Today, diamond-certified three-time GRAMMY® Award-winning hip-hop luminary Future formally details his highly anticipated new project MIXTAPE PLUTO. Continuing Future’s prolific game-changing 2024, the mixtape event of the year is set to be released on September 20, 2024. Pre-save/pre-add the mixtape here

Today Future also details an exclusive run of merchandise and physical product available for MIXTAPE PLUTO at freebandz.com, now available for pre-order. Items include bundles with limited edition t-shirts, a CD, and two vinyl variants in both black and green.

Additionally, Future continues to give fans a glimpse into the world of MIXTAPE PLUTO with the release of a new teaser for the song “TOO FAST.” Future has been igniting a frenzy across social media over the past few weeks in the run-up to the project’s release, previously sharing clips for various tracks across the mixtape, including hints of collaboration with Travis Scott.

Check out the “Too Fast” preview HERE

Earlier this week, Future wrapped up a sold-out arena run with Metro Boomin, the critically acclaimed WE TRUST YOU TOUR. The run saw the two superstars traverse across North America – including historic nights at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, and Los Angeles’ brand-new Intuit Dome. Billboard called the show “a testament to how deep Future’s catalog and bag of hits really iswhile GQ celebrated the fact that “two great albums and a rejuvenated live show confirm Future’s powers are as strong as they’ve ever been.”

unnamed 10

Appropriately titled, the tour was in support of Future and Metro Boomin’s explosive, chart-topping collaborative albums released earlier this year: WE DON’T TRUST YOU and its follow-up, WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU. The albums highlight the duo’s magnetic chemistry–which Rolling Stone calls “seamless”–and went on to capture the entire music industry’s attention, piquing competitive interests in ways not seen in years. The albums officially landed Future his ninths and tenth number 1 albums on the Billboard 200, while the single “Like That” featuring Kendrick Lamar spent a blistering 3 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This run became, as Billboard stated, “the biggest story in rap.”

And now, with MIXTAPE PLUTO, Future continues to shape the sound of hip hop as a new chapter is written in the career of one of rap’s most inventive and influential wordsmiths.  A body of work stripped down to pure unadulterated Future, it’s simply Pluto at his core essence. It’s MIXTAPE PLUTO.

This week’s MLB playlist comes from Terrance. California born utility man for the Cleveland Guardians organization, former USC star Tyresse Turner. The switch hitting right hander was recruited to the Guardians’ High-A Lake County Captains before being shifted to the Lynchburg Hillcats, hitting .238 with 23 RBIs and 30 stolen bases with both teams that year.

This year, the 24-year-old Turner took his talents to the Double-A Akron Rubberducks(another Cleveland Guardians affiliate) and back to Lake County, where he now boasts a .250 batting average, with 25 RBIs including four homers in 68 games. Turner was mainly used as an infielder in his first year, playing all positions except first first base for the Captains and the Hillcats, but was switched to left field and utilized as a designated hitter half of his time on the field for the Rubberducks and the Captains in 2024.

Even as a West Coaster, Turner still has a Dirty South musical taste, with heavy NoCap, Gunna, Rod Wave and others from South of the Mason/Dixon. He still reps the Golden State with some Nipsey and Buddy collaboration flavors. It’s a plenty lengthy array of Turner’s favorites, so check out the playlist courtesy of the good people at Black baseball Mixtape!

QUE LO QUE!

This week’s playlist comes from Brooklyn Cyclones’ on fire infielder Junior Tilien. This 21-year-old has been increasingly delivering for the Mets organization since being signed in 2021. Tilien played for the Florida Complex League when he was signed, but was quickly called up to St. Lucie the next year at 19 years old, putting up a .248 batting average 12 homers and a whopping 44 RBIs in just 84 games.

The Dominican Republic-born right hander struggled in his first year in Coney Island and was sent back to redeem himself before he returned back to Brooklyn in 2024. After leading off the line up for the first half of the season, Tilien’s consistency at the plate got him shifted to the clean up position for a good part of the summer, even with him in the batter’s box as the DH when he wasn’t on the field. In 103 games with the Cyclones this year, Tilien BA is a modest .228, with 84 hits, including six HRs, 40 RBIs and slashing .304/.329/.632.

Now, Tilien’s musical taste is definitely culturally centered for the young man from San Pedro de Macoris, the city known among Latin baseball aficionados as the “Cradle of Shortstops”, with his selection being heavy with classic reggaeton, dembow and even salsa cuts. Check out Tilien’s one-of-a-kind playlist exclusively here from the Black Baseball Mixtape.

Meachem, a Fayetteville, NC native who pitched for the North Carolina A&T Aggies, became the 21st player from NC A&T to be drafter by a MLB team.

In his first season on the rubber with the Miami organization, Meachem gained a 2.33 ERA with 98 Ks and nine saves in 65.2 IP. At a ripe 21 years old, Meachem is destined to bring some heat to the Marlins’ bullpen in the seasons to come.

As a young man from the Dirty South, Meachem’s playlist packs a lot of bops from below the Mason/Dixon, with artists like Lil Baby, Future, Gunna, Young Thug and Mustard on heavy rotation. This week, Washington Nats’ pitcher Marquis Grissom Jr., son of 2X All Star and World Series champion Marquis Grissom Sr., has decided to share his musical taste courtesy of Black Baseball Mixtape.

