If you love TikTok and all that comes with it, have fun now because it might not last too much longer. The U.S. government clashed with the popular platform’s lawyers in federal court over a law that could ban the app by mid-January. TikTok is arguing the measure is unconstitutional and the Justice Department claiming it is necessary to eliminate a national security risk.

The legal battle took place before a panel of three judges at a federal appeals court in Washington.

Andrew Pincus, representing TikTok, argued, “The law before this court is unprecedented and its effect would be staggering,” suggesting that it would impose speech limitations based on hypothetical future risks. Additionally, an attorney for content creators who joined the challenge compared the law to banning Americans from publishing on foreign-owned media outlets.

Get this, the law was signed by President Joe Biden in April, comes after years of concern in Washington about TikTok’s ties to China. The U.S. government make a serious claim that TikTok collects sensitive user data that could be accessed by the Chinese government and that the app’s proprietary algorithm could be manipulated to shape content.

What’s more, Daniel Tenny, an attorney for the Justice Department, argued, “The problem is that same data is extremely valuable to a foreign adversary trying to compromise the security of the United States.”

Pincus contended that Congress should have opted for transparency regarding potential propaganda rather than forcing a divestiture or ban.

Interestingly, the judges also pressed the Justice Department on First Amendment concerns. Judge Sri Srinivasan noted that government efforts to curb content manipulation raise alarms regarding free speech. Tenny responded that the law does not directly target TikTok users or creators, suggesting any impact on them would be indirect.

Anyway, TikTok maintains that it does not share U.S. user data with the Chinese government and that divestment is not a feasible option. The company argues that even if divestment were possible, TikTok would lose the technology that powers the app, reducing it to “a shell of its former self.”

TikTok here or gone, it’s part of a bigger construct with the impact of social media in our lives. And that is here to stay.

Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate former president Donald Trump, has been charged with two felonies. One count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Routh hid at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course, waiting to get a shot at the president. He made his first appearance in court in Florida with hands and feet shackled.

The Southern District of Florida’s U.S. District Attorney’s Office notes Routh spent nearly 12 hours near the course, scouting locations. He would attempt to escape in a Nissan SUV, which carried the license plate of a stolen Ford.

An eyewitness identified Routh once he was stopped. Body camera footage of the arrest is available below.

Before the chaos in Florida, you might have caught what happened at a recent Las Vegas rally, where Donald Trump misgendered reggaeton star Nicky Jam while introducing him.

Look, let’s call it what it is. Trump probably had no clue who Nicky Jam was, and calling him a woman and proceeding to call him (thinking he was a she) hot is just his typical misogyny toward women in plain sight.

Specifically, Trump said, “Latin music superstar Nicky Jam. Do you know Nicky? She’s hot.” The incident occurred during a Friday event at The Expo at World Market Center.

Trump weirdly and quickly corrected himself once Nicky Jam, Nick Rivera Caminero’s real name, approached the stage. “Oh, look, I’m glad he came up,” Trump remarked. Wearing a red “Make America Great Again” cap, Nicky Jam expressed his gratitude, telling Trump, “People that come from where I come from, they don’t meet the president. So, I’m lucky. We need you. We need you back, right? We need you to be the president.”

Weird. Just plain, weird.

Nicky Jam, originally from Massachusetts and raised in Puerto Rico, is one of several reggaeton stars, including Anuel AA and Justin Quiles, who have supported Trump’s presidential candidacy. Despite the misgendering, Nicky Jam seemed to brush off the incident, posting a photo with Trump on Instagram with the caption, “Nicky jam la potra la bichota,” along with laughing emojis. The phrase translates loosely to “the filly, the big shot,” a Latin slang term popularized by Colombian singer Karol G in her 2020 song “Bichota.”

Anyway, not everyone was happy about Jam’s endorsement, and he’s receiving plenty of fallout over his appearance at the rally.

Well, well, well, so the guy who rubber-stamped the so called ‘War on Drugs’ in 1971 did not think weed was a bad drug. Not surprising. Alright, in a newly unearthed recording from March 1973, way back in the day, former President Richard Nixon admitted that he knew marijuana was “not particularly dangerous.” Despite Buddy’s role in declaring the war on drugs and rejecting a federal commission’s recommendation to decriminalize it he said:

“Let me say, I know nothing about marijuana. I know that it’s not particularly dangerous, in other words, and most of the kids are for legalizing it. But on the other hand, it’s the wrong signal at this time.” He also criticized overly harsh penalties, stating that a 30-year sentence for cannabis was “ridiculous.”

Minnesota cannabis lobbyist Kurtis Hanna recently discovered the recordings in a trove of materials uploaded by the Richard Nixon Presidential Library. What else is in there? one might wonder.

What’s wild is Nixon’s comments contrast sharply with his public image as a staunch opponent of drug use. In 1971, he declared drug misuse “public enemy number one” and began the war on drugs. The following year, he dismissed the recommendations of the Shafer Commission, a group he had appointed to study marijuana laws. The commission had suggested decriminalizing marijuana, arguing that “criminal law is too harsh a tool to apply to personal possession” and that the harm of marijuana use was “not great enough to justify intrusion by the criminal law into private behavior.”

Nixon ignored the commission’s findings but privately acknowledged that marijuana penalties were excessive.

In another recording, the disgraced former President said:

“I have no problem that there should be an evaluation of penalties on it, and there should not be penalties that, you know, like in Texas that people get 10 years for marijuana. That’s wrong.” Despite these remarks, Nixon made it clear that he did not support full legalization, stating, “But we are not for legalization, I don’t want to encourage the drug thing.”

Hanna remarked, “President Nixon, the man who signed the bill into law to put marijuana in Schedule I, who kept it in Schedule I after the Shafer Commission report, and who created the Drug Enforcement Administration through administrative action didn’t believe marijuana was addictive or dangerous.”

