Finally some guard rails with Instagram to protect kids. The massive social media platform is rolling out new separate accounts specifically for users under 18, aiming to make the platform safer for young people amid increasing concerns over social media’s impact on mental health.

About time.

Get this, starting Tuesday in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, new users under 18 will be automatically placed into these more restrictive accounts, and existing teen accounts will be transitioned over the next 60 days. Similar changes will be implemented for teens in the European Union later this year.

Meta is trying to get ahead of kids circumventing the soon to come protections. The company acknowledges the possibility of teenagers lying about their age and has stated it will require more frequent age verification. The company is also developing technology to identify accounts where teens might be pretending to be adults, automatically placing them into restricted teen accounts. These accounts will be private by default, and direct messages will be limited to people teens already follow. Additionally, “sensitive content” will be restricted, and teens will receive notifications if they spend more than 60 minutes on the platform. A “sleep mode” feature will disable notifications and send auto-replies between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.

What’s more, teens aged 16 and 17 can opt out of some of these restrictions, while users under 16 will need parental permission to do so. Naomi Gleit, Meta’s head of product, stated, “The three concerns we’re hearing from parents are that their teens are seeing content that they don’t want to see or that they’re getting contacted by people they don’t want to be contacted by or that they’re spending too much on the app. So teen accounts are really focused on addressing those three concerns.”

Timing wise, this move comes as Meta faces lawsuits from multiple U.S. states, alleging that the company has contributed to the youth mental health crisis by creating features that are addictive to children. New York Attorney General Letitia James called Meta’s actions “an important first step,” but emphasized that more needs to be done to protect children from social media harm. While Meta has introduced features like time-limit notifications in the past, these have been criticized for not being strict enough, as teens can easily bypass them without parental supervision.

Basically, with the new teen accounts, Meta provides parents more tools to oversee their children’s activity on Instagram. If parental supervision is enabled, parents can limit their teens’ screen time and see who is messaging their child, offering them a chance to engage in conversations about online safety. Gleit added, “Parents will be able to see, via the family center, who is messaging their teen and hopefully have a conversation with their teen.”

This is a good thing no matter how you slice it.

If you love TikTok and all that comes with it, have fun now because it might not last too much longer. The U.S. government clashed with the popular platform’s lawyers in federal court over a law that could ban the app by mid-January. TikTok is arguing the measure is unconstitutional and the Justice Department claiming it is necessary to eliminate a national security risk.

The legal battle took place before a panel of three judges at a federal appeals court in Washington.

Andrew Pincus, representing TikTok, argued, “The law before this court is unprecedented and its effect would be staggering,” suggesting that it would impose speech limitations based on hypothetical future risks. Additionally, an attorney for content creators who joined the challenge compared the law to banning Americans from publishing on foreign-owned media outlets.

Get this, the law was signed by President Joe Biden in April, comes after years of concern in Washington about TikTok’s ties to China. The U.S. government make a serious claim that TikTok collects sensitive user data that could be accessed by the Chinese government and that the app’s proprietary algorithm could be manipulated to shape content.

What’s more, Daniel Tenny, an attorney for the Justice Department, argued, “The problem is that same data is extremely valuable to a foreign adversary trying to compromise the security of the United States.”

Pincus contended that Congress should have opted for transparency regarding potential propaganda rather than forcing a divestiture or ban.

Interestingly, the judges also pressed the Justice Department on First Amendment concerns. Judge Sri Srinivasan noted that government efforts to curb content manipulation raise alarms regarding free speech. Tenny responded that the law does not directly target TikTok users or creators, suggesting any impact on them would be indirect.

Anyway, TikTok maintains that it does not share U.S. user data with the Chinese government and that divestment is not a feasible option. The company argues that even if divestment were possible, TikTok would lose the technology that powers the app, reducing it to “a shell of its former self.”

TikTok here or gone, it’s part of a bigger construct with the impact of social media in our lives. And that is here to stay.

