Netflix has unveiled the first extended trailer for its eagerly awaited NBA docuseries, “Starting 5.” Released on Monday afternoon, the series will chronicle the lives and careers of LeBron James, Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, Jimmy Butler, and Domantas Sabonis throughout the 2023-24 NBA season. The production is a collaboration between LeBron James’ media brand “Uninterrupted” and Peyton Manning’s “Omaha Productions.”

While Netflix had previously released a teaser, this new trailer offers the first real look at footage from the series, which is set to premiere on October 9.

The trailer showcases what promises to be an impressive deep dive into the personal and professional journeys of these NBA stars.

The winners are in for television’s most important night awarding the best in class on the small screen. The Prime-Time Emmys awarded a slew of brand new series and shows while celebrating diversity.

If you didn’t know, ”Shōgun” was the night’s biggest winner across the drama categories, snagging the four biggest awards of the night. “The Bear,” and “Baby Reindeer” cleaned up as well. Although the former was beat out by “Hacks” for Best Comedy Series.

Tyler Perry keeps working, and we’re here for it.

The television and film mogul’s highly anticipated Netflix series, Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black, dropped its first teaser and a premiere date.

Check this out. The show marks Perry’s debut television project with Netflix, expanding his partnership beyond films to include series.

The official synopsis of the series states:

“Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black follows two women leading very different lives. While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”

Get this: The cast includes Taylor Polidore Williams as Kimmie, Amber Reign Smith as Rain, and Crystle Stewart as Mallory, alongside Ricco Ross, Debbi Morgan, Richard Lawson, Steven G. Norfleet, and others in key roles.

Of course, Tyler Perry is the creator, director, writer, and executive producer on the project. That’s just how he does things, as you may know. Will Areu, Angi Bones, and Tony L. Strickland are also producing for Tyler Perry Studios.

Anyhow, Beauty in Black will premiere Part 1 on October 24 on Netflix, and the release date for the second part has yet to be announced.

Melvin Gregg is making moves. The rising actor has been cast in the upcoming follow-up series to “The Office”, set to stream on Peacock. 

The news of Gregg’s casting was first reported by Deadline Hollywood and adds him to a growing ensemble, which includes Chelsea Frei, Ramona Young, Domhnall Gleeson, and Sabrina Impacciatore.

Get this, the new series, co-created by “The Office” adapter Greg Daniels and “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman, is not an official spinoff but a mockumentary set within “The Office” universe.

Here’s the logline:

What’s more, the documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.

Behind the camera, the series is being produced by Universal Television, the series promises to blend familiar comedic tones with a fresh setting. 

Lisa Katz, President of NBCUniversal Entertainment, previously stated, “It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of “The Office” aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock. In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

Along with Daniels and Koman, the show will be executive produced by Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille).

Alright so Tyrese has been on a press run of sorts over the last couple of weeks. Maybe you’ve seen some of the interviews from The Breakfast Club to Club Shay Shay and more. He’s been, well, Tyrese. But what you may not know, outside of the inter webs he has a new movie out called ”1992.” 

Let’s get into the Hollywood Rundown!

‘1992’ is a gripping crime-thriller set against the backdrop of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. 

The film centers on a father, Mercer, who becomes caught up in a dangerous heist while desperately trying to protect his son from criminals during the chaos that erupted after the Rodney King verdict.

“1992 was a life-changing time for me, from “Deep Cover” to “The Chronic.” But as things in my life were coming together, everything in LA was coming apart. “1992” is a heist movie that really captures all of that. From my first encounter with Tyrese in “Baby Boy” to the performance in “1992,” I had to be a part of this. And it’s only fitting that the film come out under Death Row Pictures as Death Row is synonymous with LA culture in the 90’s, ya dig?”

The film boasts an ensemble cast including Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov. 

What’s more “1992” also stars Scott Eastwood and the late great Ray Liotta in one of his final film roles.

Netflix has released the first trailer for Tyler Perry’s upcoming World War II film, “The Six Triple Eight.” Perry wrote and directed the film, which is based on the true story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the first and only all-Black Women’s Army Corps unit to serve overseas during the war.

Let’s make no mistake: the WACs were vital to the war effort. It was the most important war this country had ever fought. That part.

Kerry Washington leads the charge as Major Charity Adams, the battalion’s commanding officer. The ensemble cast includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, and Kylie Jefferson, among others, and Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, and Oprah Winfrey appear.

“The Six Triple Eight” tells the story of these unsung heroes who overcame racism, sexism, and grueling working conditions to serve their country. Despite facing numerous obstacles, they were determined to deliver hope and shatter barriers. 

Here’s the official rundown:

“THE SIX TRIPLE EIGHT is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor and distinction. Given an extraordinary mission and united in their determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers.”

Perry produced the film behind the camera alongside Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, and others. The film will feature an original song titled “The Journey” by Diane Warren, performed by H.E.R., with choreography by Debbie Allen. “The Six Triple Eight” is set for a limited theatrical release on December 6, followed by a Netflix premiere on December 20.

Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler will be featured in a new Netflix documentary series titled “Starting 5”, set to premiere on October 9.

I have to admit, this looks fire.

The series will provide an inside look at the lives of several NBA stars, including LeBron James, Anthony Edwards, Jayson Tatum, and Domantas Sabonis.

Kind of overdue on a show like this, but if you don’t know, the NBA is super strict with authorizing access to the teams and, hence, the stars during the season. Brand protection and it makes sense.

“Starting 5” will go beyond game footage, showcasing behind-the-scenes moments from the players’ daily lives, both on and off the court. It’s like Hard Knocks but multiple teams and focused on stars only.

Butler, known for his vibrant personality and media day antics, including last year’s viral “Emo Jimmy” hairstyle, will likely captivate viewers with his off-court endeavors.

The series may also delve into Butler’s various side projects, including his coffee brand “Big Face Coffee,” his commercials and music videos appearances, and his passion for sports like soccer and tennis. He’s going to be a riot.

Insecure star Jay Ellis is working, working! The Maverick costar just joined the cast of Peacock’s upcoming thriller series All Her Fault, where he joins Succession lead Sarah Snook. 

The news was first reported by Deadline, which confirmed that Thomas Cocquerel will be part of the cast. It sounds like an interesting one-two punch.

Okay, so All Her Fault is an adaptation of Andrea Maria’s bestselling novel. 

Diving in, the series centers on Marissa Irvine (played by Snook), who arrives at an unfamiliar address, 14 Arthur Avenue, expecting to pick up her young son, Milo, from a playdate with a new school friend. However, when she knocks on the door, a stranger answers, and to Marissa’s horror, her son is nowhere to be found. This encounter sets off what becomes every parent’s worst nightmare.

Get this: Ellis will play Colin, an attorney, while Cocquerel will play Richie, a high school P.E. teacher. The series also features Dakota Fanning as Jenny, Abby Elliott as Lia, Jake Lacy as Peter, Sophia Lillis as Carrie, and Michael Peña as Detective Alcaras.

Megan Gallagher created the series and is also a writer and executive producer. Other executive producers include Nigel Marchant, Gareth Neame, and Joanna Strevens for Carnival Films, Jennifer Gabler Rawlings, and Christine Sacani. Minkie Spiro, who directed the first episode, is also an executive producer.

Netflix just dropped the first look and announced the premiere date for its upcoming thriller series, “The Madness”, starring Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo. 

Here’s what we know so far.

The eight-episode series, set to debut on November 28, 2024, promises a gripping and intense narrative centered around media pundit Muncie Daniels, played by Domingo.