What’s disturbing is Nixon’s domestic policy advisor, John Ehrlichman, later revealed in a 1994 interview that the war on drugs was partly a political strategy to target “the anti-war left and Black people.” He stated, “By getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and Blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

These very telling unearthed tapes shed light on Nixon’s complex and contradictory stance on marijuana, revealing that his public policy decisions were not always aligned with his private beliefs.

Who would have thought it? Apparently, Nixon did.

Okay, we won’t add too much color to this story. Let’s get right to it. Apparently, someone tried to creep on Trump’s golf outing with an AK-47 Sunday (September 15). In case you were preoccupied with your Sunday watching football or going to church or maybe even an end-of-summer cookout, the incident occurred when U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, where Trump was playing a round. 

The alleged perp’s name is Ryan Wesley Routh. Officials are describing this as an apparent second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump. We’re not sure if Buddy took a shot. That much seems hazy to various reports.

Routh first appeared in U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach. So get this, Routh, 58, appeared like what evs, as he faced charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. 

Check it, an agent reportedly spotted a rifle with a scope in the bushes and fired multiple shots, prompting the person to flee the area in a black Nissan. Routh was later arrested in a neighboring county. Officials recovered a rifle, two backpacks, and a GoPro camera near the scene.

Routh is due back in court for a bond hearing on September 23. The Martin County Sheriff’s Office is expected to release body camera footage of Routh’s arrest.

This time, Trump was not harmed in the incident. There were no “bloody” ears or anything, although his ears seem to heal faster than any human ears in history or recorded science.

He later commented on Truth Social, saying, “It was certainly an interesting day!”

Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris stated she was glad Trump was safe, remarking, “Violence has no place in America.” President Joe Biden commented that the Secret Service “needs more help.”

Numbers don’t lie, nor do trends, and the latter is looking favorable for Vice President Kamala Harris in her tight matchup with former President Trump.

So get this: a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris is leading former Republican President Donald Trump by 47% to 42% in the race for the 2024 presidential election.

Now, in case you’re counting—and we are—this five-point lead reflects an increase from her four-point advantage in August, which was largely attributed to her strong performance in a recent debate against Trump.

What’s more, among voters familiar with the debate, 53% believed Harris won, while only 24% thought Trump did. Many cited Trump’s lack of sharpness during the debate.

ICYMI, VP Harris effectively put Trump on the defensive, particularly highlighting his felony conviction related to falsified business records. That’s putting it lightly. She destroyed him.

Among voters who followed the debate, 52% said Harris demonstrated higher moral integrity than just 29% for Trump. Even within Republican circles, 31% of voters felt neither candidate won, and 14% believed Harris outperformed Trump.

When it comes to the most epic debate of debates, the face-off attracted 67.1 million viewers and showed Harris as more dignified and relatable to voters, with 56% favoring her demeanor compared to 24% for Trump. Moreover, 49% of voters felt that Harris would better understand their concerns, while only 18% felt the same about Trump.

Despite these findings, the race will ultimately be determined by the state-by-state Electoral College results—actually seven states: North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona.

Scared money doesn’t make money; in this case, scared candidates don’t want to face opponents who make them look horrible. Donald Trump announced he would not participate in a second debate with Vice President Kamala Harris following their first face-off in Philadelphia. Whoops.

Trump laughably claimed victory in the first debate, stating on Truth Social, “Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democrats’ Radical Left Candidate.” He pointed to Harris’ request for a second debate as evidence of his win, writing, “When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, ‘I WANT A REMATCH.’

Delusional, much?

As you and the rest of the world saw, multiple post-debate polls indicated that Harris was the perceived winner by a large margin, with many conservative commentators and some Trump supporters agreeing she outperformed him.

Unless you were under a rock after Trump’s debate with Joe Biden, his face off with Kamala Harris was Trump’s second in the 2024 election cycle. Biden’s irrefutably poor performance led to his withdrawal from the race, with Harris taking his place as the Democratic candidate.

That performance by President Biden might’ve just been the greatest thing to happen to democracy.

Despite Harris’ call for another debate, Trump made it clear there would be no rematch, saying, “KAMALA SHOULD FOCUS ON WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE DURING THE LAST ALMOST FOUR YEAR PERIOD. THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!”

Listen, loser energy.

Speaking at a rally in Charlotte, North Carolina, Harris emphasized the importance of another debate, saying, “I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate, because this election and what is at stake could not be more important.”

Kansas City Chiefs suer star quarterback Patrick Mahomes wants no part of the political discourse. Well, sort of doesn’t. 

The Super Bowl champion stated on Wednesday that he will not endorse any presidential candidate, including Donald Trump or Kamala Harris, despite Trump’s continued comments about Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, being a supporter of his campaign. 

Here’s what he said:

“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” Mahomes said, focusing instead on encouraging people to register to vote and do their own research. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It’s to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family.”

In case you missed the earth shattering news, his comments came after Taylor Swift, who is dating Mahomes’ teammate Travis Kelce, publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for president. 

Trump responded to Swift’s endorsement by saying in a Fox News interview, “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better, if you want to know the truth. She’s a big Trump fan. I like Brittany. I think Brittany is great.”

Only Trump would compare Brittany Mahomes to Taylor Swift in a conversation about political endorsements. Weird.

Trump had previously referenced Brittany Mahomes after she briefly liked an Instagram post outlining the GOP platform. He posted on Truth Social: 

“I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me.” Brittany has since remained politically quiet, only responding to critics on social media, saying, “To be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep-rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood.”

Get this, when asked about Trump’s remarks about his wife, Mahomes sidestepped the question, emphasizing his focus on his family. “At the end of the day, it’s about me and my family and how we treat other people.”