Blame inflation. Nah, we’re joking; inflation is really low right now. But anyway, Sony officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, a powerful mid-generation upgrade with significant improvements over the current PS5. According to PlayStation system architect Mark Cerny, the PS5 Pro features a GPU with “67% more Compute Units” and “28% faster memory,” bringing it close to “doubling the power of the PS5” and making it the “most powerful console” Sony has ever released. However, this power comes with a hefty price tag of $700—excluding a disc drive and vertical stand, which are sold separately.

Seven Hundred cash. Sheesh.

Get this: The price has sparked widespread frustration among fans, with many citing concerns over the lack of standout titles, diminishing returns on technology, and the current state of the economy.

Some argue that, when adjusted for inflation, the price isn’t unusually high for a gaming console.

Guessing those people don’t eat ramen regularly.

Yet, this comparison doesn’t account for rising living costs and stagnant wages. As the article notes, “When housing alone costs double and what we’re earning is 75% less valuable, what we do with our money becomes even more precious.”

Moreover, while some gamers may feel the price is justified, others are questioning whether the PS5 Pro is worth the investment. Those interested can preorder the console ahead of its November 7 release.

Either way, the sticker price is not for the faint of heart.

Increasingly, AI has created tension between corporations seeking to streamline product development and trim costs and creatives seeking protections against having their contributions entirely replaced.  In July, this came to a head in the video game industry, where members of the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) who perform in video games went on strike for protection against AI encroachment.  Against this background, Christoph Hartmann, CEO of Amazon Games, caused significant controversy last week when he stated that “[in] games, we don’t really have acting” and advocated adding AI to game development. 

In an interview with IGN, a popular video game news source, Hartmann stated that he hoped that AI could lessen the lengthy development times of games because it currently takes “five years per game,” and commented further that “hopefully AI will help us to streamline processes so hand-done work will go fast.  Ideally we can get it down to three years.”  When asked about the SAG-AFTRA strike, Hartmann responded that “especially for games, we don’t really have acting . . . [t]he majority of the team sits in programming and that’s not going to go away because that’s all about innovation.”  He received heavy criticism over these comments, with people pointing to games like Baldur’s Gate 3, The Last of Us, and Cyberpunk 2077, which are extremely popular games largely because the character acting elevates them into a unique and special experience. 

In response to this criticism, an Amazon spokesperson addressed the “confusion” caused by Hartmann’s comments and explained that they were intended to reference internal development teams, and that Amazon Games typically does not have actors on staff.  Amazon stated, “[a]s with any tool, we believe generative AI needs to be used responsibly and we’re carefully exploring how we can use it to help solve the technical challenges development teams face.”   Reading Hartmann’s remarks in context, these “explorations” appear to include the localization of game dialogue in different countries.  Hartmann remarked that “what could be super helpful is localization. We’re currently localizing our game into a certain set of languages. Does it commercially make sense to have it in a language, yes or no? Having AI actually will help us.”  It should be noted that using AI to directly localize voice acting by using an AI copy of an actor’s voice to generate new dialogue in a new language would likely be a violation of the AI protections that SAG-AFTRA members are currently seeking, if the actor has not granted approval or been compensated. 

Sarah Elmaleh, the SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement negotiating committee chair, stated in response to Hartmann’s remarks, stating that  “[w]hether game design, localization, programming, acting, anything – these highly specialized and professionalized workers are the ones who understand whether and how AI might be assistive or detrimental in their work. And workers should have the right and the means to advocate for the proper use of this tool.”

As game developers explore new ways to use generative AI, the livelihood of artists, actors, and other creatives remains at risk until the parties can have a productive dialogue.  Negotiation of the SAG-AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement provides a framework to do this. However, Hartmann’s recent remarks and the reaction to them suggest that this dialogue is still a work in progress.

Cabin space feels reasonably good, though tall passengers may graze their shoulders on door pads. Cleverly designed handles, controls, and wing-like AC vents complement the dashboard. A smart 7-inch touchscreen enables smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The higher-end LX variant adds premium amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, roof-mounted speakers, and 18-inch alloy wheels. At an affordable price, the Thar offers a good blend of daily comfort, off-road readiness, and iconic style that’s hard to match.