Grissom Jr., who is currently the Nationals organization’s #28 prospect, pitched his entire first full season as a closer for Single-A Fredericksburg, racking up 11 saves while earning a 2.18 ERA with 39 Ks in 41 1/3 innings. He opened 2024 in the High-A Wilmington bullpen and moved up to Double-A Harrisburg after dominating the South Atlantic League.

The 6-foot-2 RHP shows average velocity around the 92-94 mph range, but can run his fastball up to 96-97 too. The standout pitch, however, is easily his low-80s changeup. Not only does the pitch get solid separation from the average heater, but it also fades nicely to Grissom’s armside, leading to some funky swings by left-handed hitters. He held lefties to a .448 OPS during his time with Wilmington, compared to .550 for righties.

As for Grissom’s audible palate, the L.A. born/Atlanta-bred righty doesn’t really go for too many commercialized artists with the exception of Future and Metro Boomin, preferring artists such as Detroit’s Veeze and Cash Kidd, as well as Philly’s Argo and Alabama favorite NoCap. Check out his short but solid selection of hits below courtesy of the good people at Black Baseball Mixtape!

We need to talk about those ‘Prison Tapes’ snippets Tory Lanez just teased on his new Instagram profile @thetorytapes.

Full stop. How ever you feel about Tory Lanez, his incarceration and the victims who were affected by his case – who need to be shown respect at the highest levels, one thing is undeniable, these snippets are fire.

Okay onto the music … On Friday (July 26) Lanez’s dropped content on his official Instagram account. The post included snippets of has been reported as two newly released songs.

We all know he’s locked up but the quality of the music is insane, but lets continue …

The caption broke down two song titles: ‘Wish I Never Met You,’ and ‘Cell 245’

It gets more interesting. The songs are a part of a new project he’s calling ‘The Prison Tapes.’ Appropriate name if there ever was one.

But check this out, the Gram profile says new drops from Lanez will come out every Friday, indefinitely. Feels like Quarantine Radio all over again.

Here’s the caption from his post:

“‘The Prison Tapes’ Out Now  Wish I Never Met You  Cell 245 Dropping every week on @thetorytapes”

And looks like the records are out on platforms so go press play and tell us what you think.

In the meantime, here are some comments from the first IG post reacting to the drop:

This week’s playlist comes from a Virginia native as well as a former Norfolk State University baseball standout who took his skills on the diamond down to Georgia to play for the world famous Savannah Bananas. Known affectionately by his name on the field “Showtime”, Crosby was originally drafted into the Pioneer Baseball League, which is a MLB affiliate league in the Mountain states and Showtime was drafted by the Northern Colorado Owiz.

The former All-American was signed to the Bananas as a “utility player” at the top of 2024, meaning that Savannah could use Crosby at any position on the field. The Bananas’ Number 17 appreciates his opportunity to play with the Savannah Bananas this year as he continues to pursue his career in baseball and represent his home town of Richmond.

Now Crosby has a unique playlist, consisting of HUNDREDS of tracks that last a total of more than seven hours. Also, Showtime’s music selection isn’t Hip Hop centered, but he definitely has some classics from the likes of Nas, Jay-Z, Travis Scott, Kanye West and DJ Khaled, however, his audible palate is select, iso he’s ncluded songs from the likes of Roy Ayers, Willie Hutch, Janet Jackson and even the late, great Rick James. Today, South Florida rapper Kodak Black drops his record label, Vulture Love’s first official project, Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies On Earth. Listen HERE via Vulture Love / Capitol Records. Brimming with ferocious bars and bone-rattling beats, the 15-track collection showcases the new generation of rap stars. Alongside Kodak, the label compilation boasts contributions from VVSNCE, Lil Crix, G6reddot, GorditoFlo, Big Fredo, Jay Dirty, Taji Akeil, Project Pooh, NFL Tuewop, Jit4 Stan, Yung Mula, and JME Tmoe. Production credits include SkipOnDaBeat, ATL Jacob, Xairr, Dr. Zuez, Ayo B, and more.

“I got the next generation of stars. I have a voice in this game and I’m using it to put my artists on until everyone knows their names. Watch out for Vulture Love. We ain’t stopping.” – Kodak Black

To complement Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies On Earth, the first lady of Vulture LoveVVSNCE releases her summery “Palm Trees” video. Watch HERE. Meanwhile, G6reddot partners with Kodak on the island of Capri in “The Way.” Watch HEREG6reddot is an award-winning songwriter with success which includes penning on Cardi B’s hit number one record “Up.”

Among the many standouts on the project is “Feel My Face,” a face-off between Kodak and G6reddot that manages to be soulful and sentimental — while also not pulling any punches. Other highlights include “Like a Cowboy, an old-school low-end bumper that leans into Kodak’s melodic hook complemented by bars from NFL Tuewop, Big Fredo and VVSNCE, and the climatic track “Good Day,” which pairs G6reddot, VVSNCE, and JME Tmoe trading verses amid a gospel choir and thumping percussion. Then there’s the ominous “Whippin Alot” which find Kodak and Yung Mula boasting their confidence.