Of course he championed his wife, hightlighting the charitable work he and Brittany do in the community, saying, “I think you see Brittany does a lot in the community. I do a lot in the community to help bring people up, and give people an opportunity to use their voice. In political times people are going to use stuff here and there, but I can’t let that affect how I go about my business every single day of my life.”

While Mahomes declined to speak about his personal political views, he emphasized the importance of unity.

Unity. Yeah. Maybe he should pick a side. Just sayin.

If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.

Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. If you caught the most critical debate in a generation then you probably noticed Trump wasn’t all the way there. The former President spewed unfounded and inflammatory conspiracy theories, in typical Trumpy fashion. Here’s what he said, among many, many weird things … He claimed that Haitian immigrants were eating the pets of American citizens. 

Eating the pets, he said. Eating YOUR pets. Can’t make this up.

He felt the need to say this wild claim as he criticized Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration’s handling of immigration.

Trump’s remarks, made on the national stage, hurling these crazy claims and accusing immigrants – naturally, without evidence – of killing and consuming cats and dogs, yes, that part echoes seriously harmful stereotypes.

But racism is a thing. And Trump’s been accused of it. Time and time again. 

Get this: The baseless rumor appears to have originated online, as all things do in this day and age. Actually, it was on a Facebook group in Springfield, Ohio. Local authorities have denied any truth to the claims, with Springfield’s city manager stating that there is no credible evidence to suggest such incidents have occurred. 

Check this out: Unlike the CNN debate between Trump and Biden, there was some fact-checking going on last night, in real time.  

ABC moderator David Muir quoted local officials who found no proof to support these alarming accusations.

Womp, womp. 

However, Trump doubled down: 

“What they have done to our country by allowing these millions and millions of people to come into our country… look at what’s happening to towns all over the United States. A lot of towns don’t want to talk about it because they’re so embarrassed by it in Springfield.” He went on to claim, “They’re eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there, and this is what’s happening in our country, and it’s a shame.”

Wild. 

Following the debate, which many pundits and journalist on both sides of the aisle felt Kamala handedly won, disavowed the remarks. 

Many Democrats, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, condemned Trump’s vile lies.

Ellison said: ”The baseless claim that Haitian immigrants in Ohio are eating pets is not only a lie, it’s a racist lie designed to dehumanize Haitian immigrants as savages, which Trump does all the time.”

Trump’s ramblings at the debate are a pattern of fear-mongering and misinformation in political discourse. But he’s no stranger to it. This time around, there was a candidate standing opposite him ready for his nonsense, a credit to Vice President Harris who was clearly the only stable politician on that stage.

That was back in 2017, on the 20th anniversary of Biggie’s death. But it’s not the Brooklyn lawmaker’s only hip-hop reference. Jeffries, now the House Democratic Leader, took the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and delivered these Fat Joe lyrics:

“Nothing can stop us. We’re all the way up.” 

His energetic DNC speech garnered news headlines, and the next day, Jeffries posted “Brooklyn Stand Up.” Before Jeffries’ DNC appearance, The Source caught up with the House Minority Leader. 

The Source: Clearly the young people are energized in this race and the youth will be an important part of this election. And they have vowed to make their voices heard. Can you please tell us about some of the strategies and some of the plans and the importance of the youth vote for this election?

Congressman Jeffries: “Well I think that we’ve always had a strong case to make to young people. That the issues that young people care about have been the issues that House Democrats, Senate Democrats, President Biden, Vice President Harris have been working on. Like combating the climate crisis with the fierce urgency of now and delivering the largest investment in combating the climate crisis in the history of the world. Passing gun safety legislation for the first time in 30 years. Because the young people of America deserve a great public school education free of gun violence. And that is what they are demanding. That is what we are working on to deliver. And of course the young people of America care about making sure that their freedom to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions are preserved.” 

All of those issues are at stake in this Presidential election. Democrats are hoping young people will turn out in big numbers and vote blue down the ballot. If so, not only can the Democratic Party win the White House, but they can also become the majority in the House and make Jeffries House Speaker, among other party victories. Here’s NY Congressman Adriano Espaillat. 

“The NY delegation of course, we have Hakeem Jeffries who stands to be the next speaker. We have Grace Meng, who stands to be the next Chair of the Asian American Pacific Caucus. Jeffries became the first Black Congressional Party Leader in US History when his colleagues unanimously elected him in 2023. With Democratic control of the House, Jeffries would serve as the first-ever Black Speaker. It would be a historic shift in the American story, one that has its roots in Brooklyn and the hip-hop community. 

“We know that he went from negative to positive,” Jeffries said. “And emerged as one of the world’s most important hip-hop stars.” 

And with this election, Jeffries could emerge as one of the nation’s most potent Democratic stars.

Speaking with CNN, Harris expressed pride in running alongside Tim Walz for the presidency, advocating for a “new way forward” that prioritizes unity and optimism. Whelp Vice President Kamala Harris finally gave her first live interview on Thursday since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, albeit with her well liked running mate Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The surging presidential nominee outlined her 2025 agenda and addressed topics she had previously avoided. 

The interview was conducted by CNN’s Dana Bash and drew immediate almost real time criticism from her Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

In the interview, Harris emphasized her pragmatic approach, balancing the defense of the Biden-Harris administration’s legacy with her vision for the future. “I believe it is important to build consensus and it is important to find a common place of understanding of where we can actually solve problems,” Harris stated.

Let’s make one thing clear. Bash was not bashful. This was not a softball interview and the interviewer seemingly tried to trip up VP Harris. 

But, guess what? It didn’t work.

Here are a few takeaways from the 27-minute Interview:

1. Defending Her Evolving Policy Stances

Harris addressed changes in her policy positions since her 2019 presidential campaign, where she had endorsed progressive policies like “Medicare for All” and the Green New Deal. She clarified that while her stances on certain issues have evolved, her core values remain unchanged. “The most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” Harris said, highlighting her belief in the reality of the climate crisis and the steps taken under the Inflation Reduction Act.