Powerful and Refined Powertrain Options

The new Thar introduces two BS6 engine choices instead of the old 2.5L diesel. There’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol that churns out 152 bhp power and 300 Nm torque paired with a 6-speed automatic. The manual petrol variant also matches those figures. This new 1997cc petrol mill is a revelation with its smooth performance, whether lazy cruising or energetic sprints.

For the diesel fans, Mahindra has equipped a new 2184cc unit tuned to produce 132bhp and the same 300 Nm torque output.

Both engines employ a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Their precise shifter actions complement the motor’s flexibility. Buyers can also opt for a 6-speed automatic transmission for effortless urban commutes. The new Thar’s powertrains strike an impressive balance between drivability and refinement that’s a generation ahead of its predecessor.

Body Measurements

Even with its old-school design, the new Thar has grown considerably over earlier generations. It now measures 3985mm long, 1820mm wide and stands 1855mm tall. The wheelbase has also increased to 2450mm.

A longer, wider and taller body translates into more interior space. There’s plenty of headroom, even for tall passengers wearing headgear. The extra width means three adults can sit more comfortably abreast on the front bench. The rear knee room has improved, allowing tall occupants to stretch out.

A longer wheelbase enhances ride quality and high-speed manners. Despite its enlarged dimensions, the Thar’s smartly sculpted body helps it retain the agile handling that’s crucial off-road. Its turning radius is under 5.4 meters, so tackling narrow lanes doesn’t require multiple-point turns!

Safety to Match Its Capability

Mahindra has equipped the new Thar with safety technologies that are on par with its formidable off-road competencies. Occupant protection starts with a sturdy internal roll cage augmented by 3-point seat belts and dual locks on the removable hardtop and softtop versions.

The SUV’s body structure further bolsters passive safety. It is designed to distribute collision impact forces evenly across the chassis, reducing injury risks in an accident.

All variants get dual front airbags and ABS as standard active safety features. Further electronic aids include ESP (Electronic Stability Program), rollover mitigation, and a cornering brake control system to maintain stability at high speeds.

There are also crucial off-road assists like hill descent control, hill starts assist, and hill hold functionality to prevent rolling back on inclines. Sensors actively monitor aspects like wading depth and tyre pressure, further minimising the chances of getting stranded in the wilderness.

The new Mahindra Thar strikes an impeccable balance between retaining its legendary off-road grit and evolving for modern comfort. It’s wild how the Trump campaign continually tries to get away with using unauthorized music from major artists. It’s almost like he or those in his campaign making those decisions to blast hit records at those rallies, just don’t care about well, permission.

Here’s a snapshot we pulled off ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) from user @sfpelosi, that shows the long, growing list of artists, bands and musicians who have warned Trump’s team and, filed a cease and desist or even gone as far as suing him. The user actually forgot the Isaac Hayes estate, that is suing Trump for millions over the unauthorized use of “Hold On, I’m Coming” but we ain’t forget.

Let’s get something straight. When a former president sells sneakers, bibles, t-shirts, commemorative coins and now NFTs, there’s something weird going on.

Let’s get to the NFT thing. President Donald Trump has unveiled a new set of digital trading cards, part of his ongoing effort to engage with cryptocurrency enthusiasts as he eyes the upcoming election.

The “Series 4: The America First Collection” of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) was launched on Tuesday, each card priced at $99.

$99 bucks. For a Trump NFT. During the biggest presidential election season of modern times. Grifting his supporters. Doesn’t this seem weird?

Get this, the latest collection features Trump in various poses, including one as a “sneakerhead” showcasing his line of gold shoes, another depicting him in a superhero suit labeled “SuperTrump,” and several others under the title “crypto president,” a nickname he gave himself at a tech fundraiser earlier this year.

But check this out, it gets better. Trump’s NFTs come with various perks for buyers who meet certain spending thresholds, including autographed merchandise, pieces of his debate suit, and even dinner with the former president. High-end purchasers who spend $24,750, exclusively in cryptocurrency, are promised tickets to a Trump gala in Florida and cocktails with the former president.

The new collection follows a series of previous NFT drops that Trump claims have generated over $4 million per release, although the exact portion of that revenue going to Trump remains undisclosed. Wasn’t Tory Lanez doing this?