In “The Madness”, Daniels stumbles upon a murder deep in the Poconos woods, launching him into a desperate fight for survival. As he struggles to uncover the truth and clear his name, Daniels must also reconnect with his estranged family and reevaluate the beliefs and ideals he once held dear.

“Everything about this conspiracy thriller excited me,” Domingo shared in an interview with Tudum. “It was a unique protagonist, one that I had never seen or experienced. Someone who has very centrist beliefs, and now they’re being thrust into the world to really hard-core believe in something and to reexamine the people that they believed were possible enemies. You realize you have more in common with them than you thought you had in the beginning.”

Behind the camera, the series is created by Stephen Belber and co-showrun by Belber and VJ Boyd. Clément Virgo directs and serves as an executive producer alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kaitlin Dahill. Anyway, ”Olitz” fans were thrilled to see Kerry Washington and her “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn reunite on stage at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday night.

You may know, Kerry Washington, who famously portrayed crisis manager Olivia Pope in the Shonda Rhimes political drama, took the stage to rally support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and encourage people to vote. Addressing the crowd, Washington said, “As I stand here, I know that there are folks on social media already saying ‘Go back to your TV show. Shut up and act.’ But I am not here tonight as an actor. I am here as a mother, as a daughter, as a proud union member.” Her words were met with enthusiastic applause.

She continued, “I am here as the granddaughter of immigrants, as a Black woman descended from enslaved people. I am here tonight because I am an American and because I am a voter and because we, the people, are stronger when all our voices are heard.”

After her speech, Tony Goldwyn, who played President Fitzgerald Grant III on “Scandal”, joined Washington on stage to take a selfie video with her and the excited crowd. Washington asked the crowd, “Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?” to which they responded with a resounding “Yes.”

Content time. Let’s talk about the first trailer for “The Piano Lesson”, a new Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s renowned play, that just dropped. The trailer showcases a big cast led by John David Washington, Danielle Deadwyler, Samuel L. Jackson, and Corey Hawkins. Well, okay. Star studded!

Get this the film, is produced by Denzel Washington, and marks the directorial debut of his son, Malcolm Washington. A true family affair. 

Okay so in addition to its main cast, Shadow and Act reports that behind the camera, the film also features performances from Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Skylar Aleece Smith, Jerrika Hinton, and Gail Bean. Malcolm Washington co-wrote the screenplay with Virgil Williams, while Todd Black joins as a producer. Executive producers include Jennifer Roth, Constanza Romero Wilson, and Denzel Washington’s daughter, Katia Washington.

“A battle is brewing in the Charles Household. At the center stands a prized heirloom piano tearing two siblings apart. It exposes deep-seated truths about how we interpret our past and who has the power to shape our heritage. Sounds deep. 

This film is the third adaptation of an August Wilson play produced by Denzel Washington. Guess he’s a fan. This follows the critically acclaimed “Fences” (2016) and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” (2020), both of which received multiple Oscar nominations.

Move over, Hard Knocks. Peacock is gearing up to premiere Here Come The Irish, a highly anticipated docuseries following the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team throughout the current season. 

The series is set to debut on August 29, with new episodes released throughout the season. 

Here Come The Irish, offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look into the lives of Notre Dame’s players and coaches, both on and off the field. 

I think last time we looked at that world was dramatized in “Rudy.” But we could be wrong.

Get this: the series will feature exclusive footage and insightful interviews, providing fans with an in-depth understanding of what it takes to be part of this storied football program.

Behind the camera, Here Come The Irish is produced by Fighting Irish Media; the series is executive produced by Jon Asher, Katy Lonergan, and Shalika Shetty, with John Fornaro directing. 

The docuseries will include interviews with key figures associated with Notre Dame football, such as current head coach Marcus Freeman and legendary former head coach Lou Holtz. That should be interesting …

Whelp, that’s that for ”The Acolyte” which has been canceled and won’t return for a second season on Disney+. 

Surprising? I’m not sure. The series had more than decent reviews, but those often excitable Star Wars fans felt a way about it. I’m not saying that played a role.

The news, which surfaced in various trade publications and Was reported on by Deadline, has left some fans shocked. Many took to Threads to express their disappointment and protest the decision. See, excitable. 

ICYMI, the series created by Leslye Headland, had just one season, and its abrupt cancellation surprised fans, especially since actor Manny Jacinto recently promoted the show at D23. 

Get this: According to Deadline, Lucasfilm decided not to proceed with the series, which concluded on a cliffhanger. Ugh, it always hurts when they leave fans hanging like that. 

The final episode featured Amandla Stenberg’s character, Osha, turning to the dark side to become the acolyte of Jacinto’s mysterious Sith master. 

Stenberg also portrayed Osha’s twin, Mae, who was initially trained by Jacinto’s character before aligning with the Jedi. 

So basically, the official reason for the cancellation has not been disclosed. 

Look, we want one. Fans deserve one. But we’re probably not getting one, ha. 

The show had a dope international cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Margarita Levieva, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, and Carrie-Anne Moss. Fans praised the series for its racial and gender diversity and its inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters. 

The Acolyte was the first Star Wars series led by a woman of color … with Stenberg—a queer woman of color—playing the lead. 

And it’s canceled. Interesting.

The show also received acclaim for criticizing the Jedi’s imperialistic views, emphasizing that “absolute power corrupts absolutely,” whether Jedi or Sith. The entire premise isn’t about an evil authoritarian empire that oppresses pretty much everyone in its path.

However, the series faced backlash from racist and sexist viewers, often referred to as “the fandom menace.” That part was a thing. Please believe it. 

Maybe viewership vs. production costs played a role. That’s always an issue in streaming content.

Let’s not explain why it got cancelled, but we can infer all day. SMH.

“American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” is Ryan Murphy’s new series coming to FX. 

This show is set to be the first season of an anthology series, similar to Murphy’s “American Horror Story” or the one about the OJ Simpson trial starring Cuba Gooding Jr. Ya’ll remember that?

The series just dropped the first trailer. Written by Stu Zicherman and executive produced by Murphy, it promises to delve into the dramatic and tragic life of former NFL star Aaron Hernandez. 

According to the official description, “The first installment of “American Sports Story” is based on the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” from “The Boston Globe” and Wondery. The limited series charts the rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez and explores the disparate strands of his identity, his family, his career, his suicide, and their legacy in sports and American culture.”

The story will explore much of Hernandez’s complexities, including allegations of affairs with men while engaged to Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez, who supported him through his conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd. 

During the trial, Hernandez was also indicted for the 2012 double homicide of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, though he was acquitted in 2017. 

Tragically, just days after his acquittal, Hernandez was found dead in his jail cell, an apparent suicide. 

That was just crazy. 

Get this: the series stars Josh Andres Rivera as Aaron Hernandez, alongside Jaylen Barron, Catfish Jean, Tony Yazbeck, Lindsay Mendez, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Kim Kardashian is expanding her mogul status with a new Hulu series, “Group Chat.” Developed in collaboration with her longtime friend La La Anthony and executive producer Kenya Barris, known for creating ABC’s “Black-ish” and its successful spinoff “Grown-ish.” The new project is part of a first-look deal with Disney. 

Get this: Kardashian is hard at work on the series, inspired by La La Anthony’s 2014 book, “The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness.” As expected, La La Anthony will star in and executive produce the show alongside Kardashian and Barris.

Kenya Barris has been busy. His recent slate of projects includes Netflix’s “You People” and “The Vince Staples Show,” as well as “Diarra From Detroit” for BET+. The production of “Group Chat” will be a joint effort involving BET Studios, 20th Television, and Barris’s Khalabo Ink Society.

