On Tuesday, May 7th, 2024, the Brooklyn Museum became a hub of creativity and nostalgia as Champion unveiled the next chapter of their “Champion What Moves You” global brand campaign with the “No Permission” Collection. This one-day-only exhibit celebrated Champion’s influential role in streetwear fashion and its commitment to fostering the next generation of creators.

Champion, known for its iconic blanks used by early designs from Supreme, Pyrex Vision by Virgil Abloh, Kith, BAPE, and Stussy, honored this rich history by showcasing these brands’ original works. These brands famously used Champion’s garments without seeking permission, contributing to the brand’s legendary status in the streetwear world.

The exhibit did not only look back but also forward, featuring designs by emerging creators who embody the no-permission ethos. This collection inspired attendees to pursue their creative visions without constraints, aligning with Champion’s legacy of unbridled creativity.

Guests at the event were treated to an interactive experience. They received Champion blanks and had the chance to customize their own designs on-site, embracing the spirit of DIY fashion that Champion has long supported. This hands-on activity allowed attendees to connect with the brand’s history while contributing to its future.

In addition to the interactive elements, the exhibit’s pieces will be available in limited quantities through social media-driven giveaways later this month, offering fans a chance to own a piece of streetwear history.

In the whirlwind of Hollywood, actress Stacey Dash has navigated her share of ups and downs. It’s a stark contrast from the controversy that surrounded Dash eight years ago when, as a vocal far-right conservative, she famously joined comedian Chris Rock in a trolling stunt targeting Black people at the Academy Awards. Yet, as the dust settled on those tumultuous times, it seems Dash was battling her own demons behind closed doors.

In a candid TikTok video, Dash addressed concerns raised by social media users about her well-being, particularly speculation regarding drug use. Dispelling the rumors, she proudly declared, “I am 7 years and 9 months clean. Yayy!” Her declaration wasn’t just a proclamation of personal triumph; it marked the beginning of her journey to share her experiences with addiction and recovery openly.

Acknowledging the support and concern of her fans, Dash expressed her intention to shed light on her journey, emphasizing the transformative impact on her “mind, body, and spirit.” “I hope by doing this, I help somebody else. Cause I know the struggle’s real,” she added, a testament to her newfound commitment to advocacy and support.

Dash’s path to sobriety hasn’t been easy. She revealed her history with drug use during a 2016 interview, tracing it back to her upbringing in a household where both parents were drug users. Her mother’s initiation into cocaine use at just 16 years old marked the beginning of a long and arduous battle with addiction. It wasn’t until the birth of her son, Austin Williams, in 1991, that Dash found the resolve to confront her demons and commit to sobriety.

However, the road to recovery has been fraught with challenges. In 2021, Dash candidly admitted to relapsing after being prescribed Vicodin by a doctor, sometimes consuming up to 20 pills a day. Her honesty about her struggles resonated with many, creating a platform for open dialogue about addiction and mental health.

While Dash’s journey to sobriety is deeply personal, her decision to share it with the world reflects a newfound sense of purpose and resilience.

CB: What made you go that route to put hip-hop staples and include them within your line?

SS: Well, first of all, when I designed, so when me and Mary partnered, she’s one of my best friends, just like Misa, and we partnered up, we have a partnership and we have a business called Sister Love. And because Mary grew up in Yonkers, I grew up in Queens, we both grew up in the hip-hop era. And it was all about those big statement pieces. So I was like, we need to bring back all of the door knockers from back in the days. I don’t know how many of them we’ve launched now. I don’t know, maybe 20 pair, but we keep finding them. And then we just modernize them. They’re like sterling silver, 18 karat gold, but they’re high polished. You know, like back in the day, they were more kind of like a dull. It was like a dull gold.

CB: I love the quality too.

SS: And because those earrings just never went out of style. I always had a pair of bamboo earrings, always had a pair of triangle earrings. And you know, when we just decided to do it, we were both two girls from New York that grew up in the hip-hop era. But women can work together. So Mary and I have our partnership. Misa and I, we have our collaboration. Our first drop is Denim and Diamonds. That’s the one that we have named Denim and Diamonds. And then these are Simone.

CB: These are my favorite!