It appears Trump’s latest NFT launch is part of a broader strategy to appeal to the crypto community, despite his previous criticism of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, which he once described as a “scam against the dollar.”

If you recall, while in office, Trump was outspoken against cryptocurrency, calling it “highly volatile and based on thin air.” However, his stance has since softened, and he has made several moves to align himself with the crypto industry, including meeting with Bitcoin miners and speaking at major cryptocurrency events.

Trump’s embrace of the crypto world is seen as a bid to attract new supporters as he prepares for a tight election race against Vice President Kamala Harris. His running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, who’s getting more attention these days for his trips to donut shops and his haircut, if you want to call it that, is also a pro-crypto candidate, further solidifying their ticket’s appeal to the tech-savvy electorate.

Donald Trump really will say anything. The former “President” recently took to his Truth Social account—you know, the knock-off Twitter that is now called “X”—all funny if you ask us—to some weird AF AI-generated images that, get this, falsely claim that Taylor Swift has endorsed him for president. Like, why, dude?

It went down on social media Sunday night when he posted several screenshots from X depicting women in “Swifties for Trump” shirts. Listen, we don’t doubt there are a great many Swifties who are pro-Trump, but last we checked, Taylor Swift herself is not, but FTR, she has yet to endorse anyone. 

Anyway, many of the images appear to be manipulated, including one screenshot of a satirical article claiming Swifties turned to Trump after her shows in Vienna were canceled due to a thwarted terrorist plot. Another altered image shows Swift photoshopped as Uncle Sam with the message: 

“Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”

Trump captioned the post with a simple, “I accept!”

Obviously this is a load of bull you know what.

Again, Taylor Swift has not endorsed any candidate for the 2024 presidential election. 

The pop diva did endorse Joe Biden in 2020 and sharply criticized Trump that year for his response to the George Floyd protests. Swift tweeted, “After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November.”

As the Democratic National Convention kicks off in Chicago, Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to accept the party’s nomination. Plenty of celebs will be on the stage, but the DNC said they won’t overdo it with big names this time around to remain more relatable.

One thing is for sure: Donald lied about Taylor. Period.

Actors Strike To Stop AI Takeover in Video Games

With the growth of AI in nearly every industry, workers have begun taking up arms to protect their jobs from the encroachment of AI replacements.   In 2023, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the Writers of Guild of America (WGA) both went on strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMTP) after strikes that were some of the longest held in the film and TV industry, SAG-AFTRA and the WGA were able to obtain protections for their members against use of AI without consent or compensation. 

This dispute has arisen between video game developers and the actors who provide the voices and images for their video game characters.  Effective July 26th, Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) members who perform in video games have gone on strike against video game companies signed onto the Interactive Media Agreement.  After a year and a half of negotiations over the Interactive Media Agreement, the video game companies still refuse to affirm outright that video game voice actors will be granted rights over how their voice, image, and work are used in training AI or creating AI-generated copies. 

These negotiations began in October 2022, and while agreement has been reached on most other important points, AI protections have split the two sides.  SAG-AFTRA asks that any game looking to employ SAG-AFTRA talent be signed onto the new Tiered-Budget Independent Interactive Media Agreement and the Interim Interactive Media Agreement or the Interim Interactive Localization Agreement.  These agreements aim to give SAG-AFTRA members the right of consent to use their faces, voices, and bodies by AI, which are rights that performers in film and TV already have.  Without these protections, video game companies could use AI to replicate performers without compensation or consent and would put them out of work.  These Agreements force video game companies to be upfront about their intentions and obtain the consent of actors they seek to replicate through AI. 

The strike was authorized on September 24th, 2023, with a 98.32% yes vote. Similar strikes in the industry have benefitted entertainers and creatives, so SAG-AFTRA feels confident that it can ultimately achieve the same results. That said, the strike will be an uphill battle, with SAG-AFTRA members striking against the video game industry titans, including divisions of Activision, EA, Insomniac, Warner Brothers, and Disney.