As expected, Kodak spearheads the collective, bringing his inimitable brand of rap to solo sizzlers “1800 Degrees” and “Lil Bra Dem.” He champions his newcomers who also get their moment to shine such as VVSNCE’s “Palm Trees” and Lil Crix’s “I Can’t Turn Down.” In short, the talent on display on Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies On Earth is nothing short of show-stopping. See the full tracklist below.

Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies On Earth arrives on the heels of Kodak’s recent introspective singles Dis Time,” “Stressed Out,” and Non Believer.” It was preceded by Shampoo,” a confident burst of street rap that typifies the style that made him a superstar. Of course, that song followed When I Was Dead, an engrossing album in which Kodak explores both his nightmares and blood-stained aspirations. Featuring the smash hit Lemme See,” the project only reaffirmed Kodak’s status as one of the most gifted artists of his generation.

Kodak’s status transcends the rap world. Over the years, he has cultivated the role of a prophetic storyteller in the culture at large, and his reach continues to grow. He holds over 25 billion global streams to his name and continues altruism towards his Pompano Beach community. Now, with Vulture Love Presents: The Last Zombies On Earth, Kodak propels Vulture Love into the spotlight giving the next generation their shot.

As it is often said that the “third time is the charm”, but in the world of the 5%, the third time is the understanding. In his third project since being introduced on Lord Jamar’s The 5% Album in 2006, New Rochelle(Now Rule) native drops this official mixtape featuring Wu Tang Clan in-house producer Iron Sheik titled ‘For Promotional Use Only Vol.1’.

His first solo joint, Living Mathematics, received critical acclaim which pushed the emcee/spoken word artist to continue his mission. When asked about his metamorphosis from spoken word artist to full fledged recording artist, Kasim says, “I took what Jamar told me and ran with it. I was still deep into the spoken word at that point because I could still spit these righteous and conscious lyrics. Nobody was hearing that in Hip Hop no more. I was doing poetry and that’s how Jamar decided to call me.”

Over an entire decade later, Kas recruited New York-born/L.A.-based Wu Tang producer Iron Sheik, who’s the brainchild of the project, seemed like the perfect blend for Kasim’s third effort. Keeping the tradition of the mixtape era, Kasim has enlisted “The Mixtape Queen” DJ Lazy K(Max B, French Montana) to host this monumental production ,which is being presented by Kas’ own label, Little George Music.

Leading the wave of For Promotional Use are remakes of two timeless Hip Hop classics by rappers who were/are also 5%ers; “I Ain’t No Joke” by Rakim and Big Daddy Kane’s “Ain’t No Half Steppin'”. With no samples cleared, Kasim ups the ante on cadence, delivery and overall pure lyrical skills.

Gearing up for her biggest and most personal season yet, multi-platinum recording artist Coi Leray presents a dynamic new EP entitled Blue Moon out now via Uptown Records/Republic Records.

Once again, the project finds Coi firing on all cylinders, using her songwriting as a diary to reveal her unique perspective on life. She laces highly quotable bars with irresistible hooks, showcasing her lyrical acumen and impressive vocal delivery at the same time. She opens up the world of Blue Moon with the single and music video “Isabel Marant. Ethereal production underscores her breathy verses as she reminds, “They can’t fuck with Coi Leray. It culminates on a hypnotic hook that’s impossible to shake. The accompanying visual intercuts vignettes of Coi underwater, shimmering in blue glitter, and ruling this fever dream like a bossed-up high fashion mermaid.

Connecting deeper with her fans, she passionately shared on Instagram, “This EP, I get vulnerable. I got tired of “trying” new things and wanted to just do what I do BEST. I have a hard time with telling my story because I get wrapped up in the media narratives, however music is the best way for me to tell it. Sorry I can’t argue with yall on the internet all day. It’s my life, my story, so why not let me tell it? Shit.. at least give me a chance to. The amount of pressure I have on me in the music industry is wild. I mean, who knew I would be walking red carpets and stages with the same icons I listened to growing up. Being nominated or sitting next to ICONS on the Billboard charts in my lil 5-year run. I’m just grateful to have come this far. Just like @bustarhymes said, “who am I to judge someone who’s journey isn’t finished?” Enjoy – Coi”

Simultaneously, she has continued to make waves in the fashion world as one of the culture’s hottest crossover stars.

TRACKLIST:

  1. Liquor & Weed
  2. Wicked Butterflies
  3. Isabel Marant
  4. Still Dreaming

'No Ceilings 3' Hinges on Nostalgia from the Mixtape Weezy Era

Oh, the nostalgia! For true fans of the culture, Lil Wayne has finally dropped his highly-anticipated project, No Ceilings 3, hosted by DJ Khaled.

The New Orleans legend gave us a solid, 20 track project that clocks in at a little over an hour and takes us back down a road so many of us remember extremely well. Starting with small teasers from DJ Khaled on Instagram.

“The mixtape game seemed to be a dying art and since I’m one of the pioneers of the craft, and it played such a big part in my career, I felt it was only right to resurrect it,” Lil Wayne told Complex “Also, it’s a lot of songs out here I wanted to kill my way!”