On fracking, she confirmed her commitment not to ban it, referencing her 2020 vice presidential debate promise and her recent tiebreaking vote that increased leases for fracking. Harris stated, “I cast the tiebreaking vote that actually increased leases for fracking as vice president.”

Regarding immigration, she stressed the importance of enforcing laws against unlawful border crossings. “I believe there should be consequence,” she asserted, criticizing Trump for blocking bipartisan border security efforts. “My value around what we need to do to secure our border — that value has not changed.”

2. Addressing Trump’s Attacks on Her Racial Identity

When asked about Trump’s repeated false claims about her racial identity, Harris dismissed his comments without engaging directly. “Same old, tired playbook,” she responded. “Next question, please.”

Yup, shut down that bait real quick.

3. Her ‘Day One’ Agenda

Harris outlined her priorities for the first day of her presidency, focusing on what she calls an “opportunity economy.” She emphasized her commitment to reducing costs for Americans, particularly in essential areas like groceries. “Prices, in particular for groceries, are still too high. The American people know it. I know it,” she said. “Which is why my agenda includes what we need to do to bring down the price of groceries — for example, dealing with an issue like price gouging.”

Her plan also includes extending the child tax credit and offering a $25,000 tax credit for first-time homebuyers to address housing affordability. When questioned why these measures haven’t been implemented during her vice presidency, Harris defended the Biden administration’s record but acknowledged that “there’s more to do.”

Harris also stood by her previous comments supporting Biden’s ability to serve another term, despite his withdrawal from the race in July under mounting party pressure.

What ya’ll think? How’d she do? In our opinion she looked presidential, competent and sane. Unlike the other guy.

First, the estate of legendary musician Isaac Hayes has secured an emergency court hearing in its ongoing legal battle against former President Donald Trump for the unauthorized use of Hayes’s iconic song, “Hold On, I’m Coming,” at Trump’s rallies.

The news came in after Isaac Hayes III, the singer’s son, announced the emergency hearing via social media on August 23, revealing that the legal proceedings are scheduled for September 3. He later confirmed that Trump and his team were officially served with the lawsuit and notice of the hearing.

Get this: the lawsuit, filed after numerous warnings to cease the unauthorized use of the song, accuses Trump and his campaign of infringing on Hayes’s copyright 134 times between 2022 and 2024.

ICYMI, the estate demands that Trump stop using the song, remove all related videos, issue a public disclaimer, and pay $3 million in licensing fees. Failure to meet these demands by August 16 prompted the estate to escalate the matter to court.

If you’ve been keeping track, the case is part of a broader pattern of legal challenges Trump has faced over his use of music at political events without permission. Artists including Adele, The Rolling Stones, and Rihanna have also objected to their music used by Trump’s campaign.

James L. Walker Jr., the attorney representing Hayes’s estate, had this to say:

“It is most unfortunate that these artists have publicly posted on their social media and asked Team Trump and other candidates not to use their music — and yet their candidates keep using their music,” Walker said in a statement.

The economy. Who’s better for Americans? Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris? It’s clear to us, but let’s dive in on a few things …

VP Harris’s campaign is centered around fiscal responsibility. She advocates for substantial tax increases to fund her policy initiatives while criticizing former President Donald Trump’s economic agenda for lacking a clear plan to cover its costs.

Get this: Harris’s proposals include raising approximately $5 trillion in new tax revenue over the next decade to finance $2 trillion in spending on issues like housing, childcare, and prescription drug costs.

Now, in contrast, and he’s one big contrast, Trump is proposing $5 trillion in tax cuts and spending but has only outlined about $3 trillion in new revenue, primarily through tariffs. James Singer, a spokesperson for the Harris campaign, described Trump’s plan as “an inflation and deficit bomb” in a statement to NBC News, prompting a response from the Trump campaign, which accused Harris of imposing a “Biden-Harris inflation tax” on Americans. Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody’s Analytics, supports the view that Harris is taking a more fiscally disciplined approach than Trump. “Historically, Republicans have been the party focused on fiscal responsibility, but here we see a reversal,” Zandi noted.

He emphasized that Harris’s plan signals a commitment to reducing the deficit, which could attract moderate Republicans and center-right voters, especially in key swing states. Harris’s strategy aligns with the $5 trillion in tax increases proposed in the White House budget released in March. These increases include raising the corporate tax rate from 21% to 28%, reversing Trump’s tax cuts for high-income earners, and introducing new taxes on wealthier Americans.

Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty…

So the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group, estimates that Harris’s initiatives would cost around $1.7 trillion, leaving approximately $3 trillion for deficit reduction over the next decade. Zandi also supports this estimate, noting that such a large deficit reduction package is unprecedented.

However, Marc Goldwein, senior policy director at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, cautioned that Harris’s campaign has not yet fully outlined how the $3 trillion in revenue will be allocated. He also pointed out that extending Trump’s tax cuts for lower-income earners in 2025 could impact Harris’s revenue projections. In contrast, Trump’s economic plan includes extending his 2017 tax cuts, eliminating payroll taxes on Social Security, removing taxes on tips, and increasing the child tax credit to $5,000.

According to Zandi, these initiatives would add about $5 trillion to the federal deficit. When asked how he would finance these plans, Trump responded by promising “tremendous growth,” a claim Goldwein dismissed as unrealistic, stating, “You’re not going to grow your way out of this.” Trump’s primary method for generating revenue is through new tariffs, including a 10% tariff on all imported goods and a 60% tariff on Chinese imports.

The Tax Policy Center estimates that these tariffs could raise around $2.8 trillion, but they would likely reduce U.S. imports by 15%, potentially harming economic growth. Goldwein added that while some of Trump’s proposed tax breaks could stimulate the economy, his tariffs and mass deportation policies might counteract those benefits.