SS: These are Simone.. And the triangle ones that Misa has on, those are the Misas. “Misa and I have been friends for over 20 years and we both love all things fashion. While Beyoncé has been known to change up her hairstyle almost as much as she changes costumes over the years, she’s letting everyone know that her real hair is every bit as amazing as her singing talents.

On Sunday, Bey took to IG to show her full wash, dry, and style routine as part of a promotion for her haircare line, Cécred. The video begins with her stylist brushing out her hair and then washing and conditioning it with a variety of products from her line and then combing through with a detangling comb before drying, flat-ironing, and styling it. Throughout the video, she narrates some aspects of her routine (she uses medium heat rather than high heat) while also dispelling the myth that women who wear wigs and extensions don’t have healthy hair- addressing some of the criticism she has received over the years.

As Black History Month draws to a close, we turn our attention to a new fashion line making waves in the USA: Fort Mose 1738. Designed for US audiences by Maurice Gattis, a professor of social work at Virginia Commonwealth University and a prominent LGBQT advocate, Fort Mose 1738 aims to “shine a light” on the remarkable artistry discovered during Maurice’s visit to Ghana in 2021.

A Journey of Friendship and Partnership

Maurice’s journey to Ghana began as a vacation but evolved into a transformative experience. A chance encounter with a local taxi driver led to a friendship that blossomed into a business partnership. Inspired by the exquisite craftsmanship and vibrant textiles he encountered, Maurice embarked on a mission to bring Ghanaian artistry to a global audience.

“Fort Mose 1738 exists to help bring American attention to the work of these skilled artisans,” Maurice emphasizes. “Our pieces are produced in small batches to minimize waste, and we prioritize ethical sourcing practices to support local communities.”

The Newark Museum of Art (NMOA) is proud to announce the highly anticipated opening of its latest exhibition, “The Story of Newark Fashion: Atelier to Runway,” set to debut on February 22, 2024. This landmark exhibition, in development since 2021, marks the museum’s first large-scale showcase dedicated to contemporary American fashion, celebrating the rich cultural heritage and enduring legacy of Newark’s fashion scene.

Featuring the works of 11 fashion designers with strong connections to Newark, including iconic names such as Narciso Rodriguez, Stephen Burrows, and Project Runway finalist Shavi Lewis, the exhibition pays homage to the city’s deep roots in the garment and jewelry industries. Through a curated selection of designs, archival footage, and oral histories, “The Story of Newark Fashion” highlights the city’s pivotal role in shaping the global fashion landscape.

At the heart of the exhibition lies a simulated runway display, showcasing the groundbreaking designs of Newark-born Stephen Burrows. Renowned as one of the defining designers of disco-era fashion, Burrows’ influence reverberates through the fashion world. Nine of his garments, symbolically “walking” the runway in Paris, pay homage to his historic presentation at the Battle of Versailles in 1973, a watershed moment in fashion history.

In addition to Burrows’ contributions, the exhibition explores Newark’s rich history as a hub for creativity and innovation in the world of contemporary fashion for over 75 years. From the ateliers of trailblazing designers Wesley Tann and Emily Miles in the 1950s and 1960s to the contemporary designers shaping the industry today, Newark’s fashion legacy is celebrated and contextualized within the global fashion narrative.

Guest-curated by Kristen J. Owens, a historian of Black fashion, with Tracey “Africa” Norman serving as a curatorial advisor, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at Newark’s fashion evolution. Norman, an international star of the runway and Newark native, lends her expertise and personal insight to the project, further highlighting the city’s enduring influence on fashion.

“It’s our great pleasure to bring together 46 stunning looks by two generations of Newark’s own fashion pioneers,” says Catherine Evans, Deputy Director, Collections & Curatorial Strategies, The Newark Museum of Art. “The heart of the exhibition installation will be a simulated runway with Stephen Burrows’ garments ‘walking’ the runway, a reference to his extraordinary role at The Battle of Versailles in 1973. Basketball season is in full swing and the Air Jordan brand is paying homage to WNBA players with their most recent drop, “First Class,” a WNBA player-exclusive colorway with gold hardware accents.