The project gives fans a few interesting features and guest appearances from top tier artists like Drake on “BB King Freestyle” and Atlanta’s Young Thug on “Out West.” He also brings on board, newcomers Hoodbaby and Euro. Wayne also enlists Young Money family Gudda Gudda and Cory Gunz. In a proud dad move, Wayne taps in his sons Young Kam Carter, Lil Tune, and Young Carter on “Kam,” “FL4M3$” and “Hollywood” respectively. And the youth don’t disappoint. Easy to tell they’ve been groomed by one of the greatest to ever do it.

Lil Wayne continues the tradition of rapping over popular previously “used” beats and follows its two predecessors from 2015 and 2009. For this installment of the series, we hear the New Orleans rapper jumping on cuts like the late Pop Smokes “Dior,” “Shake the Room” and “For the Night,” Drake’s “Laugh Now Cry Later” and Travis Scott’s “SICKO MODE” to name a few.

Wayne initially announced the project in August 2016, by confirming that both No Ceilings 3 and Tha Carter VI were on the way. There are also rumors buzzing of other projects on the horizon, including a new Nicki Minaj album, The collaboration “I Can’t Feel My Face 2” with Juelz Santana, and even a follow up to Collegrove 2 with 2 Chainz.

Last week, Wayne was hit with felony weapons charges that stem from a discovery on his private plane in 2019, which could land him jail for 10 years if he’s convicted.

Only a couple of months ago, Lil Wayne was under fire for his seemingly strong allegiance to President Donald Trump. And if nothing else, he added a little fuel to the fire with the lyrics, “Workin’ on my demons, that’s beautiful Bae off that Reisling, she’s super loose I’m smoking, she says pass it, she’s doing to much Haven’t done my taxes, f—ing with Trump”

No Ceilings 3- Track list

1. “V8”
2. “B.B. King Freestyle” featuring Drake
3. “Lamar”
4. “For the Night”
5. “Something Different”
6. “Life Is Good”
7. “Peggy Bundy”
8. “Out West” featuring Young Thug

Since then, the Afrobeat titan has spent the last four years weaving duality as he battles with capitalizing on the commercial catapult that serves as the foundation for his recording contract with RCA while also keeping his stronghold in the markets of African natives and the diaspora alike. In the three years since his major-label debut, Sounds From The Other Side, it seems that Wizkid has quietly tiptoed with the latter, eyeing great expansion with cuts such as “Fever,” “Ghetto Love,” and “Joro” among many others, establishing a slow blend of afrobeat, highlife and dancehall themes to construct a defined sound.

Still, proof of its ability to resonate with more unfamiliar markets hasn’t prevailed with WizKid cleverly addressing such complications by releasing full bodies of work under his Starboy imprint and collaborating with plenty of producers on their own titled cuts, free of label obligations. Yet as he arrives with his fourth career album, Made In Lagos, WizKid has finally conquered the balance rope, proudly displaying an accomplished sound a decade in the making.

At first glance, the star power of chosen collaborators across the 14 track effort marks the most obvious leg of this multi-pronged approach to pull Wizkid in the direction of global conquest. Those paying attention will find that Made In Lagos boasts a continuation of the sonic success found on Starboy’s SoundMan Vol. 1 output.

This time around, however, Wizkid successfully crosses borders to compound effectively. On “Smile”, Caribbean soundscapes adorn the catalog while label mate H.E.R. lends flowy vocals in a duet that has immediately captured fans stateside. African Giant Burna Boy trades off on star power on “Ginger” and the two exchange in a friendly fight for command on the energetic cut. On selections such as “Piece Of Me” and “Essence”, singers Ella Mai and Tems offer respective smoldering performances that underscore Wizkid’s own propensity to craft sultry standouts that resonate across markets. All the while, no one appearance powers through enough to elevate the project past any threshold already set by Wiz himself.

He makes room for proper inspection on solo outings found on Made In Lagos. “Mighty Wine,” “No Stress,” and “Gyrate,” for instance, find Wizkid in his element, cutting sensual anthems to score late night bashments and the like.

On the other hand, he leads with bouncy braggadocio on tracks like projct opener “Reckless” and the Damian Marley-assisted “Blessed.”

“I know sey dem go pray on my downfall/I’m still a winner,” he declares (“Reckless”), setting the bar for his own expectations. It signals a tone of conviction as Wizkd comfortably wades in his aural sweet spot. In 2020, his legacy is fastened. He’s less focused on awareness of his product and is rather laser-focused on expansion.

In that spirit, Made In Lagos, which was first delayed due to brewing violence on the homefront as WizKid took a pause to join in solidarity with the #ENDSARS movement, interestingly takes both the form of a wondrous homecoming and a bittersweet homegoing as Wiz begins to strategically taper into the rest of the world on his own merit. While the effort doesn’t sonically push the boundaries beyond what Wizkid has been crafting within the past few years, it does mark a safe formula that has the potential to finally solidify him as an undisputed heavyweight throughout the rest of the world.