Elon Musk Surpasses Jeff Bezos As The Richest Man In The World Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

Elon Musk, owner of Tesla, SpaceX, and most relevantly, the social media platform X (Formerly Twitter), faced instant backlash after retweeting an altered Kamala Harris campaign ad without labeling it misleading. Full stop: how does the owner of one of the biggest social platforms participate in clear violations of the platform’s rules? Not to mention he has 191 million followers, the very thought of this level of misinformation is appalling. 

Get this: the retweeted video used segments from a recent Harris campaign video but replaced the audio with a voiceover impersonating Harris, making controversial statements about President Joe Biden’s senility and referring to herself as an incompetent candidate. Feels like a parody, but so what, it’s ridiculous that he would retweet this and shows he and others have no bottom in the lengths they will go to help elect Donald Trump. 

And onto the racism. The voiceover also described Harris as “the ultimate diversity hire” and accused her of “trying to sound Black.”

So you know the facts about the original campaign video, it featured Harris asking, “What kind of country do we want to live in?” before transitioning into Beyoncé’s song “Freedom.” The altered version omitted Beyoncé and included derogatory comments, which were widely condemned.

In response, Harris campaign spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg criticized Musk and former President Donald Trump, stating:

“We believe the American people want the real freedom, opportunity, and security Vice President Harris is offering; not the fake, manipulated lies of Elon Musk and Donald Trump.”

The insensitive and misleading video was initially posted by a YouTube account named “Mr Reagan,” labeled as a parody. However, it is unclear if the video utilized artificial intelligence. Alexios Mantzarlis, director of the Security, Trust, and Safety Initiative at Cornell Tech, suggested the altered content might be considered a deep fake, indicating a trend of using such deceptive tactics for trolling rather than legitimate misinformation.

Senator Amy Klobuchar accused Musk of violating X’s policy on misleading content, tweeting, “If @elonmusk and X let this go and don’t label it as altered AI content, they will not only be violating X’s own rules, they’ll be unleashing an entire election season of fake AI voice and image-altered content with no limits, regardless of party.”

X’s own hypocritical policy states that users may not share synthetic, manipulated, or out-of-context media intended to deceive or confuse people. Despite this, Musk’s retweet had garnered significant attention, with 119.9 million views as of Sunday afternoon.

Just tomfoolery by Elon Musk. Willing to bet if someone retweeted an altered Trump campaign Ad, he’d ban their account for life and hold a press conference stating misinformation will not be tolerated.

Siri has entered the rap beef chat.

On Wednesday, a whole rack of iOS users, that’s the operating system exclusive used by Apple btw, noticed an unexpected issue with Siri: when asked to play Drake’s album “Certified Lover Boy” on Spotify, Siri instead played Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” Huh? What? Who’s messing around in the world of big tech?

Multiple videos surfaced on social media, showcasing different people experiencing the same problem. When requesting Drake’s album, listeners would hear the chilling intro to Lamar’s song: “Psst, I see dead people.”

Unreal. This is a bad running joke.

Music journalist and author Sowmya Krishnamurthy highlighted the issue in a TikTok video. Similarly, HipHopDX’s Jeremy Hecht posted proof on Instagram, showing himself asking Siri to play “Certified Lover Boy” and getting the eerie response from Lamar’s track instead. Even KTLA 5 Morning News producer Christina Fawaz also reported the same glitch. So not a gimmick but a real issue. Intermittent at best.

Get this: the problem was reportedly resolved within a few hours, allowing Drake fans to listen to “Certified Lover Boy” without further interruptions.

Oh boy, no pun intended, this latest debacle added another weird layer to the ongoing rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, marked by subtle jabs and competitive tension over the years. What’s next? That’s all we want to know.

Another day, another salacious lawsuit against Kanye West. This one isn’t any less horrible than the last but certainly should be taken seriously, if not more, as it concerns minors named as plaintiffs. WTF.

As reported by the all-seeing eyes of TMZ, there were individuals hired by Ye’s company to create an app, platform, or whatever to promote new music. Still, according to the suit, they were placed in what they call a “racist environment with brutal work conditions.”

Get this: wife Bianca Censori, who is not named as a defendant, apparently sent explicit videos to those very hired staff members whose accounts included minors. Again, WTF. If true, it is disgusting, abhorrent, and should not be taken lightly. 