So what does this all mean? As the election approaches, both campaigns are gearing up for a significant fiscal debate. Congress is expected to address major tax issues next year, particularly as parts of the 2017 Trump tax cuts are set to expire at the end of 2025. The outcome of this debate will likely have lasting implications for the U.S. economy, depending on which aspects of the tax cuts are extended or allowed to expire.

In an unprecedented move, more than 200 Republicans who previously worked for former President George W. Bush, the late Sen. John McCain, and Sen. Mitt Romney have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president. The endorsement, announced in an open letter obtained exclusively by USA TODAY, includes 238 signatures, marking a significant political shift.

The letter, which follows the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, showcases the growing discontent within the GOP. At least five former aides to President George H.W. Bush also signed the letter. This group echoes a similar coalition of anti-Trump Republicans who supported President Joe Biden in 2020.

The letter states, “We reunite today, joined by new George H.W. Bush alumni, to reinforce our 2020 statements and, for the first time, jointly declare that we’re voting for Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Walz this November.”

Signatories include prominent figures such as Mark Salter and Chris Koch, former chiefs of staff to McCain; Jean Becker, longtime chief of staff for George H.W. Bush; and David Nierenberg, Romney’s 2012 campaign finance chair. They cite concerns over Donald Trump’s leadership and the potential impact of his policies, notably Project 2025.

The group calls on moderate Republicans and independents to “take a brave stand once more” and support Harris in the upcoming election. The Harris campaign has actively highlighted its support from anti-Trump Republicans, launching a “Republicans for Harris” group and featuring Republican speakers at the convention.

The letter concludes with a warning about the consequences of another Trump presidency, both domestically and abroad, urging voters to prioritize the country’s future over party loyalty. This endorsement represents a growing trend of Republican leaders opposing Trump’s re-election.

Let’s say it again if you missed the headline … Numbers don’t lie. In a recent national poll shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading former President Donald Trump by 7 points in the race for the White House. The poll, conducted by Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) and Braun Research between August 17 and 20, surveyed 801 registered voters and found that 50% of respondents support Harris, while 43% back Trump. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.

The very real poll reveals strong partisan divides: 95% of Democrats support Harris, while only 2% of Republicans do. Among independents, 38% favor Harris, with 33% backing Trump. In contrast, Trump supports 95% of Republicans and 3% of Democrats. 

Get this: The new poll comes as Harris continues her presidential campaign. She officially accepted the Democratic nomination at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday. She entered the race shortly after President Joe Biden announced his decision to exit on July 21. 

Although Harris is definitely leading in national polls, the race remains tight in key battleground states, which are critical to securing victory in the Electoral College. 

The FDU poll was conducted while independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was still in the race. Kennedy, who officially withdrew on Friday and endorsed Trump, had been polling at about 5%, which could influence the outcome given the close race between Trump and Harris. Kennedy. Funny. Sorry, but after that bear story or the worm eating the brain thing, he just is.

Okay, not all polls show Harris with the upper hand. A Rasmussen Reports poll released Thursday found Trump leading Harris by 3 points, with 49% of likely voters supporting Trump and 46% backing Harris. This survey, conducted from August 15 to August 18 to 21, polled 1,893 likely voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

In a time when cultural wars are at the forefront of the news, here’s a feel-good story. DeKalb County just honored the late civil rights leader and Georgia Congressman John Lewis by unveiling a new historic monument in Decatur Square. This is a big deal for a bunch of reasons, but most importantly, the new statue honors equality and civil rights where there was once a stark reminder of hatred and division.

Get this: The bronze statue, created by internationally renowned sculptor Basil Watson, is positioned in front of the Historic DeKalb County Courthouse. The Confederate monument that it is replacing stood for over 110 years. Unreal. 

Crews carefully installed the 12-foot-tall statue. 

During the installation, Watson said: ”It’s exciting to see it going up and exciting for the city because of what he represents and what it’s replacing.”

This statue is four years in the making and involved a global search for the quintessential artist before the John Lewis Commemorative Task Force selected Watson. 

If you are not aware, John Lewis was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement who was celebrated for advocating “good trouble”—the idea of standing up for justice and equality, even when it means challenging the status quo. This statue commemorates his legacy and symbolically replaces a monument that represents the opposite values.

Now, about that Confederate monument. It is known as “The Lost Cause” and was erected in 1908 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the same year Georgia passed an amendment to disenfranchise African American voters. Again, it’s unbelievable it stood there for 110 years. 

The monument became increasingly controversial and was ultimately declared a public nuisance by a judge in June 2020, just a month before Lewis’ death. Thankfully, Lewis was alive when that declaration was made.

The judge stated: ”In short, the Confederate obelisk has become an increasingly frequent target of graffiti and vandalism, a figurative lightning rod for friction among citizens, and a potential catastrophe that could happen at any time if individuals attempt to forcibly remove or destroy it.”

See what’s wild is Georgia state law prohibits the relocation or alteration of Confederate monuments. SMH. But the brave judge deemed the removal necessary to prevent further public discord. As the stone obelisk was lifted from its base, onlookers, kept at a distance by sheriff’s deputies, jeered and chanted, “Just drop it!”

The proud new statue of John Lewis now stands in its place, marking a long overdue and significant shift in the historical narrative of Decatur Square and honoring a man who dedicated his life to fighting for civil rights and justice.

Times are changing, but there’s more work to be done.

Whelp, in an expected move Robert F. Kennedy Jr. just announced that he is suspending his 2024 presidential campaign. That means it’s a wrap. He’s running out of money so his weird independent run for POTUS is over. 

But get this, RFK, Jr. is now endorsing Republican nominee Donald Trump. Good for him. They are probably made for each other tbh.