KGoon Tables Turn

KGoon’s been waiting on this moment,

Raised in Montreal, the predominantly french-speaking city approximately 340 miles miles east of Toronto, the young rapper has been part of a music renaissance in a city with a slew talent left often overlooked.

And as he delivers his debut release, Goon is making sure that all eyes are now fixated on him.

We got opportunity to draw a few words from the rising star about his project and his city.

Check it out below and take a highly recommended listen to Tables Turn.

The Source: What’s the significance behind the name Tables Turn?

KGoon: We come from the mud. At one point nobody cared about what I had to say. I was overlooked in my city. I’m the underdog, but I’m shining now. The tables have turned.

How long were you working on this project? Was it something that you’ve been putting together from the start or did you just decide to put together a project one day?

I’ve been rapping all my life, but this is my debut project. I didn’t want to release anything before I was ready. I’ve been inspired this past year and Tables Turn is the result of it all. Patience was key.

Your sound is on a very consistent slope. What influences can you cite that have had an impact on the music you’ve chosen to create and how you create it?

My favorite artists and those who have influenced my music are artists like Future, Kodak, NBA Young Boy, A Boogie, Lil’ Wayne, 50 Cent.

The Hip-Hop scene in Montreal doesn’t get enough love in comparison to Toronto. Why do you think that is? Do you see a noticeable shift on the horizon for the city?

Toronto has some of the biggest names in the game right now, but I believe our time is coming. I do this for Montreal, can’t let ’em down.

Talk about Paper Boyz Squad. I take it there are more members of the crew. What can we expect from PBS as a whole in the coming future?

PBS is a movement, a family. Every person that’s part of this family has been here since day 1, no new faces. There is more talent on the team that we’ll be sharing with the world in due time.

If you haven’t already heard, rap music is the new Rock ‘n’ Roll. Stage dives, mosh pits, and heavy metal personality are the new themes that have begun to take Hip Hop to a whole new level of energy . Stemming from underground rap culture, artists like Lil Uzi Vert and Travis Scott have already begun to bring this new wave to mainstream audiences and the response of the youth has started a shift in Hip Hop culture. But as any true music fan knows, nothing starts with the mainstream; especially in 2017, where the vast majority of todays trends are born on Twitter or Instagram. According to the internet, this punk rock-rap lifestyle crossover has been going on for the past few years and has a few unsung patrons scattered across the country keeping things authentic. One of these such artists is Washington, D.C.’s own The Khan.

Hailing from Uptown, The Khan has grown to become an inescapably influential member of the local D.C. underground music scene, the same scene that has delivered artists Yung GleeshJay IDK, Goldlink, and Shy Glizzy. As a member of the ATOMOS collective, whose members include rapper-models yungthroatslayer, MAHI MONTANA and Redd, The Khan has been setting trends and shutting down venues throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area since he was 17 years old, and has created a title wave of punk inspired creative influence. Along with DC native rappers $pacemob, Nappy Nappa and WIFIGAWD, The Khan has created a new sound for city, one that follows in the innovative footsteps of Bad Brains and Chuck Brown. Now, at 20, The Khan has branched out and is taking his music across the country, jumping between New York City, Los Angeles, and his former stomping ground of 14th and Wild.

KHANNER is the heavy hitting, very rough, very raw, follow-up to his debut mixtape KHANQUER, which hit the internet last year. Released on his his birthday, KHANNER shows the creative growth that The Khan has experienced over the past year. With this project one can easily tell that The Khan has become truly comfortable with his sound and is ready to take his rockstar image to the next level.

Featuring production from Antisocial, Makkmillion, and Oogiemane, member of the up-and-coming Philly production collective Working on Dying, KHANNER is sonically unique in more ways than one. Inspired heavily by Jim Morrison and Waka Flocka Flame, The Khan tries to adequately balance the high energy of two genres that have more in common than most listeners today give credit. In true Gemini fashion, he captures the darkness and chaos of both trap and punk and delivers ten tracks that are impossible to listen to sitting still.

This project, along with others that have come out over the past year, show a shift in the culture with a new musical direction for Hip Hop leaning back toward its Rock ‘n’ Roll roots. This new ‘punk-rap’ sub-genre may be the sound of the future. Only time will tell if The Khan, and those like him, will continue to keep the mosh going.

For years, it seemed like the art of the rap group was dying in music. It seemed as though consumers were more intrigued with solo acts, and groups were forming but crumbling at an alarming rate. Then, you turn on music from a group like 23rd Nation, and you’re forced to step back, and as a hip hop enthusiast you step back and think that the art of the rap group is alive, and well.

23rd Nation, with blends of Lil Wayne, Wu Tang, Outkast, and millennial fire power, delivers a breathtaking body of work on Fear The 23rd.

Start to finish listens are a rarity today, even amongst mainstream heavyweights. It’s usually because of redundancy. If an artists’ track list has 10 songs, if after five songs you’ve heard the same track five times, then you won’t want to hear the next five. With 23rd Nation, because of the shock value from track to track, and all of the different sounds, and voice manipulations, running through this eight song track list was actually easy, and boosted its replay value.