The shoe’s base tonal palette is a soft mint green shade with darker green accents on the support wings, pull tab, and parts of the outsoles and seafoam mesh design quarters panels. In addition to the unique color scheme, the shoe also features a gold Jumpman logo holding a diamond in place of the basketball as well as gold accented hardware on the lace tags, tips, and hangtag. The hashtag is designed to mimic a luggage flight tag, a nod to the shoe’s “First Class” namesake.

Pictures of the shoe were shared by Kelsey Amy, Jordan brand senior designer on her Instagram, with the caption “Made exclusively for our WNBA athletes who continue to pave the way for change both in their sport and in the world around them. Continuously setting the benchmark for women in sports and leaving a lasting legacy for the future generations to come.”

Teyana Taylor is speaking out amidst recent reports of filing for divorce from Iman Shumpert. Hitting Instagram, Taylor stated she didn’t provide any statements to media outlets and revealed that it came from leaked court documents.

“It is very heartbreaking that someone would take out the time to make such a private matter public for the world to see,” Taylor wrote. “However, protecting my family is one thing I’ve ALWAYS done & for my children I will continue to do so.”

In a report report from TMZ, Taylor states the journey to dissolve their marriage began almost a year ago, citing the NBA champion is a “jealous narcissist” throughout their seven years of marriage.

The divorce was filed in January, announcing a separation this past September. Taylor states Shumpert is jealous of her fame and career in regards to feelings about his shortcomings. Shumpert allegedly was annoyed when photographers wanted solo images of Taylor and didn’t enjoy family events.

Taylor is stated to have wanted to keep the matter private, but recent court documents pushed items to the forefront. Shumpert then sent negative and manipulative messages while also picking fights. Taylor stated that Iman was “treating her cruelly and displaying extreme narcissistic behavior throughout the majority of their marriage.”

Adding the ball player “became more and more angry” about her status and shut down any possibility of a harmonious and peaceful marriage. Taylor also cites mental and emotional abuse, leading to the start of the 2022 divorce, which she didn’t go through by request of Iman.

Taylor executed the divorce in 2023 due to being “unable to handle the emotional rollercoaster.”

Rumors were flying months back about the marriage of Teyan Taylor and Iman Shumpert. Allegations of infidelity hit the internet when a woman posted a video wearing Iman’s chain. Teyana broke her silence about their marriage and announced on her Instagram page that they were separated.

Now the grammy-nominated Barb is admitting that the baby put a temporary strain on her marriage in 2020 when the couple decided to raise their baby without the help from nanny’s. Nicki also reveals that she doesn’t allow her son to eat sweets or drink juice.

Nicki Minaj admitted her and Kenneth Petty’s relationship has not always been at its best.

In a recent interview, the “Super Bass” singer revealed that she and her hubby went through a rough patch in 2020 after the birth of their son, whom Minaj calls “Papa Bear.”

During the sit down, the star revealed she and Petty raised their infant son without any help other than a few visits from a grandparent.

“I’m not going to lie, things got testy between us,” she said in the interview, published Thursday, November 9. “Because of our history, I think we knew we’d get past it. But there’s no such thing as confidence in parenthood.”

She continued: “I kind of wish that someone had told me — although I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to understand it — that there’s a level of anxiety, and you think it’s going to go away, but in fact it gets scarier.”

“So often you think: I don’t know how to do this!” she confessed.

Minaj also talked about her parenting choices for Papa Bear, including her decision to not allow him to eat sweets or drink juice.

“Illnesses like diabetes run in our community,” she explained. “I’m not in favor of body positivity if it means unhealthy bodies. That’s bull. It’s not believable, so let’s stop pretending.”

“No one told me that this was a narcotic and this was addictive. Luckily, I was able to ground myself. Once an addict, always an addict. I feel like if you’ve ever experienced addiction to anything, which I have, you always have to think twice and three times about the choices that you make.”

She spoke on how legends before her like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Prince struggled with the pressures of fame and drug misuse.

“These are some of the greatest of all time. And one day, they decided, ‘You know what? I’d rather self-medicate and be in my own world. Should you keep on doing interviews and pouring out your heart so people can laugh? No.”

Minaj also reveals the impact of her father’s usage of crack cocaine during her childhood.

“Now I realize those people weren’t making those choices because they wanted to hurt their family. Addiction took over their bodies and their lives. They were victims, too,” she stated.