La La Anthony expressed her excitement about the upcoming series on Instagram on Wednesday, August 15, writing: “This show is about to be CRRAAZZZYYY! Everything you and your friends talk about in love, life, friendships, and relationships! Can’t wait!! Thank you @bslater9 for seeing the vision and putting this together! Let’s gooooooooo @hulu!!!!”

Kim Kardashian added: “I’m incredibly interested in telling stories that are personal, complicated, and relevant, drawing from my own experiences and those familiar to me.” She added that she was eager to work with 20th Television again, having previously teamed up with them on “American Horror Story: Delicate.”

Karey Burke, president of 20th Television, and Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group, described Kardashian as a “multi-hyphenate in every sense of the word,” emphasizing her ability to create and produce stories that deeply resonate with audiences.

Tyler Perry keeps winning. His latest film, Divorce in the Black, has been killing it for Prime Video. Although reviewers harshly criticized the drama, its value to Amazon is undeniable. 

So check this out: According to Variety, the movie has been driving new Prime Video subscriptions. What does that mean? Divorce in the Black is achieving the highest subscriber increase among Amazon-MGM-produced projects. 

Get this wild figure. The film attracted significant viewership, amassing 498 million minutes watched within its first four days on the platform. During the week of July 8-14, Divorce in the Black ranked third on Nielsen’s Top 10 streaming chart, trailing behind Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Paramount’s If.

So basically, it’s a tour de force. 

ICYMI, Divorce in the Black was released on July 11 and has emerged as one of Tyler Perry’s most divisive films, receiving a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hold up. ZERO PERCENT? Sheesh … That marks the lowest rating on RT, of any Perry film, ever … OMG.

Anyway, the Prime Video exclusive stars Meagan Good and Cory Hardrict as a couple dealing with the aftermath of their split. Good’s character, Ava, is a banker whose marriage to her abusive husband, Dallas, deteriorates. As Ava tries to move on, Dallas vows to make her life miserable. That’s the synopsis, and critics hate it, but people are watching it. Go figure. 

Despite the ugly criticism, Divorce in the Black has successfully connected with audiences and boosted Prime Video’s subscriber base like they needed any more money. Ha.

ABC just announced that Grant Ellis will be the new star of “The Bachelor,” following his emotional departure from “The Bachelorette” on Monday night. Ellis becomes the second Black “Bachelor” in the show’s over 20-year history, following Matt James, who was the lead in 2021 for the show’s 25th season. Let’s go Grant!

Get this, Ellis’s journey for love, a partner and everything in between will continue in Season 29 of “The Bachelor,” set to premiere early next year. In a press release, ABC described Ellis as someone “eager to embark on a journey filled with romance, adventure, and genuine connections,” seeking a partner who shares his “values of loyalty, humor, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.”

What’s crazy is despite his charisma and good looks, Ellis was eliminated by Jenn Tran on “The Bachelorette.” Tran admitted that while Ellis was very much her type, she couldn’t see herself going home to meet his family. “He’s hot, he’s hot, and he’s also hot,” Tran said, explaining her decision.

Buddy might have been disappointed, but he’s optimistic about his new potentially life changing opportunity. “But when life knocks you down, you have to be able to pivot. So, I ended up getting into the finance field, and it’s been off to the races from there,” he said. “The only thing I’m missing right now is my person.”

Who is Grant Ellis, anyway? He’s a 30-year-old former professional basketball player and day trader, is described by ABC as a “self-proclaimed mama’s boy” with an infectious smile and unwavering positivity. “Godfather of Harlem” just teased the first image from its hotly anticipated fourth season, offering fans a glimpse of Rome Flynn in his new guest starring role as Frank Lucas. Ya’ll know who Frank Lucas was, right? Well … American Gangster. Yes, that Frank Lucas. 

Flynn joins the show alongside series lead Forest Whitaker. 

Get this, the upcoming season will present Lucas in a version set 10 years prior to the events depicted in the film “American Gangster,” where the character was famously portrayed by Denzel Washington. Flynn’s portrayal introduces viewers to a younger Frank Lucas, capturing his rise before becoming the notorious figure seen in the film.

Okay, according to MGM+, Lucas is framed as “a country boy from North Carolina who ventured to Harlem and, after initial friction with gangster Bumpy Johnson, eventually rose to become Bumpy’s fierce defender and right-hand man.”

NBCUniversal streaming platform Peacock just released the official trailer for its upcoming documentary “Gary”, which unpacks the life and legacy of Gary Coleman, who you recall was the beloved child star of hit sitcom “Diff’rent Strokes”, and the tragic circumstances surrounding his untimely death at age 42.

The project is directed by Robin Dashwood and produced by RAW, “Gary” explores Coleman’s meteoric rise to fame as the breakout star of the hit TV show “Diff’rent Strokes” and the struggles he faced in the years that followed. 

Get this, the premium documentary promises a comprehensive look at Coleman’s life, including his battles with depression and the controversies that emerged after his untimely death.

The official description reads like this: 

Gary follows the extraordinary story of Gary Coleman’s rise to international fame as the child star of “Diff’rent Strokes”; his struggles with fame; and the controversy surrounding his tragic death at the age of 42. For the first time, viewers will get insight into Coleman’s private world through exclusive interviews with his fellow actors, industry insiders, and his estranged ex-wife and parents.

This is a feature documentary, spanning 90 minutes, featuring never-before-seen interviews with people close to Coleman, including his “Diff’rent Strokes” co-star Todd Bridges, former managers, and members of his estranged family. Sounds like it will delve into some good, dark and very real experiences surrounding Coleman. 

“Gary” is executive produced by Louise Norman, Tom Sheahan, Steve Boettcher, and Mike Trinklein, and is set to premiere exclusively on Peacock on August 29.

Who was Gary Coleman? He became a household name in the late 1970s as Arnold Jackson, the wisecracking younger brother in “Diff’rent Strokes”. His signature phrase, “Whatchu talkin’ ’bout, Willis?” became iconic. However, despite his early success, Coleman’s life was marred by legal battles, financial difficulties, and health problems related to a congenital kidney disease, which stunted his growth and required frequent medical treatment. Deep all around. 

Sadly, as an adult, Coleman struggled to find steady work in Hollywood and faced numerous personal challenges. He had a highly publicized legal battle with his parents over the mismanagement of his earnings. In 2010, Coleman’s life ended in controversy when he died following a fall at his home. His death was ruled accidental, but it fueled widespread speculation and debate. There goes the controversy around his death and we’re sure the documentary will go into that in detail.

This looks fun. Aaron Pierre and AnnaSophia Robb team up as unexpected allies in their fight to expose a small-town conspiracy in the upcoming Netflix film, “Rebel Ridge”. 

The action packed trailer with a smart hook introduces Pierre, known for his role in “Genius: MLK/X”, as Terry Richmond, a man on a straightforward mission to post bail for his cousin. However, what starts as a simple task quickly spirals into a dangerous journey, forcing Terry to join forces with a court clerk, played by Robb, in a battle against corruption. The film also features Don Johnson in a key role.

“Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre) enters the town of Shelby Springs on a simple but urgent mission—to post bail for his cousin and save him from imminent danger. In an interview with Blavity’s Shadow and Act, Pierre discussed his enthusiasm for the project, calling it an “undeniable” opportunity. “The very first moment I met with Jeremy, the first moment I read the script, which I read within minutes of it being sent to me, and I finished it in maybe 90 minutes, it was undeniable for me,” he said. “The filmmaker is undeniable, the character was undeniable. The journey of the characters was undeniable, and the studio behind it was undeniable.”