When Did Fear The 23rd Go Up

When you get to “Fire, Fire”, and you swivel your head looking for Travis Scott to jump on the track, you know that what these guys have is special, and industry ready, like today. The transition from “Isabella” to “Fire, Fire” was that shock value before mentioned, and was an early indicator that the listener would be able to let the entire project run. Sometimes the first 2-3 tracks of a project can be deceiving, but this didn’t lend itself for skepticism, but rather provided hope.

Fear The 23rd By The Halfway Mark

At Halftime, what was the status of the project? Well, “Wind Up” provided lyrical excercise, but in a catchy manner. At times, artist have to compromise one for the other, but on first listen, it seems as though 23rd Nation has that skill down to a science. They have seemingly mastered the art of conveying a message, while keeping the listener engaged, and “Wind Up” at the halfway Mark was a great indication of such. Once again, halftime of a project is the perfect chance to either lose your audience, or keep them along for the home stretch, and 23rd Nation certainly accomplished the latter. “Wind Up” though, could’ve been placed multiple places on the project, but holding it down at #4 was perfect as a Segway to the backend of the project, it wasn’t deceptive, and it fit into the overall vision of the project.

Fear The 23rd On The Backend

How does your project clean up? Artist like Future, Drake, Beyonce, the megastars, they’ve mastered the art of the album ending. It’s all so intentional. Seems as though 23rd Nation is from this same creative makeup, but the backend of Fear The 23rd is so carefully composed. The pocket from “23rd Gang” to “Starfall” is masterful, colorful, grimy, lyrical, and compiled of three bangers. Then, “Adanqua” rounds out the project with a soulful, churchy blend, to close out the show, and wrapped up what was a musical experience.

Ultra Light Fear The 23rd?

This new mix of spiritual, and hip hop has taken the game by storm, led by Chance The Rapper, and Kanye To The. 23rd Nation has taken its opportunity to shine the light on Fear The 23rd with all its GOD Dream references, and the game should be here for it. This in a sense is taking the ultimate stance, and takes art to a new level. An art that can/will be appreciated for generations to come. “Adanqua” is so raw, and honest, and transparent, and if like myself, you weren’t familiar with the collective before, then now you know exactly what they stand for, and what their mission is.

What would top-charting tracks sound like with now a more female-centric take? Better yet, with the voices of the baddest in urban music?

Hmm, well pretend these are math problems someone posted to the ‘gram.

1. (D.R.A.M.’s “Broccoli” feat. Lil Yachty) x (DJ Carisma) = ?
2. (Kap G’s “Girlfriend”) x (Mila J) = ?
3. (DJ Esco’s “Too Much Sauce” feat. Future and Lil Uzi Vert) x (PJ) = ?
4. (DJ Mustard’s “Want Her” feat. Quavo and YG) x (Cam & China) = ?

And bonus question:

(DJ Khaled’s “Do You Mind” feat. Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, August Alsina, Jeremih, Future, and Rick Ross) ÷ (everyone who’s not Nicki Minaj but also keep the Khaled) x (Sevyn Streeter, Dreezy, Lyrica Anderson, and Siya) = ??????

There are bound to be quite a few confused followers in the comments trying to put together all this greatness in one. But a single MVP posts the right answers. That one person is REAL 92.3 LA’s DJ Carisma. And the right answer is This Is The Queen Mix. And to put an end to this Instagram metaphor, I assure you that this boggling series of musical equations is in fact real. The Los Angeles DJ just dropped her mixtape of dope ladies-first remixes, posting on social media, “So I decided to get with sum of my favorite female artist and flip sum of the hottest tracks out! Hope y’all enjoy.” So go on now, press play:

Dave East's 'Kairi Chanel' Depicts Various Inspirational Factors and Hard work

Harlem is the territory of Dave East — enduring struggle and pinpointing inspiration/motivation, all at once. “Only motivation I ever needed was section 8,” East rapped on Nipsey Hussle’sClarity.” Applying his words as a paintbrush and the studio utilized as his canvas, East’s success thrives off of real life and vivid memory. From Change of Plans to his recent body of work Kairi Chanel, it’s been a steady climb of unforced movement. Manager Wayno and East’s tactics haven’t been used with force; if the situation isn’t right, patience becomes key. There’s a nostalgic feeling within this latest release – that many “hip-hop heads” wanted badly — specifically from a New York artist. Although it’s not his debut album, a lot of inaugural listeners tuned in for this project.

In March of this year, East and long-time girlfriend welcomed their daughter Kairi Chanel, into the world. Kairi became the inspiration behind the title of the project. East told Billboard, “I feel it’s my best work to date. I named it after my daughter, because she’s the greatest and most defining moment of my life.” He continued on with, “everything I’ve done up until now has led me to her, so I translated that into music.”