Pink Friday 2 is set to drop on Nicki’s birthday, Dec. 8.

Experts at Lilac St. analyzed various cities to identify the most fashionable city of 2023 evaluating key metrics, such as the number of annual fashion shows, fashion brands, schools and city-specific fashion hashtags on Instagram. A score was assigned to each city for every factor and summed up to determine the final ranking. The city with the highest total score was ranked as the most fashionable city of 2023.

A new study has revealed New York as the most fashionable city of 2023.

New York is ranked as the most fashionable city of 2023, with the highest number of fashion shows and fashion brands. Dubai leads in the amount of fashion-focused Instagram hashtags, with a total of 6 million. Milan takes the lead in fashion education with 22 fashion schools. 

New York holds more than 680 fashion events every year, including New York fashion week, which is also one of the most attended fashion events in the world.

London takes the 2nd spot in the ranking as the most fashionable city of  2023. It secures its top position with 500 annual fashion shows and 4.3 million fashion related hashtags such as #LondonFashionWeek and #Londonfashion.

Paris holds the 3rd place due to the amount of fashion brands worldwide, including “Chanel”, “Louis Vuitton” and many more. Moreover, the hashtag #ParisFashionWeek was used over 3 million times, which is 75% of overall hashtags for fashion in Paris.

Milan, ranking at the 4th spot, stands out with the highest number of fashion institutions and schools including 22 fashion schools that significantly contribute to its ranking. Milan also secures its position with hashtags like #Milanfashion and #MilanFashionWeek on Instagram.

Dubai ranks 5th, having the highest number of fashion-related Instagram hashtags. Hashtag #Dubaifashion single handedly was used more than 5 million times when the overall hashtag count is 6 million.

Sydney places as the 6th most fashionable city of 2023. It owes its position to a range of fashion institutions, including the University of Sydney, which takes a spot  in the World University Rankings 2023.

Seoul stands at the 7th position of the most fashionable cities of the year. The number of fashion schools along with fashion brands significantly contributed to its ranking. Even though Seouls fashion hashtags are way lower than the previous cities’, it is still impressive with 800k hashtag engagements on Instagram.

Rome claims the 8th spot due to the number of fashion schools including one of the most famous Roman universities – Higher Institute for Artistic Industries, where famous designer Stefano Gabbana studied.

Los Angeles is the 9th most fashionable city and claims the rank with the 3rd highest number of fashion shows annually, from which the most attended one is Los Angeles Fashion week.

Tokyo rounds out the top ten with the number of fashion schools and brands. There are also 760k mentions on Instagram for the hashtags #Tokyofashion and #TokyoFashionWeek contributing to its ranking.

The two entities released a statement to Rolling Stone:

“Megan Thee Stallion and 1501 Certified Entertainment are pleased to announce that they have mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences. As part of the arrangement, both parties have agreed to amicably part ways. Both Megan and 1501 are pleased to put this matter behind them and move forward with the next chapter of their respective businesses. All of us at 1501 wish Megan the very best in her life and career.”

There were no details of the settlement available. 1501 Certified Entertainment founder Carl Crawford added, “All of us at 1501 wish Megan the very best in her life and career.”

Well these celebrities have taken their talents to OnyFans and the numbers may shock you. Iggy Azalea is the top earning A-list celebrity on OnlyFans, with a total earnings of $48 million. The former Disney star Bella Thorne earned $1M in just 24 hours after joining OnlyFans. And Tyga, ranked sixth, deactivated his $20M worth of account to start his own platform, Myystar.

The experts at LELO did some digging to find out which big-name stars are making money on OnlyFans. Factors that have been looked into are 1) How much each celebrity has earned, 2) the monthly fees they charge, and 3) the frequency of online searches.

Iggy Azalea is leading the list of top A-list celebrity earners on OnlyFans, with a total earning of $48M. She charges a $25 monthly subscription fee for access to her content. In addition to her revenue, her account receives much attention, with 127K worldwide searches.

Cardi B is close behind in second, with $45M in total earnings. The hip-hop artist offers her content for a monthly subscription fee of $4.99. Cardi B OnlyFans account is still one of the most sought-after on the platform, with 28K worldwide searches.