Anyway, Kennedy, was polling at 4% in a recent Ipsos survey. The Federal Election Commission filings revealed that his campaign owed nearly $3.5 million while having just $3.9 million on hand. In other words his campaign was pretty much broke.

Ge this, in a virtual address on Friday, Kennedy explained his decision. He would remove his name from the ballot in about 10 key battleground states, saying, “where my presence would be a spoiler.” RFK he has already begun this process in states like Arizona and Pennsylvania.

Earlier in the week, speculation grew about Kennedy’s potential exit from the race grew after his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, mentioned that they were considering two options: staying in the race or “walking away right now and joining forces with Donald Trump.” 

Trump is on deck to hold a rally in Glendale, Arizona, shortly after Kennedy’s announcement, with his campaign hinting at a “special guest” appearance, leading to speculation that Kennedy might join him on stage. 

Trump actually praised Kennedy earlier this week as “a brilliant” and “very smart guy,” a hard shift from his earlier criticism in April, when he called Kennedy “far more liberal than anyone running as a Democrat.” 

So that means Kennedy kissed the ring, and Trump needs every vote he can get so now RFK Jr. is a good guy. Can’t make this stuff up. 

Well, there you have it. Trump has RFK Jr.’s support. Sounds like some highly entertaining rallies are on the horizon.

Anyway, ”Olitz” fans were thrilled to see Kerry Washington and her “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn reunite on stage at the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Thursday night.

You may know, Kerry Washington, who famously portrayed crisis manager Olivia Pope in the Shonda Rhimes political drama, took the stage to rally support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris and encourage people to vote. Addressing the crowd, Washington said, “As I stand here, I know that there are folks on social media already saying ‘Go back to your TV show. Shut up and act.’ But I am not here tonight as an actor. I am here as a mother, as a daughter, as a proud union member.” Her words were met with enthusiastic applause.

She continued, “I am here as the granddaughter of immigrants, as a Black woman descended from enslaved people. I am here tonight because I am an American and because I am a voter and because we, the people, are stronger when all our voices are heard.”

After her speech, Tony Goldwyn, who played President Fitzgerald Grant III on “Scandal”, joined Washington on stage to take a selfie video with her and the excited crowd. Washington asked the crowd, “Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?” to which they responded with a resounding “Yes.”

Of course, the reunion sparked nostalgia among fans, with one writing, “Let me go re-watch “Scandal” cause it’s giving NOSTALGIA,” and another saying, “Olitz on #TGIT? The country needs it! I would be even more grateful if the rest of the gladiators made an appearance…and Papa Pope.”

We hear the fans and we’re here for it.

Since “Scandal” ended, Washington and Goldwyn have remained close, often exchanging friendly jabs on social media and in interviews. Their on-screen relationship, known for its intensity and complexity, continues to resonate with fans.

Whelp Beyoncé did not perform at the DNC. 

Rumors began to swirl for days about the likelihood of Beyoncé possibly performing at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. 

On Thursday TMZ made a report she would appear on the event’s final day, citing anonymous sources. In fairness they are rarely wrong about anything and normally are the first to report, well, everything.  

However, this time a Beyoncé representative quickly debunked the report, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “the report of a performance is untrue” and clarified that she was never scheduled to attend. 

Get this, the Washington Post confirmed with a source close to convention organizers that no special guest, including Beyoncé, was planned for Thursday.

Oh but the campaign may have added some lighter fluid to the fire. 

Speculation about a potential Beyoncé performance intensified earlier in the week, fueled by a tweet from White House political director Emily Ruiz, who posted a bee emoji, a nod to Beyoncé’s fan base, the “BeyHive.” 

Ruiz later backtracked, and light heartedly claimed her 6-year-old took her phone. When asked about the rumors on CBS Mornings, Democratic Party Chair Jaime Harrison did not confirm or deny Beyoncé’s involvement, only mentioning, “Everyday, she’s in here singing ‘Freedom.’”

Despite the wild rumors, Beyoncé did not make an appearance, surprising many. Although she hadn’t endorsed Kamala Harris as she did with Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama in previous elections, she did grant the Harris-Walz campaign exclusive rights to use her song “Freedom” from her “Lemonade” album. This song has been Harris’ walkout anthem at campaign rallies.

The song is working. Maybe a performance would have been a bit much for everyday Americans who tuned in and might be on the fence about voting for Harris.

The DNC continues to raise the roof at the United Center in Chicago. It turned up even higher after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) went in on the podium. He representative from New York City, dropped a powerful speech that not only intertwined heartfelt support for Vice President Kamala Harris and sharp criticism of Donald Trump but some relatable anecdotes from well, the neighborhood. 

Get this, his address, is Jeffries’ first major appearance on the national stage since elevating to House Democratic leader. 

He laid out a compelling case, praising Harris as a true champion and added clear cut warning about Trump, whom he described, and others for that matter, as a clear and present threat to American democracy and fundamental freedoms. 

Let’s get one thing straight. Trump is just that. Project 2025 is the playbook, whether the former president owns it or not. 

Jeffries framed Harris as a relatable advocate for everyday Americans. He contrasted her with Trump, whom he called “a chaos agent who is focused on himself.” 

The speech, was part sermon, with some hilarious bars, more on that below and a rallying cry for the Democratic base.

But wait, he knew that it will take more than just Democrats to defeat Trump and if you listened closely he was speaking to all Americans, especially the younger generation.

More on that later …

If you’re tuned in on social for the best soundbites of the DNC, you may have already come across some of the more memorable moments of his speech. Jeffries likened Trump to an unwanted ex-boyfriend who refuses to accept a breakup. Think about that. Trump’s behavior is  a bit obsessive and feels creep ex-ish. 

“Donald Trump is like an old boyfriend, who you broke up with but he just won’t go away,” Jeffries declared. “He has spent the last four years spinning the block, trying to get back into a relationship with the American people. Bro, we broke up with you for a reason.”