What’s interesting is Pierre broke down how the role allowed him to explore a different side of his acting abilities, stepping away from his usual work in biopics:

“I think a considerable amount, if not the majority, of what I’ve done has been based on historical fact. And in some ways, this film, although it’s a fiction story, it does make a comment on the reality of a number of people’s existence and in regards to their engagements with police,” he explained. “But I think in regards to this, I think it’s arguably the first time that I’ve really gotten into my action bag and engaging in this high-velocity action, tumbling, falling, jumping, cycling, running…so I’m really excited, hopefully, for people to gift us with the opportunity to engage with them and hopefully entertain them.”

“Rebel Ridge” hits Netflix on September 6 and we can’t wait.

Move over Nollywood as the Africa’s only thriving film market that because Idris Elba has been granted land in Zanzibar to establish a film studio, as reported by the BBC. 

Okay Hollywood is in Nigeria and that’s the world’s third largest film market after Hollywood and Bollywood in India. 

The UK actor and DJ best known for roles in The Wire and Luthor, received approval to contribute to the burgeoning film industry in the Tanzanian archipelago. Zanzibar’s investment minister, Shariff Ali Shariff, mentioned at the Zanzibar International Film Festival that the studio could rival those in “Hollywood, Nollywood, or Bollywood” and might be dubbed “Zollywood.”

Zollywood. That sounds fun but feels a long way from competing with established film hubs around the world. 

Get this, Elba, who grew up in East London and has familial ties to Sierra Leone and Ghana, has previously expressed his ambition to help develop the film industry in Africa. According to a spokesperson for the president of Zanzibar, “If successful, the project will help not only Tanzania but also eastern and central Africa.”

Back in February 2023, Elba discussed his plans for a film studio in Ghana, saying: “Currently, we call it West African Studios, but that’s a working title. We’ve been working on this for three or four years to raise a plan that puts a facility at the centre of African filmmaking.”

We’re all for bringing commerce to the continent. Somebody has to plant more money trees so why not Idris.

Watch out, Keke Palmer and SZA’s upcoming buddy comedy has expanded its star-studded cast, and they aren’t playing with this lineup. 

Above the line, the untitled film is produced by Sony’s TriStar Pictures and MACRO Film Studios. Issa Rae leads the production team. Syreeta Singleton, showrunner of “Rap Sh!t,” is the writer, and Lawrence Lamont directs. It sounds like they’re about to have great creative chemistry on this one. 

Get this: Deadline Hollywood reports that the cast now includes Lil Rel Howery, Katt Williams, Janelle James, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia. Joshua Neal, Patrick Cage, and Aziza Scott have also joined this intriguing ensemble.

Despite the lineup, the plot details remain closely guarded but promise to be a goodie with laughs and surprises. 

The project originated from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, a collaboration between ColorCreative and Sony aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop their first studio feature based on original concepts. That is exactly what the industry needs: original ideas from diverse upcoming filmmakers. Period.

As previously stated in earlier Deadline reporting: “The project came together from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures with plot details being kept under wraps. The lab was a previous pact between ColorCreative and Columbia Pictures to source and incubate emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop and write their first studio feature based on original ideas.”

Who’s who is making this one? As mentioned, Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi are producing through Hoorae, with Deniese Davis producing through ColorCreative. Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks produce via Macro Film Studios, while Keke and Sharon Palmer are executive producers through Big Boss. Singleton is serving as co-producer.

We’re just curious to see SZA acting under the bright lights with all these fantastic actors from what’s bound to be a great script. Good for her!

Phaedra Parks returns to The Real Housewives of Atlanta after a six-year hiatus. The TV personality announced her return on Instagram on Monday. 

In her surprising post on the Gram, Parks shared a top-tier picture of herself stepping off a jet plane while holding a peach in her left hand, symbolizing her return to the show. Well, we see you, Phaedra. Period. 

Here’s how Ms. Parks captioned the big announcement: ”You called. I answered #RHOA #S16,” Parks captioned the photo.

Let’s take you all back; Parks initially joined “RHOA” in its third season in 2010 and remained a cast member until the end of Season 9 in 2017. During her time away from “Housewives,” she appeared on Bravo’s “Married to Medicine,” starring in the show’s milestone 10th season alongside Jackie Walters, Simone Whitmore, Toya Bush-Harris, and Heavenly Kimes.

Her triumphant return to “RHOA” comes in tumultuous times for the arguably one of the top reality dramas on the small screen. After the recent departures of cast members Kandi Burruss and Kenya Moore, she steps into a lot of bad blood and thick air, if you get the drift. 

Bravo is still leading the way with docudramas, and RHOA is currently filming its 16th season/ Announced in May, the newest season will see the return of cast members Porsha Williams, Shamea Morton Mwangi, and Drew Sidora, who will be joined by newcomers Brittany Eady, Angela Oakley, and Kelli Ferrell as full-time peach holders. Congrats on the promotions for the full-timers; let’s hope they bring the heat that Kenya undoubtedly left when she got the axe. 

Oh, and get this: former “RHOA” personality Cynthia Bailey will return as an official friend of the group. We need some of her confidence back on air. We don’t know about you all but we’re psyched for this new season. Welcome back, Phaedra.

“Love Island USA” has crowned its latest champions. One of them is related to pretty famous athlete. Bet you didn’t have that on your bingo card.

ICYMI, Love Island USA contestants Kordell Beckham and Serena Page emerged victorious on Sunday, securing the $100,000 prize after being voted the fan-favorite couple of the season. That name sound familiar? That’s because Kordell’s older brother, is NFL star Odell Beckham Jr., who expressed his approval of the new couple.

During the July 18 episode, he FaceTimed in to Love Island USA to congratulate the couple and offer his blessing.

Get this, Odell, who has been following the season closely, was introduced to Serena during the call and noted the instant connection between her and Kordell. He reminisced about their matching green outfits when they first arrived on the island, saying: 

“The green and green, boom! Y’all just got matched together. I felt that, I’m telling you.”

As you would expect, Odell Jr. shared that he had been receiving constant messages about his “lil bro” from people eager to know his thoughts on the show. He found the attention amusing and praised Serena, calling her a “great partner” for Kordell.

Reflecting on love, here’s how Odell commented on the subject: 

“Love is the most powerful thing that we have. Nothing better than just laughing with your person. I just feel like life’s all about enjoying the moments.”

The football star added he extended an invitation to Hard Rock Stadium. “I don’t know how hot it is down there, but Miami’s kind of hot so y’all get ready to come to these games,” he told the couple.

Miami could be a convenient meeting spot for Kordell and Serena, who plan to split their winnings. That’s sweet of them to play nice with the money.  

Both hail from Houston, though Kordell, an aircraft fueler, currently resides in Dallas, while Serena, a media planner, is based in Los Angeles.

What’s even sweeter, Kordell expressed his delight at his brother’s enthusiasm for his new relationship. “My brother is very supportive,” he shared with E! News. “We talk damn near every day.”

Super cute. Hopefully it lasts.

HBO has unveiled the official trailer for “City of God: The Fight Rages On”, a highly anticipated sequel series to the acclaimed 2002 Brazilian film “City of God.”

Full stop, ya’ll remember the movie “City of God.” The film was dark, thrilling and gave an elevated, dramatized look into the gritty life within the Brazilian favelas.

Some consider “City of God” a cinematic masterpiece. Let that sit there. 

