at the NFL’s first game in Brazil, where I can bring fans around the world the excitement and joy of our amazing culture. British-Brazilian musician and model Saulo Oliveira S., known worldwide as the Prince of Rock, has just announced on his official website the release of a full album next year.

“I’m ready to come back! It will be my next Rock & Roll statement,” declared the rockstar, delighting fans with the promise of new music.

Fresh off his recent graduation from Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences with a degree in Arts and Design, where he studied Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and the 19th Century Orchestra, Saulo brings both academic rigor and artistic flair to his music.

Previously, it was expected that Saulo would release only a single, titled “Nighthawks.” However, with this surprise announcement, it appears the single will now be part of the upcoming album.

Saulo first gained fame at the tender age of 12 when his story went viral on the now-defunct social network Orkut. The community titled “The Boy Who Defeated the Devil and Became Bigger than God” shared the legend of Saulo’s harmonica duel with a mysterious stranger on June 6, 2006. Legend has it that the young Saulo, playing his harmonica while waiting for the school bus, was challenged to a duel by a man who promised his own harmonica if Saulo won, but demanded Saulo’s soul if he lost. Saulo’s victory earned him what became known as the Elder Harmonica, one of the most mysterious instruments in modern rock history.

For years, Saulo remained elusive, never agreeing to interviews or public performances with the Elder Harmonica—until 2020. Fans finally heard the legendary instrument in his album “Wild Horizon” and again in 2022 on the track “Macneil,” which closes the Prince of Rock EP.

Saulo Oliveira S. has become a pivotal figure in the evolution of alternative rock. His upcoming album is highly anticipated, expected to build on his legacy and deliver another memorable success. Gran Coramino® Tequila, co-founded by comedian Kevin Hart and tequila maker Juan Domingo Beckmann, has reached a significant milestone by disbursing over $1,000,000 USD in grant funds to support over 100 Black and Latinx small business owners and entrepreneurs through the Coramino Fund. This initiative, in partnership with the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), aims to empower underrepresented entrepreneurs across the U.S. and Mexico.

Since its inception in 2022, Gran Coramino Tequila has donated $1 from every bottle sold to fuel the growth of small businesses. The Coramino Fund in the U.S. has provided $10,000 grants to over 100 entrepreneurs from various industries, including retail, transportation, food services, and education. Notably, 52% of the selected businesses are Black-owned, 36% are Latinx-owned, and 12% are Black and Latinx-owned, with 66% being women-owned.

“As an entrepreneur myself, I’ve seen how early financial support can impact the long-term success of the business,” Hart said. “The Coramino Fund was created to provide support to some of the hardest working people out there — entrepreneurs and small business owners.”

“Small businesses are the economic backbone of communities,” said Michael T. Pugh, LISC president and CEO, “but many owners lack fair access to the capital and services they need to grow. We are grateful to Gran Coramino for recognizing the systemic barriers that impact the success of underrepresented entrepreneurs and developing a give-back strategy to help address them. When we invest in these businesses,” he added, “we are also investing in the well-being of the communities where they operate.”

Chef Frances Roman, owner of Cocotazo restaurant in New York City, expressed gratitude for the Coramino Fund grant, highlighting its transformative impact on her business. “As a business owner, you face ups and downs, and the Coramino Fund grant came at a time when we needed it most,” she remarked. “Since then, we’ve hired three more women and are outgrowing the space!”

Now, if you think maybe the jeans were stained that way, maybe so, but they were faded with streaks all over the denim. And get this: these were light-washed by Acne Studios and cost an excellent $620.

Lopez, 54, knows how to mix and match because she wore a blue Intimissimi Modal cashmere turtleneck top that only set her back $59 bucks. She also wore a dope navy peacoat to keep her warm during the outing, which was unbuttoned, hence not missing the dirty denim. Of course, the accessory game was on point, with a powder blue Chanel purse being carried effortlessly. Overall, it was a confident look for the superstar, dirty denim or not.

As of late, J-Lo has been spending a lot of time in New York City with her A-list actor and director husband, Ben Affleck, while they search for an apartment to rent. His family, his country, his culture: they all drove Altur Santos to become a musician. 