Jeffries then went in on Trump’s record in the White House. He condemned the GOP’s tax cuts as a “scam” that primarily benefited the wealthy, and criticizing Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic as a “failure” for the country. He threw a barrage of verbal shots. They were landing and the crowd felt it. 

Again he accused Trump of trying to “destroy our democracy” with the January 6th Capitol attack. Which we must remind you that Trump is facing federal charges for that very attack. 

Jeffries lambasted the systematic appointment of three ultra conservative Supreme Court justices, who “destroyed Roe v. Wade at the expense of women’s freedoms.”

He cleverly kept returning to his analogy, where Jeffries reiterated, “We broke up with you for a reason. Donald Trump can spin the block all he wants, but there’s no reason for us to ever get back together. Been there, done that, we’re not going back.”

That part!

Jeffries wasn’t just shading Trump. He dedicated a swath of his speech to laying out how House Democrats would work closely with the Harris administration to take on key party priorities that will ultimately benefit all Americans. These platforms include combating climate change, reforming immigration laws, expanding Medicare, and restoring abortion protections lost after the repeal of “Roe v. Wade.”

Jeffries has a signature style. It’s almost melodic. 

He even found an entry point for Biblical references that resonated deeply with the audience. That’s America. Faith and belief, by and large and Jeffries wasn’t playing during those moments. 

The speech was grandiose but after his big moment, he had a more intimate press conference where he platformed to a smaller audience and spoke on the important of issues affecting young people in America. The Source was in attendance and we got the scoop.

“(Democrats are) passing gun safety legislation for the first time in 30 years” and “young people in America deserve a great public school education free of gun violence that is what they are demanding that is what we are working hard to deliver.”

Jeffries went on to say “Of course the young people in America care about making sure their freedom to make their own reproductive health care decisions are preserved and that we don’t turn back the clock which is what the extreme MAGA Republicans want to do, because of the fall of Roe v Wade.”

This discussion felt more like a fireside chat than your run of the mill press conference. Here’s what he believe, Hakeem Jeffries is serious. His convictions are real and he cares about the course of our great nation. He understands our freedoms are sacred and should be protected. He knows the only candidate to move us forward is Vice President Kamala Harris and as for Trump, he said it best:

Whelp, that was quick. Beyoncé is reportedly preparing to send a cease-and-desist letter to Donald Trump’s campaign following the unauthorized use of her song “Freedom.” 

ICYMI, on Tuesday, August 20, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung weirdly shared a 13-second video on social media showing Trump deplaning in Michigan. In the clip, Trump is seen walking the tarmac and giving a two-handed fist pump, with Beyoncé’s 2016 hit song “Freedom” from her “Lemonade” album playing in the background.

Like we said yesterday, weird. 

As we expected, a source close to Beyoncé informed “Rolling Stone” that Trump’s campaign did not seek or receive permission to use the track. 

Ya’ll probably know Vice President Kamala Harris recently adopted “Freedom” as her unofficial campaign anthem after stepping up as the Democratic party’s lead for the upcoming election. According to CNN, Beyoncé permitted Harris. Trump doesn’t have that green light.

The Trump campaign’s use of the song has drawn criticism. One person tweeted, “Freedom is a song written about slavery and police brutality against POC. How disgusting and despicable for any of you to use it to support that convicted felon.”

Recently, the estate of the late singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Trump over the alleged unauthorized use of the song “Hold On, I’m Coming” at Republican rallies and in campaign videos. The estate’s lawyers claim Trump owes $150,000 for each unauthorized use of the song, which they allege has been used over 100 times. Insert chuckle because that campaign is making some weird decisions that might end up costing them a few bucks.

Trump is no stranger to swagger-jacking without permission. He has a history of using popular music without the go ahead, dating back to his 2016 campaign, where he frequently played Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” at his rallies. Shortly afterward, the 16-time Grammy winner informed Trump that he did not have her permission to use the song at his events.

When is this guy going to learn?

Steve Harvey is not for BS regarding Dr. Umar slandering his name.

Dr. Umar Johnson recently sparked controversy by accusing Steve Harvey and other prominent Black celebrities of accepting payments to pressure the Black community into voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in the upcoming election. 

Let’s just stop right here. Dr. Umar is an interesting character. His brand is undeniably akin to stirring controversy, generally by challenging his so-called influential peers’, albeit their blackness, intentions within the Black community, or what he thinks Black people should do as a community. The real question we’d like to know is what ever happened to that school of his he was building. We’ll wait.

Steve Harvey, however, stood on his ten toes and addressed these claims during his radio show, ”The Steve Harvey Morning Show.”

“Brother Umar, let me say this, man. I absolutely love some of the things you say. I really, really do. Some of the stuff, I don’t always agree with, but ain’t nobody got to agree with everything I say,” Harvey remarked. “But let me clear the air on something. You can’t hire Steve Harvey for $10,000. I don’t know where you got that number from, but you can’t offer Steve Harvey $10,000 to do nothing. You can go through the industry and ask about me.”

Harvey went on to say: “I don’t do nothing, nothing, for $10,000. Don’t even insult the brand equity that I built over these 30 years on television. I just don’t, man. I’m doing this absolutely free of charge because I want this country to be in her hands as opposed to Donald Trump’s hands. That’s who I do it for.”

Harvey also mentioned Rickey Smiley and D.L. Hughley, saying they shared his stance and declared they are “running the airwaves of Black radio.” He went on to insist he has not “received a single dollar from anybody to do what I do. I’m doing it gladly. And I’m going to freely have her on here again and again and again. I am going to freely ask soft a”” questions. I am going to freely lodge the basketball so she can slam dunk all these questions. I am going to freely sit here and agree.”