Dave East's 'Kairi Chanel' Depicts Various Inspirational Factors and Hard work

Life most certainly isn’t the same for the Def Jam-signee. What was once rain-filled days, has turned into sunshine. We’re passed the hype of the Nas cosign. We know East can spit, and we’re just interested about what his next line will be in a song — circling into his next move. Although Nas isn’t featured on the album, the intro track “It Was Written” was inspiration enough for East. His favorite album from Nas is “It Was Written,” writing his destiny that’s inherited from what he’s seen and learned. “Everybody keep telling me make a club record/ ‘you ain’t trapping no more, stop making drug records’/ you got a daughter bout to come, stop making thug records.” It’s the opening lines that was used during his XXL Freshman freestyle. From spending majority of his time working on his jump shot, to working on his next hook, East didn’t always see the path of music coming; basketball was his way out. After a six-month stint in jail, East returned to make music and let the hoop dreams go. “It took a lot to get this Rollie,” East began on the track “It Was Written.” Most certainly it did take a lot for him to get to this point.

On the album, we’re offered a little bit of everything.  East is able to have a certain raw attitude to his sound, yet keep it modern for more listeners to be lured to.  On “Type of Time” produced by Cardo, East displays this to the upmost of his ability. Utilizing a flow that has become revived, he shows no issue with mixing in truth with a likable cadence.

East demands attention and his tone is something you Can’t Ignore; no ignoring the hunger in his voice on the 2 Chainz-assisted track. Chainz asked East to “send him something he can really rap on, leading to the strong verses the two artist delivered – from Harlem to Atlanta. “Again” provides a similar attention-grabbing system, located from East’s beast-like delivery. But let’s keep in mind; East’s primary objective is now to get this sound out beyond Harlem, Ravenswood housing, and New York in general.

Focused in on getting his sound heard more, East inked a deal with Def Jam. “It’s at a time now where I really need a machine,” East told The Breakfast Club. “I’m not gonna say need, but it really helps what I’m trying to do, especially being from New York and not trying to stay in New York. As I told ya’ll before, I’m not trying to be underground or classified as a certain type of dude.” Some who listened to East’s music prior to signing the deal, say he has changed and they liked his music before. East responded saying “N***as Sign A New Deal And N***as Couldn’t Wait To Say “I Liked His Mixtapes And Music Before The Deal” Fucc Outta Here Ain’t S**t Changed!!!” Barely arguable, East does just that, maintaining the essence and roots that got him to this point, but taking it a step further with lyrics and production.

The first single released from the album was “Keisha,” the tell-all story of a Jamaica, Queens-native who ended up sleeping with East, before robbing him of jewelry, money, and even his phone. Story-driven to the max, East remains so clean and evocative with his lyrics – you feel like you’re in his shoes and you escape yourself for a little over four minutes. The track draws comparisons to Mobb Deep, Mos Def, and at times Lloyd Banks – if we’re speaking on narration.

Just when you thought the story-telling tracks couldn’t get any better, East delivers “Don’t Shoot.” We’re damn-near in crisis-type times in America, and artists are sharing their thoughts through different avenues. On “Don’t Shoot,” East takes us through the mind of a young boy in the neighborhood to a grown man who still faces obstacles with the law. Capturing the emotions numerous African-Americans deal with, he cleverly auto-tunes his voice for the adolescent portion of the song. Without a beat, this song will still hold weight and the message is timeless.

Ain’t no more weed in the car sir, the blunt gone
I got my hands ups, officer what’s the problem?
Please don’t shoot me sir, I just had a daughter
Look here go a *gun shots sound off*

Collaboration wise, East connected with Fabolous, Beanie Sigel, The Game, 2 Chainz, Sevyn Streeter, and Jazzy Amra, and Harlem native Cam’ron. Production is grabbed from various producers, including Buda & Grandz, Triple A, Cardo, Mr. AuthenticPhonix Beats, Cashflo, JermMoney Montage, and Rich Icy. East captures the essence of New York, while creating his own essence of New York.

If older rappers and Hip-Hop heads wanted to voice their opinion on new rappers not embracing the culture properly – as it once was before, now is not the time. East embodies himself a true modern day emcee. This a project you can’t ignore.

I talked my way right up out the projects n***a
Put your mind to it, anything is possible haha

This Volume of B. Walkers Lifestyle Mixtape is indeed an original as well as the first to come from the fashion forward footwear BWalkers. With work by Styles PGucianno, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Lumidee, Kae Hok, Swerv, and many others. B Walker Lifestyle Original Mixtape Volume 1 has a nice contrast and blend from each individual artist that was featured on the tape. Accredited mixing and mastering work by DJ Dayzel The Machine at D Block Studios. This compilation included diverse and bilingual lyricists as well. It’s definitely an album you can enjoy an evening out to. There is a smooth transition from beginning to end. . The blend included songs that changed tempos seemingly with the groove and flow of a “night out” as well as a detailed description from King Asiatic Nobody’s Equal(Big Daddy Kane) about the comfort and status of the footwear from the B Walker brand. Some of the dopest tracks include “Like I Do”, “Walk This Way” and “Step Up”. The featured artist brought heat and credible lyricism to this project produced by Hasan Brown and JD Stewart. The scratches and DJ adlibs could have been more seamless but All in all, one would not regret the download. Looking forward to volume 2.

In a cultural landscape desperately seeking authenticity, talent and genuine passion, Brooklyn’s G4SHi is leading a revolution entirely his own, with both middle fingers up and his signature gold-adorned grin gleaming.