His mother was a renowned trumpet player, and the Dominican Republic-born Santos followed in her footsteps, becoming a professional saxophone player by the age of 14. 

“They used to sneak me in places at the back because I wasn’t old enough to play in the clubs,” he says. “I was in the studio recording saxophone for other bands. My friends and I would go outside and serenade people. That’s how it all started.”

Altur, who became one of the most sought-after saxophone players in the Dominican Republic, would lend his saxophone playing to prominent artists including Amarfis, Omega, Sin Fronteras and more. He has since expanded his musical horizons and is now making a name for himself as a solo reggaeton artist, songwriter and producer. His new single, “Vice Versa,” released on April 12th, is a fitting introduction. 

“It’s that sound you can play at the club or jam with in the car or at your house,” he says. “It’s about a girl who likes to play games and even when I know she’s playing games and I know what she’s doing and I think I’ve got her figured out, she’s always three or four steps ahead of me. She’s making me believe, to get what she wants from me.”

“I’m bringing saxophone into my songs, and the way I perform, my delivery, my way of writing and saying things, even the way I look––that’s what makes me unique,” he says. “It’s the energy I bring to the table, the energy I bring into the room.”

Altur grew up without a father in his life, and when his mother got into bad habits, he and his three little brothers went to live with his grandmother, and Santos would give money he earned with his saxophone to her to help buy food for the family. 

“It’s hard in the Dominican because it’s a Third World country and the work and the jobs you can get, it’s not so much,” he says. “It was just us and we had to figure it out ourselves.”

Altur eventually put together a small home studio and started recording himself and other local artists, while also helping write music and lyrics for other musicians. But when his mother passed away when he was 21, he stopped making music completely. 

“I didn’t want to make more music, I didn’t want to play more saxophone,” he says. “When she passed away, she was the musician, the one who brought this into me and now she’s not here. It didn’t make sense to me to be playing music.”

Then a girl came into his life, and Santos transitioned to Canada. Music came back into his life. He released his first track, and then got a call from his current manager. 

“He said he wanted to sign me,” Santos says. “I came to Toronto and I remember having a moment telling him about my life and we cried in the car. He told me I promise you I’ve got your back for the rest of my life and you’re going to be big.”

A few years later, he dropped the single “SIN DUDAS” last fall, and it’s already garnered more than a quarter of a million plays. He plans to release a few more this year after “Vice Versa” and then release an EP project. 

“My sound is constantly changing and getting better, even the writing,” he says. “I’m always adapting my vocals but keeping the essence that is my sound. It’s always getting better.”

Each of his three brothers has sought a career in music, as well. One of them is a composer who is also Altur’s primary songwriting partner. 

“I’ve mentored him since we were kids, and now he’s the only writer that I have,” Altur says. “We didn’t try to do it, it all just fell into place and now we’re all musicians.”

Jennifer Lopez has entered a new recording and publishing contract; up next will be a new album.

According to Billboard, the forthcoming ninth studio album will feature 13 tracks. The album will come on Nuyorican/BMG. It will be Lopez’s first solo album in nine years. In 2022, she dropped off a soundtrack for Marry Me alongside Maluma.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with her and her team to release her first album in nearly a decade,” said Thomas Coesfeld, BMG’s CEO in a statement.

Thomas Scherer, BMG’s president of repertoire & marketing, added: “We are both excited and proud to partner with Jennifer Lopez on this long-awaited sequel to ‘This is Me… Then.’ Clearly written with love and through experience, ‘This Is Me..Now’ is uplifting and inspiring. ‘Jenny From The Block’ is back at a point in her career when her message is bigger than ever.”

Following his arrest in the Domincan Republic, 6ix9ine is unable to leave the country for six months. According to Akademiks, the controversial rapper is currently confined the the country after he jumped two producers in the studio over an altercation with his girlfriend.

6ix9ine is not currenlty in jail, but is unable to return to the United States.

Tekashi 6ix9ine attempted to leave the Dominican Republic but was arrested before boarding his private plane. The rapper was attempting to leave the country after an assault.