It gets deeper; the newest suit against Ye accuses the “Flashing Lights” artist and his former staff chief, Milo Yiannopoulos, of what they describe as “forced labor and inhuman degrading treatment.” Adding to their claim, both adult and minor employees were abusively made to work during abnormally long hours and, for their hard work, were not appropriately compensated with the pay they were promised.

Here’s where the specific racial allegations come into play. The group was allegedly openly degraded with racist insults along the lines of being called “new slaves” by Kanye West.

In the spring of 2024, Ye launched the YZYVSN streaming service app, aiming to compete with Tidal, Spotify, and Apple Music. According to the lawsuit, Ye wanted to avoid paying these companies to promote his new albums, “Vultures” and “Vultures 2.”

The documents reveal that the team primarily worked remotely, regularly communicating with their employers via Zoom, Slack, and Discord.

In April 2024, Milo offered to pay the team $120,000 upon the app’s completion, provided they did not complain about the working conditions.

However, the situation deteriorated when Kanye West stepped in, demanding that the group sign non-disclosure and volunteer agreements or face termination.

They allege the Caucasian bosses used language that attacked their gender, age, race, and national origin in writing – smh – on group chats, referring to them “slaves” and “new slaves.”

ICYMI, in late April, Ye announced he was going into the pornographic business. He asserted he was launching “Yeezy Porn” with his wife Bianca. They say she sent one worker in particular a file-sharing link that contained hardcore explicit scenes, based on the legal brief as reported by TMZ. Adding to the alleged depravity, the minors were not protected from seeing the content videos while they worked on the X-rated app. Again, Bianca is not a defendant. Should she be?

Then, on May 1, 2024, the team presented Ye with one of the two completed apps. TMZ is not sure which, based on the legal docs, but Ye and his then-underling Milo supposedly never paid them for their work. This was the last straw that led the group to file the lawsuit.

What the actual F? Sad just to report on this. When will it end?

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is not immune to crypto scams. The “In the Club” rapper turned media mogul, revealed he was the victim of a cryptocurrency scam that netted hackers millions of dollars. 

Jackson shared on Instagram that his Twitter account and website, Thisis50.com, were hacked to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency, resulting in a $3 million gain for the scammers within 30 minutes.

“My Twitter & Thisis 50.com was hacked,” 50 Cent wrote. “I have no association with this Crypto. Twitter worked quickly to lock my account back down. Whoever did this made $3,000,000 in 30 minutes.”

Get this: the hackers used a tactic known as a “pump-and-dump” scheme, where they flooded the accounts with promotional messages to inflate the cryptocurrency’s value artificially. Screenshots in 50 Cent’s post showed the $GUNIT crypto skyrocketing from under $1 million in market value.

“The whole thing about the KEKE universe,” he states, “is we’re all telling her story. So, who knows? There might be spin-offs, and her child might be tokenized in the future. Things like that. I used AI tools like Midjourney and various others to create Freaky KEKE, her image, her chart, and how everything would look. It took me about a week to solidify her story. Then, AI taught me how to tokenize and audit her contracts, making her rug-proof with renounced contracts and burned tokens. Not only is she historic for being the first AI-generated character on the blockchain, but she is also historical because she’s the first project to debut on two blockchains at the same time,” he continues. 

“She debuted on Ethereum and Solana on the same day at the same time — and she was successful. Most people don’t do that because they fear one will do better than the other. So they tend to do one, and that’s that. Interestingly enough, she has been neck and neck on both blockchains, and she’s the first project to do that.

Spotify has been issued a cease and desist order from the National Music Publishers Association (NMPA) for hosting lyrics, music videos, and podcast content without proper licensing.

According to Billboard, the NMPA demands the removal “or Spotify will face copyright liability for continued use of these works.”

Earlier this month, Spotify was noted to cut $150M in royalties from music publishers and songwriters beyond what was already expected. This results from adding audiobooks into certain plans, adding books to the total subscription price.