Blac Chyna takes the third spot with total earnings of $35M. She charged $19.99 monthly for her subscription, which included special X-rated content and “Foot-Freek Mondays.” Her account also boasted 28K worldwide searches; however, she recently deactivated it.

Bella Thorne is in fourth place, with a total earnings of $32M. The former Disney star offers a free subscription plan. She earned $1M within just 24 hours of joining OnlyFans. This is the most money any OnlyFans Creator has ever made in 24 hours.

Amber Rose is rounding out the top five, with total earnings of $26M. The celebrity teased fans with booty-centric Instagram clips, promising they would “see EVERYTHING” for a $5 monthly subscription fee.

Tyga stands at the sixth position with a total earning of $20M and a monthly subscription fee of $20. The hip-hop artist set up his OnlyFans account after one of his private photos was leaked and went viral, but eventually deleted it to launch Myystar.

In the seventh spot is Pia Mia, who earned $18M. Offering a free subscription, the Los Angeles-based singer often posts her never-seen-before pictures, videos, and some private content on OnlyFans.

Chris Brown is ranked eighth with $15M in total earnings. The celebrity announced he would charge $20 monthly for subscription-only content but ultimately deleted his account.

Austin Mahone is ninth with $5M in earnings on OnlyFans, also offering a free subscription. The star has a VIP program that includes free conversations, future postings, custom content requests, and Zoom calls to people who tip him $100.

Completing the top 10 are DJ Khaled and Fat Joe. While they offer a free subscription, their earnings are close to 4M. The stars aim to create “a community that’s full of positivity,” willing to know their actual fans closely.

New York extended the series at least one more game, 87-73. On top of keeping their title hopes alive, the Liberty secured their first Finals victory since 1999. Jonquel Jones and Breanna Stewart led the way with 27 and 20 points respectively.Fans say that the turn came at half when New York’s own Lil Kim turned up the crowd.

Everyone has been talking about real estate and generational wealth, but Cardi has shared the downsides of being a landlord. Over the weekend rapper Cardi B explained to fans why she prefers Birkin Bags over real estate as a gift. She also reveals that one of her tenants hasn’t paid rent in 9 months. 

Later she posts a follow-up video while lying in her bed sporting an iced-out diamond chain. The Bronx rapper insists she still made money off the investment, so she isn’t bothered. Cardi B says she doesn’t care that her tenants haven’t paid up because her properties are now worth way more than what she initially paid. With her husband Offset in the background, she said they are too busy to chase tenants in court and they are doing so much they don’t have the time, ‘We just let it sit there.’

Last year an ongoing custody battle found the mother of Nipsey Hussle’s daughter filing to regain custody of her child and control of her estate. The estate claimed she admitted to issues with substance abuse and alcohol back in 2019. The Probate Investigator recommended that Tanisha not be appointed guardian due to alleged issues with alcohol, being unemployed at the time and having no stable housing. Now Nipsey’s family has finally been awarded control of the estate.

Radar Online reports:

Nipsey Hussle’s mother, brother, and sister scored a massive victory in court against his ex-girlfriend Tanisha Foster — with a judge ruling the family will control the estate for the late rapper’s daughter.

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, a hearing was held this week in the never-ending war between Nipsey’s family and Tanisha over 14-year-old Emani.

The judge ruled that Nipsey’s mom Angelique, his brother Sam, and sister Samantha will be co-guardians over Emani’s finances, including her $2 million+ inheritance.

Nipsey was murdered on March 31, 2019. He left behind Emani, and a son named Kross, who he had with his girlfriend Lauren London. The only beneficiaries of the musician’s estate were his two children.

Nipsey’s brother Sam was selected to manage the rapper’s estate which was valued at $4 million. Sam believes the estate will bring in another $4.7 million annually.

Following his death, Nipsey’s mom Angelique Smith, his brother Sam, and sister Samantha were appointed physical custody of Emani. The family claimed Tanisha was not fit to take care of the child.

In August 2021, Nipsey’s family filed a petition to be appointed guardians of Emani’s estate, which would allow them to control her inheritance and make investments with her money.

In their petition, the family argued, “Appointing Petitioners as the Guardians of Emani’s Estate will allow Petitioners to invest Emani’s share of the expected inheritance from her father’s estate.”