Get this, HBO is setting the six-episode series is set twenty years after the events of the original film and brings back beloved characters like Rocket (Wilson), Berenice, Bradock, Cinthia, Barbantinho, and Melonhead. The series will use flashbacks, featuring excerpts from the original film, to delve into the memories and emotional journeys of the protagonists.

Here’s the description from HBO:

CITY OF GOD: THE FIGHT RAGES ON is an adapted continuation of the literary work of Paulo Lins and will tell the story of its characters taking as a starting point the work of the photographer Buscapé. The plot unfolds  in the early 2000s when the release of a young drug dealer from prison puts Cidade de Deus back into dispute. Residents find themselves trapped between drug traffickers, militias and public authorities, but the need to escape this cycle makes the community unite to face the oppressor.

Let’s get into the cast that includes returning actors Alexandre Rodrigues, Roberta Rodrigues, Thiago Martins, Sabrina Rosa, Kiko Marques, Edson Oliveira, and newcomers Andréia Horta, Marcos Palmeira, Eli Ferreira, Luellem de Castro, Jefferson Brasil, Otávio Linhares, Rafael Lozano, Leandro Daniel, and Luiz Bertazzo. It also features debuting talents from Rio de Janeiro communities like Cidade de Deus, Vidigal, and Mangueira.

Behind the camera the series is produced by O2 Filmes, “City of God: The Fight Rages On” is directed by Aly Muritiba, who also co-writes the series with Sérgio Machado, Renata Di Carmo, Armando Praça, Estevão Ribeiro, and Rodrigo Felha. Bruno Costa serves as the second director, with Mariano Cesar, Anouk Aaron, and Mônica Albuquerque as executive producers for Warner Bros. Discovery.

“City of God: The Fight Rages On” is on deck to premiere on Sunday, August 25, at 8 p.m. on HBO Latino and will also be available for streaming on Max.

Tessa Thompson has her next television project on deck. The “Creed” star is set to star in and executive produce a new thriller series for Netflix, adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel “His & Hers.”

If you haven’t read the book, the thrilling series centers on a woman who was once a successful journalist but is drawn back into investigative work due to a murder. Unlike the book, which is set in London, the series will be based in Atlanta, aligning with the trend of Hollywood productions moving to Georgia. Atlanta as the backdrop of a murder mystery? You have our full attention!

“Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna [Thompson] lives in haunting reculsivity, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega–the sleepy town where she grew up–Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: his and hers, which means someone is always lying.”

“I am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of,” Thompson shared with Netflix’s Tudum. “From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book, to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.”

Leading the charge behind the camera is Dee Johnson, known for “Nashville” and “Fellow Travelers”, who will serve as showrunner and write alongside “Ozark” creator Bill Dubuque. Executive producers include Jessica Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Kishori Rajan, Kristen Campo, and Thompson. William Olroyd will write and direct the first episode.

Gotta love a feel good story about wellness and that holds true with Lil Rel Howery proudly sharing his weight loss journey. The thing is many are “fans” are speculating his amazing transformation is due to the use of Ozempic. First off, so what and why is that a bad thing even if it was true? It isn’t if you believe Howery but so what if people use the big “O.” Sad that Ozempic shaming is a thing. People will find any reason to be miserable. 

Anwway, on July 22, the Chicago native posted a photo on Instagram from the red carpet premiere of his new film, “Harold and the Purple Crayon.” The image showcased a noticeably slimmer and leaner Howery. In his post, Rel explained his truth which was a dedication to health over the past five years has led him to feel and look the best he ever has. He attributed his success to quitting drinking, adopting a healthier diet, and improving his spiritual and emotional well-being.

“Whatever you do, please do it for yourself, and if you can, don’t take shortcuts. Really put the work in. This is all just straight hard work, nothing else, and that’s the honest to God truth,” Rel wrote. “Let me be an example of truly putting in the work. Also, please go see our new movie “Harold and the Purple Crayon” on August 2nd in theaters everywhere. #MovieMakingRel #RelTheUpgrade #ProudOfMe.”

But fans being fans or haters, however you want to classify them, quickly flooded the comment section with mixed reactions to his transformation. Many applauded his commitment and found inspiration in his journey. 

One commenter joked, “Boy, you look like your own lil brother. [lmao] Good work G.” Another praised, “Your skin has a glow to it! The change from within is showing all over you! You look blessed, you look GOOD! This is MOTIVATION!”

Hollywood friends were congratulatory including Ludacris, Vic Mensa, Ava DuVernay, Terry Crews, and Tina Knowles to name a few. 

Some skeptics accused Rel of lying about his weight loss and using Ozempic instead. Comments ranged from, “Why can’t people tell the truth about how they lost weight,” to, “Damn crack is one hell of a drug,” and “This guy done got on Ozempic.” 

Here’s how Rel responded on the Gram … On July 24 with a video addressing his detractors. He firmly denied using Ozempic and emphasized that his weight loss was achieved naturally. “I’m on that Godzempic, Happyzempic, Hardworkzempic, PurposeZempic, and just plain Truthzempic,” he captioned the clip. “I’m grateful and glad I said yes to God’s assignment on my life and friends still here and gone that kept it 100 with me… #BlessedAndHighlyFavored.”

Whatever. Ozempic or not, and Howery makes it clear it is not, people need to live their truth and worry about their own wellness instead of attacking someone else’s. Period.

Get this, ”Fight Night” is adapted from the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast of the same name. It delves into the real events that took place in Atlanta on October 26, 1970. Will Packer, who produced the podcast, also serves as an executive producer for the series.

Kevin Hart plays Chicken Man, a hustler striving to make his mark among elite Black mafia members, gangsters, and powerful figures not just in Georgia but nationwide. He throws an afterparty to celebrate the historic fight between Muhammad Ali and Jerry Quarry, marking Ali’s return to boxing after being banned for refusing military draft. FYI, that was a big deal back then.

We won’t say to much but the party takes a disastrous turn when attendees are robbed in what is known as Atlanta’s most audacious underworld heist, with Chicken Man suspected of masterminding the plot. He must then work to prove his innocence as law enforcement seeks to bring justice to the victims.

Don Cheadle plays Detective J.D. Hudson, who faces the complex challenge of investigating the heist, especially since some victims are also criminals. That’s a good role for Cheadle, he has played a great cop or federal agent in several roles in the past. 

So the podcast that inspired the limited series, first aired back in 2020, and provides the storyline:

“On October 26, 1970, Muhammad Ali triumphantly returned to boxing in Atlanta, Georgia. But the next morning, national headlines featured one of the biggest heists in history. At the center was a hustler named ‘Chicken Man.’ Fans arrived in Rolls Royces from New York City, wearing vibrant fur coats and diamonds. They entered the arena with engraved invitations, cheering when the first-round bell rang, minus two empty seats. After the fight, many top Black mafia leaders headed to Chicken Man’s house for a celebration, only to be met by sawed-off shotguns. On FIGHT NIGHT, J.D. Hudson, one of Atlanta’s first Black detectives, who helped lead Ali into the ring, was assigned to the robbery investigation by the police chief the next day. When asked years later, ‘When did the investigation end?’ J.D. replied, ‘When everybody was dead.’”

Recently, G-Unit honcho 50 Cent created a stir, as he’s known to do with recent pics alongside Drake in Toronto, posted on July 21. The Queens rapper turned television producer of the huge “Power” franchise hinted at some sort of collab between the two living legends.

Here’s what 50 posted:

“Brain [brain emoji] storming last night me and @champagnepapi gonna get the [camera emoji] rolling biggest ting on your TV GLG,” wrote the 49-year-old. “GreenLightGang” signals that the collaborative effort would likely be on the silver screen.