The letter reads, “Spotify appears to be engaged in direct infringement by hosting unlicensed musical works in its lyrics, videos and podcasts and by distributing unauthorized reproductions, synchronizations, displays and derivative sues of these musical works to its users. Making matters worse, Spotify profits from such infringement.”

In response, a Spotify spokesperson stated: “This letter is a press stunt filled with false and misleading claims. It’s an attempt to deflect from the Phono IV deal that the NMPA agreed to and celebrated back in 2022. We paid a record amount to benefit songwriters in 2023, and we are on track to exceed this amount in 2024. Spotify is a platform for licensed content. We are committed to the integrity of our platform, and we have a clear process in place for rightsholders to contact Spotify about any content they believe is unlicensed.”

BLK, the number one dating and lifestyle app for the Black community, proudly unveils their new endeavor: The BLK MBA (Master of Black Affection) Program. Created to empower and support recent graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) facing post-graduation employment challenges, this innovative initiative seeks to redefine both professional and dating dynamics, while providing financial support to young job-seekers.

At its core, the BLK MBA Program creates an opportunity for recent HBCU graduates to navigate the journey from academia to the workforce. Despite improving graduation rates, systemic and cultural obstacles often obstruct the path to employment for Black graduates. African-Americans with college degrees are twice as likely to be unemployed as other graduates, with 12.4 percent of Black college graduates being unemployed, a rate significantly higher than the 5.6 percent average for all college graduates. BLK recognizes the need for solutions to fix this gap.

Enter the BLK MBA Program – a purpose-driven initiative designed to empower and support recent HBCU graduates struggling to find employment after college. But this isn’t your traditional MBA program – there will be no coursework or thesis statements. Instead, BLK will select three outstanding graduates from HBCUs, inviting them to embark on a summer of growth and discovery. These participants will immerse themselves in the vibrant BLK community, exploring networking and connections on the app. Along the way, they’ll share feedback to make the user experience even better, working alongside the brand to gain a deeper understanding of how Black Gen-Z approaches dating, networking and creating connections. Each participant will be awarded a stipend to support them during their journey.

“Our commitment to the Black community transcends the realms of just dating,” says Jonathan Kirkland, Head of Marketing at BLK. “The BLK MBA Program showcases our dedication to creating opportunities for professional growth and personal development for recent HBCU graduates. Through this initiative, we hope not only to address the employment challenges faced by Black graduates but also to enrich our platform with diverse perspectives and experiences.”

The application process for the BLK MBA Program commences in May, inviting recent HBCU graduates to apply. Applicants will be required to submit their resumes and a personal statement that showcases both their desire and need to be a part of the program. A panel of judges, comprising BLK brand team members and Black leaders from the BLK Advocacy Council, will evaluate applications to select three participants based on academic achievements, personal statements, and potential contributions.

Selected participants will embark on a transformative journey throughout the summer, immersing themselves in the vibrant BLK community to hone their networking skills and forge meaningful connections with other Black singles, recent graduates, young professionals and Black business leaders. Participants will proactively network, arrange meetings, and go on dates with the goal of fostering relationships that could lead to meaningful relationships and valuable job opportunities. TikTok argues that this legislation infringes upon its constitutional rights, particularly the First Amendment. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., was anticipated, given ByteDance’s firm stance against selling TikTok. The company maintains that the data of its American users is safeguarded.

“There is no question: the Act will force a shutdown of TikTok by January 19, 2025,” the lawsuit states, “silencing the 170 million Americans who use the platform to communicate in ways that cannot be replicated elsewhere,” the lawsuit says. “For the first time in history, Congress has enacted a law that subjects a single, named speech platform to a permanent, nationwide ban, and bars every American from participating in a unique online community with more than one billion people worldwide.”

The suite continued, “qualified divestiture’ demanded by the Act to allow TikTok to continue operating in the United States is simply not possible: not commercially, not technologically, not legally. And certainly not on the 270-day timeline required by the Act. Petitioners have repeatedly explained this to the U.S. government, and sponsors of the Act were aware that divestment is not possible.” 