According to Felix Porter, a DR-based criminal lawyer, 6ix9ine and his squad assaulted two producers over an incident involving 6ix9ine’s girlfriend. “Trying to leave the country on a private plane, Tekashi 69 turned out to have MIGRATION ALERT,” Portes shared on Instagram, according to Complex. “His trip was aborted. The popular artist is on the run, his whereabouts unknown since there is an arrest warrant issued for beatings and injuries and threats.”

The SOURCE: Your collaboration with J. Balvin in 2012 was a turning point in your career. Could you share the story of how that connection happened and how it led to producing several hits for J. Balvin’s debut studio album, La Familia?

Sky Rompiendo: The collaboration was very organic and easy. One day we hit the studio, I played him some beats and had a couple of beers and that was it. We instantly locked in and five days later we were working on the first song which was “En Lo Oscuro.” From there we started writing more, working on some hits and songs started coming in like “6 AM (feat. Farruko),” “Sola,” “Yo Te Lo Dije.” We just continued working on a bunch of albums and songs that came with that friendship and collaboration.

You’ve produced over 60 songs that have charted on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, including three No. 1 hits. What do you believe sets your production style apart and contributes to your consistent success on the charts?

Every song is special for me. When it’s an album it’s a whole journey, I go with the artist to work on the sound that they want. Even the songs that don’t make the charts, they all have something special they came from an artist who is feeling something or wanting to share something. I’m blessed to be around artists that have that responsibility to keep pushing the Latin culture. They trust me and I trust them with my songs and it’s just a strong connection I have with each of them.

In recent years, you’ve transitioned to a solo musician. Can you tell us about your decision to pivot into a solo artist and how that journey has been for you?

It’s been very interesting and exciting to be able to show people how I imagine songs, not only sonically but the concept of it. I always loved artists that have that narrative and that concept on them. Even the way they look or their lifestyle, I think now people want that too. People want to be a part of that, too even with the way social media shows that, everyone is trying to identify with somebody, so I think right now is the right time to do it.

As a solo artist, what do you want to bring to fans and how would you measure your level of success?

I want to bring fans the songs that they want to hear and the features they always wanted like what I did in “El Cielo.” Fans wanted something between Myke Towers and Feid and I threw in Mora in there because fans are the ones that run this. They are the ones that tell you who’s hot and who’s not and every artist fan base is important to me. My level of success I don’t really measure that I just enjoy what I do and I see success in other aspects of my life. I just love making music.

“El Cielo,” your collaboration with Feid and Myke Towers, was released in June 2023. Could you share the inspiration behind this song and what it means to you as a solo musician?

The inspiration was the fans because the song we wrote it two years ago. The song was a pretty dope song, and I wrote it with Feid and we didn’t really do anything with it. After two albums the song was just there, and this song just really kept catching my ears. I started seeing that fans kept asking when we’re going to have the Feid and Myke Towers collab and I played the song for Myke which he was hype about too and it was just an easy song to do.

Can you tell us about Crush, how this collaboration came about? What was the inspiration behind it?

The inspiration behind “Crush” is all these friends that I have now that are superstars now. I saw something in them, and I started making music with them. I like the vibe and see something in them that people probably haven’t seen yet. I have this platform that I have now that I’m trying to grow, and I have a strong channel for someone like Dei V who is super hype right now in Puerto Rico. He’s someone that everyone is talking about in the streets and all the big artists want to collab with him. So, I wanted to put him in my world and make a different sound for him. This song is not trap and it’s not something we are used to hearing from him and showing the world he can make a commercial song and can make a hit. That’s the inspiration and message I’m trying to give.

With your extensive experience and accolades, including three Producer of the Year nominations at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, what advice would you give to aspiring producers and artists looking to make their mark in the music industry?

It takes a lot of work, dedication, and patience. Patience is key and not think a lot about the money. Follow your dreams and instincts. Get around people who have the same vision as you or bigger.

During his first term, President Biden’s economic agenda achieved record-low Latino unemployment, supported Latino small businesses, and reduced costs for Latino families while increasing access to affordable health insurance.

While MAGA Republicans are portrayed as favoring the wealthy, President Biden’s approach prioritizes the middle class. It emphasizes rebuilding the economy from the bottom up and the middle out rather than the top down.