Remember, Drake posted the pic on his IG stories, so the vibes were mutual.

Comments got active, and some—Dot fans, obviously — were shunning 50 for the pic. While others understood why two heavyweights might consider partnering up.

Listen, love them or hate them, they both are giants from music to other media, including Hollywood. 

50 is a real force, from acting with big names to executive producing the aforementioned “Power” series and all the spinoffs, prequels, and more. 

Drake is the executive producer of HBO’s “Euphoria” series, considered one of the biggest shows at Warner, and stars Zendaya. 

Together, who knows what they can come up with in Hollywood. 

And when it comes to 50 Cent trolling, as he’s been known to do, this could be one big misdirection, but one thing he’s usually serious about is his Hollywood endeavors.

Bel-Air is returning for its third season, promising more drama and intrigue – all that good stuff. In the season three trailer, Joseph Marcell is best known for his role as Geoffrey, the intelligent-mouthed butler who waited on the Banks family in the original ’90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Well, we didn’t have that on our bingo card. 

Get this: Marcell’s new role in “Bel-Air” is being kept close to the vest.

But showrunner Carla Banks-Waddles hinted to The Wrap that Marcell is playing a “mysterious member of the Banks family’s past.” A ha. 

Now, onto the trailer. Marcell’s mysterious character delivers a cryptic line to Will (Jabari Banks): “There’s always going to be a price—that’s on you.” Whether the news is good or bad is left to interpretation.

At least we do know the main cast will return for Season Three, including Jabari Banks (Will), Adrian Holmes (Phillip Banks), Cassandra Freeman (Vivian Banks), Olly Sholotan (Carlton Banks), Coco Jones (Hilary Banks), Akira Akbar (Ashley Banks), Jimmy Akingbola (Geoffrey), Jordan L. Jones (Jazz), and Simone Joy Jones (Lisa). Guest stars Joseph Marcell and Karrueche Tran also appear in the new season.

Reflecting on bringing Marcell onto the show, Banks-Waddles shared the logistical challenges due to his schedule and residence in London. 

She explained, “We had a couple of ideas, but we weren’t sure on availability and storyline, and he’s the one that made sense. It was even tough for him because he doesn’t live here; he lives in London. He’s very much a working actor, does plays, was in the middle of a play, so just getting him here to L.A. for the availability was a feat. We weren’t even sure that was going to work out. So we had a couple of ideas for ways to get some O.G. cast in, and he was at the top of that list.”

Adding Marcell sounds like a nice bit of nostalgia. We’ll see how it all goes down when Bel-Air premieres on Peacock on Thursday, August 15.

Genius: MLK/X Star Aaron Pierre is reportedly joining the hit Apple TV+ series “The Morning Show” as reported by Deadline Hollywood.

Pierre who played Malcom X is coming onto to what is now the fourth season of what many consider a critically acclaimed series set in the world of a high profile national news morning show within a legacy media powerhouse. 

Get this, reports say Pierre is poised to play Miles, “an acclaimed visual artist who moves through the circles of the New York elite.” Not much more was said about his role, or how his new character will connect with the existing cast but with such great writing, he’s sure to make noise in a good way.

In addition to Pierre, actors Jeremy Irons and Marion Cotillard are coming into the fold. Two amazing actors from the feature film world. 

Returning are main cast members including Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Beharie, Greta Lee, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Karen Pittman and Nestor Carbonell.

Finally … Fans of HBO’s risqué dramatic series “Euphoria” can take a deep breathe. 3…2…1, Ya’ll good? Production for the third season is officially set to jumpstart in January 2025. Not too soon but not too far. 

Created, written, directed, and executive produced by Sam Levinson, the series stars Emmy winner Zendaya. And she been killing it. Effortlessly TBH.

Here’s what Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, had to say: 

“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on “Euphoria” in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to bringing this new season of “Euphoria” to life for the fans.”

So what does production in January 2025 mean for actual episodes hitting HBO or Max? 

They won’t be available until later in 2025. Hopefully. 

Let’s be real, this series, has ignited the careers of its stars including Zendaya, Colman Domingo, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, and Storm Reid, and continues to be a major hit for HBO. Hence the earth shattering news. Okay we’re being funny but ya’ll know this show is a hit.

Interesting. As they call it, this reimagining will follow the trend set by shows like “Bel-Air,” which gave a dramatic twist to Will Smith’s life story.

“Young Martin,” an hour-long drama, is set in present-day Detroit and centers on a spirited teenage Martin Payne. The series will explore his journey, which is marked by ambition, humor, and compassion. 

Get this: according to the official logline, the show will delve into themes of family, friendship, and the challenges of balancing adolescence and adulthood. Martin’s quick wit and magnetic personality will lead him into high-stakes situations where he must navigate various obstacles and emotions to find his path to success.

The project, reported by Deadline, is not yet attached to a network.

Unless you didn’t own a TV in the 90s, The original “Martin” sitcom, which aired for five seasons from 1992 to 1997 on Fox, followed Martin Payne, a radio talk show host, as he dealt with the ups and downs of his relationship with his girlfriend Gina (Tisha Campbell) and his friends Tommy (Thomas Mikal Ford), Cole (Carl Anthony Payne II), and Pam (Tichina Arnold). The show’s cast reunited in 2022 for the BET+ special “Martin: The Reunion,” where they shared behind-the-scenes stories and discussed the show’s legacy and impact. Thomas Mikal Ford, an original cast member, passed away in 2016.

“Young Martin” will be executive-produced by Martin Lawrence, Rae Proctor, Robert Lawrence, and Stacy Lyles under the banner RunTelDat, along with Bob Yari, David McPherson, Rosa Peart, and Greg Martin for WonderHill Studios.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee and with that Amazon Prime Video has officially announced “The Greatest,” marking the first authorized scripted series about Muhammad Ali’s life. Jaalen Best will star as Ali, with Ben Watkins, the creator of Amazon’s upcoming Alex Cross series, serving as showrunner. Wow, this a long time coming.

Get this, the series is produced in collaboration with Ali’s estate, “The Greatest” features Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, as an executive producer. Yes! Authenticity is key and this blessing by Ali’s widow makes that prospect all the more likely

The series promises to capture not only Ali’s legendary victories and defeats in the ring but also the intimate moments of his life outside the spotlight. According to the official description, “The world remembers an icon, but ‘The Greatest’ is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother, and a son.”

When talking life rights for Ali, they were initially acquired by executive producer Josh Wakely, who then introduced the project to Amazon. 

The high profile series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Ben Watkins’ Blue Monday Productions, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment, Wakely’s Grace: A Storytelling Company, and Authentic Studios, which holds the rights to Ali’s image.

“Muhammed Ali defined commitment and passion for multiple generations of Americans. Wiz Khalifa is turning to Pop superstar Taylor Swift to help him and his partner win on the NBC game show, Password.

“Wiz, it’s up to you if you want to play or pass,” host Keke Palmer announces in an exclusive first look from Us Weekly of the Tuesday, July 2 episode. In this episode, Khalifa, 36, faces off against Jimmy Fallon.

In the clip below, the announcer reveals the password is “Swift,” causing the audience to gasp. Both Palmer, 30 and Khalifa immediately see the perfect clue. “I know what to say!” Palmer exclaims.

The “Black and Yellow” rapper confidently decides to “shoot the moon” this round, giving his partner only one clue. A correct guess would earn them eight points, which is crucial as they are trailing by nine. This move could significantly boost their chances of winning the $25,000 prize.