“There are good reasons why Congress has never before enacted a law like this. Consistent with the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of expression, the United States has long championed a free and open Internet — and the Supreme Court has repeatedly recognized that speech “conveyed over the Internet” fully qualifies for “the First Amendment’s protections.” What it comes down to is the Act’s national security argument is iffy and questionable at best. “If Congress can do this, it can circumvent the First Amendment by invoking national security and ordering the publisher of any individual newspaper or website to sell to avoid being shut down. And for TikTok, any such divestiture would disconnect Americans from the rest of the global community on a platform devoted to shared content — an outcome fundamentally at odds with the Constitution’s commitment to both free speech and individual liberty.”

Artificial Intelligence is getting smarter, funnier, and in some ways creepier. Arguably a photo of the most famous painting, the Mona Lisa is capable of doing more than just smirking, with the help of Microsoft’s brand new artificial intelligence technology.

Researchers at Microsoft detailed VASA-1, a new AI model they developed that takes still images of a face with an audio clip of anyone speaking, and it automatically creates a pretty realistic video of that person’s photo speaking. The videos are compelling, with lip-syncing, and natural face, and head movements—spooky stuff. 

Get this: in one demo video, the Microsoft researchers animated an image of the Mona Lisa to spit a comedic rap, originally by actor Anne Hathaway. Well at least it wasn’t a real artist, then we’d have more AI controversy on our hands. 

The output result may be entertaining but may also feel jarring in the product’s authenticity. It just feels too real for some. Now Microsoft said the tech could work within educational applications or, as they put it, “improving accessibility for individuals with communication challenges,” or even virtual companions for humans. Now, that all sounds good, but it may be used for impersonating people and other nefarious uses. Imagine this AI technology used to disrupt creative industries from film to advertising and more.

Microsoft says it is not releasing the VASA-1 model to the public just yet. “We are opposed to any behavior that creates misleading or harmful contents about real persons,” Microsoft researchers said in a recent blog post. They added that they have “no plans to release” the product publicly “until we are certain that the technology will be used responsibly and in accordance with proper regulations.”

The Mona Lisa rapping and all that is fun and games, but until this technology can be responsibly managed, it seems like it’s ripe for potential issues in a world where there’s already enough misinformation floating around. So, the jury is out on this one.

Shawn Meaike, Entrepreneur and Founder of One Punch Media and host of the Close and Conquer Podcast, hasn’t always built billion-dollar companies. As a child, he discovered a love for baseball. However, it wasn’t just a game to Shawn—it was a lifeline that offered him a path to college and a vision of helping to make his community a better place.

His decision to seek an education in social work was a calling that deeply resonated with him. His dedication to helping abused children over the fourteen years of his social work career wasn’t simply about offering aid but nurturing hope in the darkest places. He says, “Every child I worked with taught me something new about strength and hope.”

During his time in social work, Shawn also ventured into the real estate business, recalling that he “was looking for stability but found [his] entrepreneurial spirit instead.” His path was initially meant to provide financial stability through property management and house building, but it eventually became an unyielding passion for understanding business dynamics.

In 2013, Shawn’s experiences led him to found an insurance company whose skyward rise from $12 million to a billion dollars in sales became a reflection of Shawn’s belief in power and growth.

Shawn didn’t stop here, however. He expanded his horizons in business by founding Punch Media, where, as the CEO, he provides resources on everything from sales training to navigating the intricacies of multi-level marketing. His website, Punch Me in the Face Media, features a directory to not only his podcast, where he talks about everything from current events to politics and sports but also his YouTube series called “Millionaire Maker,” where participants compete for the chance to have Shawn as their business leadership coach. Each of the industries he has ventured into has ultimately taught him the universal value of storytelling and connection.

“Seeing someone realize their own potential is the greatest reward,” he says.

Of course, Shawn’s path to success hasn’t been without its hurdles. After battling drug and alcohol addiction, he is proud to say that he is over 23 years sober, a feat he states wasn’t just about “giving something up; it was about getting my life back.”

Shawn’s mission to redesign the way the world operates has led to him becoming an active advocate and sponsor of the Dream Center in Los Angeles, California, as well as the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

From grassroots beginnings to unimaginable ventures and successes in life insurance, real estate, and media, Shawn’s story is not just one of financial success but of vulnerability and resilience.