“Petitioners will manage Emani’s assets prudently and in Emani’s best interests until she reaches 18 years old,” the filing read.

Tanisha objected to the petition. She demanded the court deny the request and allow her to take over control of Emani’s estate – and regain custody.

In her filing, Tanisha claimed at the time of his death, Nipsey and her were on good terms. She said they shared custody, but Nispey took care of their bills because of his “far superior economic powers.”

Tanisha said Nipsey never tried to take legal custody of Emani from her during his lifetime. She claimed the rapper had been paying for her apartment before his death — but his family cut her off after his murder.

Nipsey’s ex admitted she entered into an agreement to allow the musician’s family to have custody of Emani in 2019. However, she said her “motivation for doing so was” due to her “financial limitations” at the time.

Yung Joc gave his two cents on new rap star Sexyy Red during an interview with VladTV. The Atlanta rapper warned the St. Louis native about the potential pitfalls of sudden fame and ‘hoe spirits.’

“She’s not trying to pretend to be something she’s not,” Joc stated. “I think she’s comfortable in her truth. I think she has to be careful with being exploited… I’m seeing the way she presents herself, and it’s not that she doesn’t know better. It’s what she’s comfortable with doing. I’m not knocking Sexyy Red.”

Joc continued, “I don’t want nobody to think I’m knocking her. I just think she should be a little more sensible when it comes to the censorship because these babies be listening to this s**t. You know what I’m saying? Gotta check those h** spirits.”

He also shared that Red is part of a new generation of female artists who are pushing the envelope in ways that might not be entirely beneficial.

“Now, these women are letting it be known: ‘I’ll do you and your brother, that’s my lick back,’” Joc added. “There are a lot of women doing that, too, but Sexyy Red has a different approach. She has a downright ‘I’m in the hood, I’m out the hood’ approach. ‘I’m promoting classic ratchet h** activity.’ And that’s just what it is.”

After having 4 children with her past public relationships, Kimora Lee Simmons has revealed she has been left to raise her children alone. Kimora has two children with Russell Simmons, one child with actor Dijmon Hounsou, one child with her ex husband Tim Leissner and an adopted son. 

Kimora says not one of her children’s fathers are in their lives.

“I have beautiful children, but our necessity for [men] in our life is very minimal,” she continues. “It’s not all that it’s cracked up to be. It’s not giving what it was supposed to have gave!”

Kimora was only 23 a ‘child bride’ when she married Russell (“I joke but it’s not funny,” she says), and they divorced when their children were still young. She was with actor Djimon Hounsou for five years in her 30s and, from 2014 until last year, she was married to former Goldman Sachs investment banker Tim Leissner, who is currently a key witness in a $4 billion fraud case. (In 2021, Russell sued Kimora and Leissner, accusing them of stealing his stocks from the energy drink company Celsius to cover Leissner’s bail. Last year, it was reported a judge ordered Russell to pay Kimora $100,000 in legal fees. Meanwhile, it was revealed that Leissner had faked divorce papers, and was still married to his ex when he wed Kimora.) “I’m so bruised by it all,” she says. “I feel like I’ve run into con artists every step of the way.”

She says that she has not spoken to Russell in a few years, and she does not co-parent with any of her children’s fathers. When she looks back on her relationships, she can see how she might seem like the common denominator. “It looks like, ‘Well, it’s all you, all fingers point to you, lady. You’re the one.’ I guess it is me, but I think it has more to do with my personality or my stance in society. Something about powerful men and how they really appear to be powerful and big and this and that. But they’re nursing an ego inside of there. Not just these men, any men. Men, powerful men, famous men, rich men, business rich men, whatever you want to call it. There’s a thing there and I don’t know what it is, but I don’t really have a great relationship with any of them and they’ve left me to it to just kind of do things on my own. I do everything on my own. Like I say, I’m a single mom.”

The Bronx rapper Cardi B celebrated her 31st birthday Wednesday after sharing the sea full of roses her husband gave her on her birthday. That evening a video of Cardi in a skin-tight red dress was captured of her smoking in a cigarette, Now Cardi is responding to critics and explaining why she doesn’t smoke marijuana.