Unapologetically himself, the young musician has fought battles and overcome challenges that permanently separate him from the pack, drawing from his experiences to help season his ever-evolving sound, such as growing up as an African-born Albanian refugee and navigating through life as a first-generation American.

As a natural tastemaker, he is fully involved in the creative process behind his artistry; building an ardent argument he’s not only the full package but that he’s up next. From the compelling visuals often accompanying his music to the detail-oriented compositions found in each song, everything with his name on it, he’s touched and helped turn to gold. His latest offering, a seven-track EP entitled Stairs, is further proof he’s only just getting started.

While successfully balancing a mysterious allure with a lyrically blunt honesty, G4SHi’s strengths on Stairs lie in his ability to curate the direction he envisions his art moving and in turn, crafts what can be best categorized as mood music. As an artist, he thinks bigger picture, allowing himself to make a believer out of the most cynical listener with ease, winning over new ears each passing day through his on-point production choices and stylistically forward-thinking vocal delivery.

There is a devious element behind each song on Stairs that is as charming as it is menacing. This can only be achieved through authoritative decision-making and risk-taking, two things the charismatic G4SHi has seldom struggled with throughout his budding career.

While Stairs differs momentously from his 2014 full length debut 4Play, his decision to move away from the sounds found in contemporary underground Hip Hop and come into his own consciously was the best move for him to make and in doing so organically, he’s operating on a new level. Fans that consider G4SHi solely a rapper do him a great disservice, and while less open-minded rap purists may be resistant to his new innovative sound, there’s a ceaseless confidence rooted in his music trusting that those who leave him will be back. He’s evolved, and Stairs is a true, remorseless testament to that.

From the project’s first track, “Avni,” all the way through to its closer, “Dubai” G4SHi familiarizes listeners to several different layers of his complex individuality without diving too deep, exposing a vulnerability that can only be commended while furthermore leaving room for his opus to manifest as he matures as a recording artist.

While each song paints a vivid picture greatly contrasting from the story depicted in the song playing before it, all are interlaced together by multidimensional, tactful production and G4SHi’s cunning rhyme-singing. The project’s intriguing depth promises listeners will get openly lost in the soundscapes he creates, such as in the sensual world of “Soho House,” the on-repeat anthem celebrating the real homies “Day Ones” and the undeniably cool, icy vibe of “Jean Claude Van Damme.” “Switch Up” offers something for those nostalgic for his Hip Hop roots while “Personal” touches on new territory with its powerful, downtempo moments.

If Stairs were a collection designed and fit for a runway show, it would encompass the luxury of Oscar De La Renta, the experimental, dark side of Givenchy and the timelessness of Chanel, all while harnessing the curious appeal that the now-essential Kanye West Yeezy line holds.

When G4SHi attests, “Everything you need to know about me, you can learn from my music,” he truly means it. The autobiographical lyrics that make up Stairs are never sugarcoated and as a result, it’s difficult to not to be captivated by his songwriting and his distinctively strong personality as it’s carefully woven into his music.

As each track casts a spell over those wandering in late to the function while further solidifying the support of his already heart-eyed and growing fan base, G4SHi is putting himself on the board in a permanent way with Stairs. This project is acting both as a sophisticated reintroduction to G4SHi as the extraordinary artist he is becoming and a much-needed reminder that against all odds, the best music speaks for itself.

With Diamond Mind, the ambitious debut EP of newcomer Pearl Gates, the rapper succeeds in introducing his well-rounded nature as a taste-making musician. He also surrounds himself with the best company, including guest appearances from acts like Masta Ace, Wordsworth and Khrysis of Justus League (9th Wonder).

Hailing from Washington Heights, Gates released his first mixtape A Star In A Broken Sky in 2014, representing hard for New York City and for underground Hip-Hop heroes alike. Shortly following the release, Gates appeared alongside eMC (Masta Ace, Wordsworth and Stricklin) on “Fly Thoughts,” the first single from their album The Tonight Show.

With a balance of forward-thinking experimentation and vocally and gritty boom bap production, the 8-track EP is a strong showcase of variety. Diamond Mind has a “came from nothing” vibe, with Gates sharing his perspectives in an honest way. He’s genuinely invested in his craft and this charm helps capture independent Hip-Hop’s most favorable qualities in one release.

Lyrically, Gates is a wise writer, with smart storytelling and subtle philosophies from his direct experiences etched into each track. His laid back demeanor isn’t one to be interpreted as lazy or passive; as an MC, he tells it like it is, with a confident lean in his posture and a watchful eye on his future. Focusing on the power of thought, Pearl Gates expresses his frustration with economic and contemporary hardships, as well as detailing the ways in which he feels like both an outsider and a leader.

With a careful selection of beats that best display the artist’s lyrical talent, the EP features production from Khrysis of Justus League, Kic Beats, iRobot Scott (for Matrax Productions), Sirplus, Jay Notez and M. Stacks. Featured artists include Masta Ace, Wordsworth, Boldy James and Stricklin. Given the large amount of features, Gates’s role isn’t overshadowed but strengthened.

Diamond Mind is a well-executed first project from a promising artist. Standout tracks include the title track, “Diamond Mind,” “The Ritual” featuring Masta Ace, “Countdown” and “Winning (Whip It).”