The game show crowd erupts in excitement at Khalifa’s bold move, but Fallon, 49, is less enthusiastic, recognizing the advantage of using such a famous name. “Come on dude!” Fallon shouts, frustrated, as he stands up.

Palmer proceeds with Khalifa’s decision, urging him to give his clue. “Taylor,” Khalifa says, nodding to his partner, who quickly responds, “Swift!”

Then, the buzzer sounds, confirming the correct answer. Khalifa’s partner jumps out of her seat while he leans back with a smile. They celebrate with a victory dance, much to Fallon’s annoyance. However, Fallon admits he would have made the same choice if he were in Khalifa’s position.

Despite the many well-known Taylors, none are more iconic than Swift, which Khalifa is well aware of. Both Swift, 34 and Khalifa have long been prominent figures in the music industry.

And fun fact, bet you forgot Wiz’s banner is Taylor Gang, and Ty Dolla $ign was signed to them, like forever.

“Beverly Hills Cop” acting icon Eddie Murphy, credits late great comedians Robin Williams and John Belushi with steering him away from drugs his early career. In an appearance on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast, the 63-year-old actor – full stop, Eddie does NOT look 63! – recounted a night out in the 1980s with the comedy legends when he was just 19.

Here’s how Murphy recalled the moment, “It was me, [John] Belushi, and Robin Williams. They started doing coke, and I was like, ‘No, I’m cool.’” Reflecting on his decision, he said, “I wasn’t taking some moral stance. I just wasn’t interested in it. To not have the desire or the curiosity, I’d say that’s providence. God was looking over me in that moment.”

What’s refreshing to hear is as an up-and-coming comedian, Murphy avoided anything that could derail his success. “When you get famous really young, especially as a Black artist, it’s like living in a minefield. At any moment, you could step on a mine. Any moment, something could happen that can undo everything,” he explained. He admitted, “But I was oblivious to the fact that I was in a minefield.”

Murphy then went on to elaborate, “Just imagine being a young person and having the world placed at your feet. Nobody’s saying ‘no,’ and everybody wants to be around you. You try all types of s— and get caught up in all kinds of stuff. That’s what destroys people.”

If you’re unfamiliar, John Belushi, who was known for his iconic roles in “The Blues Brothers” and “Animal House,” died of an overdose in 1982 at the age of 33, and Robin Williams, who needs no reintroduction, died by suicide in 2014 after battling severe depression. He was 63.

What’s interesting, albeit somber, is that Murphy mentioned that the tragic ends of iconic entertainers like Prince, Michael Jackson, and Elvis Presley serve as cautionary tales for him. “I don’t drink. I smoked a joint for the first time when I was 30 years old. The extent of drugs is some weed,” he revealed.

In sad news for the culture, Bill Cobbs, the veteran character actor with a 50-year career spanning nearly 200 film and TV credits, passed away on Tuesday at his Riverside, California home. He was 90 years old, confirmed his representative.

Cobbs’ diverse and extensive career included notable roles such as Alan Tatum in Season 3 of “The West Wing,” and Moses, the clock man in the Coen brothers’ “The Hudsucker Proxy.” He also portrayed manager Devaney in “The Bodyguard” alongside Whitney Houston.

Cobbs began his television career with the 1975 educational series “Vegetable Soup” on New York public television. He went on to appear in numerous acclaimed shows, including “The Sopranos,” “Good Times,” “Sesame Street,” and “My Wife and Kids.” In 2020, he won a Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding limited performance in the series “Dino Dana.”

In “The West Wing,” Cobbs’ character Alan Tatum received a poignant scene where Charlie Young, the presidential aide, informs him of a rediscovered letter he wrote to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt at age nine.

Cobbs made his feature film debut in 1974 with “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.” His filmography includes “The Hitter” (1979), “Brother From Another Planet” (1984), “Air Bud” (1997), “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998), “The Muppets” (2011), and playing security guard Reginald in “Night at the Museum” (2006) with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

Born in Cleveland, Cobbs served as an Air Force radar technician and worked various jobs before moving to New York at 36 to pursue acting. His first professional role was in “Ride a Black Horse” with the Negro Ensemble Company. He also performed in street theater, regional theater, and at the Eugene O’Neill Theater.

Thomas Cobbs, a relative, commemorated Bill Cobbs on Facebook, calling him a “beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather, and friend.” The post read, “As a family, we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”

Amazon MGM just released the trailer for “Red One” a new holiday film with a new take on an age old genre – Christmas and Santa Clause. 

The film stars action superstar Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans (Captain America) and Lucy Liu (Kill Bill). Also starring are Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel and J.K. Simmons.

Here’s the official synopsis from Amazon MGM:

After Santa Claus – Code Name: RED ONE – is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.

In the director’s chair for “Red One” is Jake Kasdan helming a script penned by Chris Morgan, from a story by Hiram Garcia.

The Producers are Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Chris Morgan, Dany Garcia,  Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. 

The holiday film will premiere at theaters on Nov. 15.

In this show, Leakes reacts to clips of real couples experiencing the highs and lows of love, offering her personal insights and advice on their situations.

Here’s the official rundown:

“Outrageous Love with NeNe Leakes” captures the trials, triumphs, and tribulations of real couples. The new series showcases wild clips of real people caught up in love as NeNe reacts and gives her personal insight alongside the action.

Produced by Anomaly Entertainment, the executive producers include Leakes, Matthew Kelly, Michael Sorensen, Karen Infantino, and Lifetime’s Amy Savitsky and Nicole Vogel. 

Another clip show, “Parents Gone Wild,” also debuts on Lifetime on July 1 at 11/10c, featuring real parents navigating the challenges of raising children.

Jonathan Majors accepted his first award since his conviction for assault and harassment in December, receiving the Perseverance Award at the 4th Impact Awards in Los Angeles. Surrounded by supporters, the Creed III actor reflected on his arrest and verdict, thanking God and Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee.

“I reckon folks wanna know about this last year,” Majors said. “As a Black man in the criminal justice system, I felt anger, sadness, hurt, surprise. When they snatched me up out of my apartment in handcuffs, I didn’t feel like all that. I didn’t feel like Jonathan Majors, Mr. Creed, Mr. Kang. I felt like a little scared, weak boy.”

He continued, “Despite the support and evidence in my favor, I knew shit was bad. And it was bad because of who I was and what I am. And this is what happens to Black people all too often. Guilt and innocence often have little to do with the outcome. That’s the harsh reality I learned. But I know Black men face this every day. It deeply impacts us and changes the way we navigate through the world.”

Majors broke down in tears as he received the award from Iyanla Vanzant, who greeted him with a kiss on the forehead and a hug. He acknowledged his imperfections and expressed gratitude for his craft, family, and friends.

“There will be moments in your life when things get dark, and I mean really dark. I’ve seen those depths, that darkness in myself. I’ve sat in that pitch black, and what I’ve learned is that when you catch a glimpse of light, you run as hard and as fast as you can towards it. And I will never take that light for granted again.”

Majors thanked those who supported him, including Will Smith, Tyler Perry, David Oyelowo, Deon and Roxanne Taylor, Courtney B. Vance, and Whoopi Goldberg. He highlighted Goldberg’s wisdom and understanding, emphasizing the importance of community support.

He also thanked “all the women in my family,” and burst into tears while thanking Meagan Good. “I love you beyond all limit, with all my strength, with all my heart, I love you,” he said. “I don’t need to be so tough and strong when you carried me so many nights. I love you.”