Harvey concluded with: “The Black vote is not for sale. But it is a very important block of votes that can control the outcome of this election. And if I have my way, and it’s within God’s will, she will be the next President of the United States. Because the alternative, it’s only two people running for President. If somebody offered you $10,000, you should’ve took it. Ain’t nobody offer me nothing. Please don’t insult me. It cost way more for me to turn this mic on.”

This week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago is more than just a compelling program; it’s a crucial opportunity to harness the growing energy behind the Harris-Walz ticket and turn it into volunteer power in crucial battleground states.

“This week, Vice President Harris’ vision and story will be on full display for millions of American voters in key states. But our campaign isn’t stopping there — in fact, we’re redoubling our efforts to aggressively earn the support of the voters that will decide this election,” said Battleground States Director Dan Kanninen. “On the stage at the Democratic National Convention and on the ground via thousands of organizing trainings, phone banks, and watch parties across the country, this campaign is leveraging the moment to break through and meet voters where they are — exactly the work needed to win a tough and close election this November.”

Team Harris-Walz organized a Weekend of Action to kick off the Convention, hosting over 2,800 events in pivotal states. Over 10,000 volunteers participated, making nearly 900,000 calls and knocking on almost 150,000 doors, resulting in contact with over 1 million voters. This massive mobilization is being sustained throughout the week with daily organizing efforts, including an “All Out Shift Out” competition, where battleground teams compete to recruit the most volunteers. On the first night alone, the campaign secured 24,352 volunteer shifts in battleground states.

On Monday, the campaign launched go.kamalaharris.com, a centralized platform for volunteers to find events, join online communities, and access organizing tools. The site is being promoted throughout the arena and during primetime programming, directing supporters watching from home to text JOIN to 30330 for immediate involvement opportunities.

Tuesday saw statewide and national training sessions, equipping supporters with the skills to organize and mobilize within their communities.

On Wednesday, the campaign will hold its largest phone banking event, with nearly 400 phone banks and 4,000 volunteers making calls across battleground states.

Thursday will feature 500 watch parties across all 50 states, offering supporters a chance to connect and celebrate the Harris-Walz ticket. This gathering provides another opportunity for the campaign to leverage the week’s momentum as they head into the final stretch, aiming to deliver a win for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz.

This week marks the campaign’s most significant mobilization effort yet as Team Harris-Walz prepares to drive home its message in the crucial weeks ahead.

Michelle Obama currently carries the trophy for best speech at the Democratic National Convention. Speaking at the United Center on Tuesday night ahead of her husband, Mrs. Obama’s message was clear: “Hope is making a comeback.”

During her time on stage, Mrs. Obama highlighted the resume of Kamala Harris as the source of the reinvigoration into the democratic party and America.

Part of the “hope” resurgence is the desire to dispatch Donald Trump permanently. In a pointed criticism, Obama highlighted Harris’s challenge, as she and her husband had previously experienced it.

“[Trump] did everything in his power to try to make people fear us,” Obama said. “See, his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working and highly educated, successful people who happen to be Black.”

Former president Barack Obama had time. Returning to his hometown of Chicago to speak at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Obama had two objectives in his evening closing speech: endorse Kamala Harris and tell the truth about Donald Trump.

Taking the stage in the local 10 p.m. hour on Tuesday night, Obama’s support of Harris was loud and clear: “America is ready for a new chapter. America’s ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris.”

Throughout his speech, Obama laid out the support for his Harris-Walz ticket as figures who align with the country’s future. He also laid into Donald Trump, a “78-year-old billionaire who has not stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago.” Obama highlighted Trump’s behavior is getting worse, citing the former president’s affinity for name-calling and obsession with crowd sizes.

Some spokesperson for former President Trump’s campaign recently commandeered Beyoncé’s hit song “Freedom” in a social media video featuring Trump. This raised eyebrows due to the song’s official connection to Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign. 

The video, posted by Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung on the platform X, shows Trump walking off a plane in Michigan with “Freedom” playing in the background. We’re not sure if he did his normal waive to no one but back to the post …

Cheung captioned the post with, “Touchdown in Michigan!! @realDonaldTrump.”

With that song? Weird.

As you may know, the use of “Freedom” is particularly noteworthy because Vice President Harris has frequently used the record throughout her campaign. Officially.

As several outlets reported, Beyoncé granted the Harris campaign permission to use the song during her presidential campaign. 

Harris has been prominently featuring the track in several campaign events and even in her first ad when she announced her bid for the White House last month. 

To illustrate how weird it is that Cheung used that song, on the first day of the Democratic National Convention, Democrats released a new ad that included an acappella version of “Freedom.” 

It’s VP Harris’ campaign theme song in so many words.

The anthem, powerful for a myriad of reasons, references the history of slavery and police brutality. Beyoncé is singing about breaking chains and Kendrick Lamar is rapping about his experiences with police and calls for social justice. Drake did say always rapping about freeing – KIDDING. We won’t go there.

When asked about the video featuring “Freedom,” Cheung responded simply with, “Freedom, freedom!”

Like we said, weird.

Tonight, at the Democratic National Convention, a powerful video featured former MAGA pundit Rich Logis, who took a bold step by putting country over party to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking directly to Republicans and Independents across the nation, Logis shared his journey from being a staunch Trump supporter to realizing the damage caused by the former president’s leadership.

“My name is Rich Logis. I live in Florida, and until two years ago, I was a full-fledged member of MAGA. I believed Trump,” Logis admitted. As a former MAGA pundit with his own podcast, Logis described the fear that drove his support for Trump, believing that Democrats were destroying the country.

However, Logis explained that the pandemic was a turning point. “When the pandemic hit, we needed leadership, but we were given almost nothing. It was a major betrayal to the country,” he said. Disillusioned by Trump’s inaction and lies, Logis stepped out of the MAGA echo chamber and saw the truth for himself.