Majors ended his speech by singing Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire” and addressing his daughter Ella. “And just to Ella, my baby girl, we gonna be alright. And your father loves you. I love you and I thank you for this.”

After being found guilty on two misdemeanor counts of reckless assault and harassment in his domestic violence case with ex, Grace Jabbari, Majors was sentenced to probation and to participate in a one-year domestic violence treatment program. Despite being fired from several projects and dropped by his talent management company, Majors has booked his first role since the trial in Martin Villeneuve’s Merciless.

Mariana had a significant role in the film as she filled in Sara’s shoes. Her rendition of the role was compelling, making viewers feel the emotion behind the portrayal. Her message clear: Coming home should not be a privilege. 

Without a doubt all of Mariana’s work has paid off and the critics agree; she in one of a kind! Mariana has won nine acting awards all as Lead Actress in prestigious festivals like the 2024 Oniros Awards-New York, LAFA 2024, New York Film Awards, The Swedish International Film Festival, the 2024 Actors Awards, and the Best Actor and Director Awards with the Gold Award (the highest honor in each category) and as of last week, best actress in a Lead Role at the SoCal Independet Film Awards.

“New Season, New Boobs!” That was the announcement that Sherri Shepherd made to open Season 2 of her namesake “Sherri” show. Joking that “everything is going to be bigger except these boobs,” the television host took time to poke fun of Drake’s massive bra collection.

Shepherd started by telling viewers that despite decades of unsolicited comments about her body from others, she did indeed get a breast reduction over the summer, making note that she did not get the procedure based on the input or opinions of other people, but because she was experiencing back pain and other physical issues as a result of her breasts (which she shared with the audience were a 42DD). She took time to explain how her breast size was something that she had struggled with her whole life and struggled with even more as she aged, making a series of hilarious jokes before describing some of the physical pain that she had endured before going to the doctor for a consultation and eventually going through with the procedure.

Shepherd then put Drake up on the screen behind her before making a series of jokes about the women who threw their bras at Drake, musing about how difficult it must be to take one off at a concert before going and getting a wheelbarrow full of her whole bras and spilling them out on stage and joking that someone needed to make sure that Drake got them for his collection.

Rapper/TV mogul Curtis Jackson is back again with his critically acclaimed series and he just brought two more notables to the big screen. Rapper 2 Chainz and singer/ songwriter Ne-Yo have been casted in recurring roles for season 3 of the hit series BMF.

Deadline Reports:  

2 Chainz will play “Stacks,” an Atlanta-born and bred distributor whose wisdom and stature command respect wherever he goes. Fiercely loyal and determined to provide for his family no matter the cost, Stacks lives by the street code and challenges Meech’s leadership style.

Ne-Yo will play “Rodney ‘Greeny’ Green,” a local Atlanta player who’s all about making the bag. Filled with swagger and an entrepreneurial spirit, there’s more than meets the eye with Greeny.

Season 2 of BMF currently airs on Starz at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S. and Canada.

Earlier this month Fif confirmed that the docu-drama’s season three was under way via Twitter.

Netflix’s new original series “Wednesday,” directed by Tim Burton, was released on Nov. 23. This eight-episode series offers a fresh take on “The Addams Family” TV and film adaptations that have been produced over the past 58 years. Less than two weeks later, the gothic style shown on screen has permeated youth fashion. 

Wednesday Addams, once played by deadpan Christina Ricci in the ’90s, has received a makeover. This time around, 20-year-old Jenna Ortega embodies a stoic Wednesday through gothic attire and a deeply sullen stare. Despite her peers, the character’s color palette does not stray from black and white, yet still captivates her audience. Crisp white shirts, layers of black tulle, and two braids are a small glimpse into Wednesday’s world. Now, Gen Z is channeling their new anti-heroine heroine with a revival of gothic attire. 

Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, whose credits include Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands, upheld the tradition of Wednesday in the latest series yet thoughtfully modernized her in a way that is relatable to our youth. Clothing resale app Depop reported a 1000% increase in searches for Wednesday-inspired outfits since the beginning of November. Atwood said, “I felt she should be part of today’s world. I wanted it to be a stylish contemporary look with which the audience would connect. I didn’t want her to be this odd person always draped in black.” Wednesday’s sharp-witted perspective on identity politics directly correlated to the strong-minded youth today. 

Even before the release of Wednesday, major fashion brands such as Prada, Gucci, Simone Rocha, Thom Browne, and Rick Owens have championed this dark gothic aesthetic through white shirts and layering of black charcoal materials. Once rooted in the extensive likeness of the Addams Family, a style aesthetic has moved off the screen and met the masses. The ghoulish origins of Wednesday’s look are now more accessible through this re-imagination.

Kelly Rowland addressed a booing audience when she presented the award for the Favorite Male R&B Artist
during this year’s 2022 American Music Awards. As Kelly announced Breezy’s name, the audience began to
voice their displeasure to which she responded, ““Excuse me, chill out. But I want to tell Chris thank you so
much for making great R&B music, and I want to tell him thank you for being an incredible performer.”

Chris Brown was due to headline a tribute to the late Michael Jackson to commemorate the 40th
anniversary of Thriller during the AMAs, but his performance was canceled at the last minute without
explanation. The decision drew backlash from other artist, like Jermaine Dupri who took to his Instagram
and warned that Black music is “in trouble”  while fellow R&B singer Tank demanded an explanation
from the AMAs.

The other nominees in the category were Brent Faiyaz, The Weeknd, Lucky Daye and Giveon.

After extending their partnership last summer, Netflix and accomplished producer Shonda Rhimes broaden their commitment with the launch of new inclusive programs for diversity, equity, inclusion, access initiatives and opportunities. The new programs are called The Producers Inclusion Initiative and The Ladder, which both will be supported by Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity.

The programs will allow graduates to be considered for job consideration on Shondaland and other Netflix productions. The Producers Inclusion Initiative is specifically designed as a nine-week virtual program to train indie producers, unit production managers, supervisors and first assistant directors, who come from those historically underrepresented communities. The program’s participants will learn from executives and key production department heads from Netflix, Shondaland and elsewhere in the industry with the express goal of minting qualified line producers for the studio system. In addition to monthly stipends while in the program, graduates will connect with folks at the two companies and others about potential gigs or other career development opportunities.

The Ladder, for its part, is set up to provide opportunities for people from marginalized groups who are looking to gain the kind of on-set experience and training that’s key to success in the film and TV business. Live in his hometown of Houston, Texas, popular comedian Ali Siddiq released a new one-hour stand-up special last month called “The Domino Effect” — exclusively on Youtube. “I’m dropping my new comedy special, Domino Effect, for FREE on YouTube,” Siddiq wrote in an Instagram caption with a microphone emoji.

The 49-years-old’s second comedy special, which follows his 2018 Comedy Central presented debut, Ali Siddiq: It’s Bigger Than These Bars, was filmed in front of a sold-out hometown crowd. In the new special, Siddiq tells hilarious true stories of growing up in Houston that include living with his hustling father that got him into illegal hustling because he wanted to buy a tracksuit that, inevitably, landed him in prison for six years. Four year’s in the making, The Domino Effect delivers more of the well-known comedian’s “growing pains” storytelling. Siddiq paints a perfect picture of Houston in the 80s when it comes to describing interactions with various street characters, so viewer discretion is advised.

Clips from Siddiq’s new special have accumulated over 107.7 million views on TikTok. Since the new stand-up’s release, Siddiq has been on the campaign trail, making guest appearances on high-profile podcasts such as Joe Rogan and Geto Boys Reloaded.
