Whelp, we didn’t have that on our football picks bingo card. But Kirk Cousins apparently did after he led the Atlanta Falcons to a stunning 22-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Cousins delivered a quick 70-yard touchdown drive in just 65 seconds.

Get this, the Falcons trailing by six points and only 1:39 remaining in the game, when Cousins orchestrated a masterful drive that culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Drake London. This score put the Falcons ahead and secured their first win of the season at Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles star QB, Jalen Hurts had a solid performance for the Eagles, completing 22 of 28 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and another touchdown on 13 carries. Saquon Barkley added 95 yards on 22 carries, while DeVonta Smith put up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. The Eagles had an opportunity to run out the clock on their final drive but had to settle for a field goal inside the two-minute warning. This gave them a six-point lead, leaving the door open for Cousins and the Falcons to rally.

This marks the first win for the Falcons after signing Cousins in the offseason. He went 20-of-29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Bijan Robinson provided a boost on the ground with 97 yards on 14 carries, and Darnell Mooney added 88 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Onto Week 3.

Hundreds of Dodgers fans were lined up at Dodgers Stadium as early as 11am this morning(August 28), but it wasn’t to get a good seat at today’s game.

The game against the Baltimore Orioles will definitely be one to see, with the O’s just one GB the Yanks in the AL East, but fans lined up in Dodgers Stadium’s Chavez Ravine for first grabs of Shohei Ohtani’s bobblehead. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PST, but baseball fans, ahem, Ohtani fans are making sure they don’t miss out on the future HOFer’s collectible.

See the line at Chavez Ravine HERE

The first 40K fans are promised one of the prized bobbles ,which features Ohtani and his dog Decoy. The bobbleheads come in the natural color and a gold plated version.

Back in May, the Dodgers released an Ohtani statuette and baseball memorabilia collectors were spending hundreds to buy the figurines on the secondary market. Some even spent thousands to purchase the limited edition versions.

The Empire State definitely represents in Major League Baseball, as both Players of the Week come from New York teams. The players who were voted as the best of the American and National Leagues should be no surprise to real baseball fans.

Aaron Judge and Francisco Lindor have been named as the American League and National League’s Players of the Week in the last full week of August, which leaves a little more than a month before the Pennant races begin in late September. Judge and the Yankees faced the Detroit Tigers, the Cleveland Guardians, and the Colorado Rockies last week, while the Amazins took on the Orioles and the San Diego Padres. The Mets broke even in their series against San Diego, edging the Padres by one run in both wins, while the Bronx Bombers beat the Rockies 2-1 in their 3-game series and the same results against the O’s.

Individually, both Lindor and Judge have put up phenomenal stats that would easily put them in the MVP conversation of either league. The 6X All-Star maintained a whopping .381 BA this week, with seven homers and 11 RBIs. Mets’ superstar shortstop boasted a .345 batting average last week, with four doubles, 3 HRs, and six RBIs.

This week, the Mets have to take on the NL West’s second-place Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox, who currently have the worst win-loss record in MLB. The Bombers have a three-game series against the Washington Nationals, with the Yanks already ahead after yesterday’s 5-2 victory. This weekend, the Yankees begin their series against the NL Central’s third-place Cards.

This past weekend, sports fans flocked to NYC’s Jacob Javits Convention Center by the thousands, present to experience the first immersive and interactive sports convention of its type, and most of them brought little ones. Parents brought their kids, and uncles and aunties brought their nieces and nephews because it was well-promoted that there would be activities for the children. What wasn’t promoted was that Hip Hop stars spanning generations would be schmoozing among the sports legends at this monumental event.

The three-day festival started on Friday, with exhibitions for sports fans, including a full UFC ring near the entrance. Hundreds of booths for sports memorabilia sale and trade, such as a box of Wheaties signed by Michael Jordan worth $5,500 to a baseball signed by Hall Of Fame legends Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb worth $300K. If you were a young autograph seeker looking to score some iconic signatures, there were HOFers from all sports like Giants legend Lawrence Taylor, Mets ’86 World Series champions Dwight Gooden and Dwight Strawberry, NBA stars Jalen Rose, Kevin Durant, Jalen Brunson, Walt Frazier, Julius “Dr. J” Irving, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan and even controversial sportscaster Stephen A. Smith were all present.

Millions of sports and collectible cards(Pokemon, Garbage Pail Kids, etc.) were bought, traded, sold, and given away at Fanatics Fest. There were also panel discussions for those interested in the engaging conversations surrounding sports culture with titles “Courtside Conversations” and “The Ultimate Fantasy Draft” while several live podcasts were underway via radio and internet.

Screenshot 2024 08 20 at 5.54.03 PM

There were too many live sports activations to name, from MLB’s simulated Playball Park, where the kids got their chance to get hit a couple of homers, to the NBA hoops, which seemed to be packed to capacity the entire weekend. Soccer and hockey goals, boxing/punching bag challenges, mini football fields, wrestling rings, and everything in between filled up the ground level of the Javits Center. Children were the main participants in these activations, but their parents and guardians seemed to have their focus on something more than just the sports fanatic’s fantasy.

Screenshot 2024 08 20 at 6.00.46 PM

On any given day, music could be heard throughout the convention center, but the front of the temporary club, “40/40 Club” could only be seen from a rear entrance that permitted press and celebrities. Those who wanted to see what all of the camera flashing was about waited on the side near the food court to catch a peep of the celebs headed for the red carpet. The kids saw some of their favorite personalities dip into The 40/40 Club, the exclusive sports bar/nightclub founded by Jay-Z in the early 2000s in midtown Manhattan. This activation in the Javits Center was created in conjunction with Fanatics Sportsbook, who kicked off the entire event. Quavo of The Migos, Lil Baby were spotted going into the invite only club, while Travis Scott was even seen signing a pair of his own Nike Travis Scott sneakers for a young fan before falling in the spot. That’s what Fanatics Fest is all about.

The OGs got to spot some of their favs, including Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, comedian Michael Blackson, and even more come in the spot. The most notable was, of course, Jay-Z himself making an appearance at the club created in his honor, causing such a ruckus that fans on the opposite side of the entrance were trying to sneak a pic of Hov, whose sighting continued to fuel rumors that he will be opening a new 40/40 Club complete with casinos.

Screenshot 2024 08 20 at 5.56.36 PM

With just as many Hip Hop stars making cameo appearances at this exclusive sports event, it’s a guarantee that next year many of the attendees will pull up looking for their favorite rapper rather than their favorite ball player. FanaticsFest was a successful example of how sports and music culture aren’t far removed from each other and when it comes to entertainment, all you can do is give the people who and what they want.

Well, the Mets have introduced another unconventional personality that is totally unrelated to baseball. Sort of.

Hailey Welch, the real life spitballer who went viral for her “Hawk Tuah” comment about oral sex, took the mound at Citi Field to throw out the first pitch for the Mets game against the Oakland A’s yesterday.

The 22-year-old Tennessee native rose to fame on social media when a street interview of her saying “hawk tuah” to describe oral sex went viral. Welch took to her X page to reveal she was actually at the Mets game in order to raise awareness and money for America’s VetDogs, an org. that aims to pair canines with war veterans.

Mets fans and critics alike were confused as to why the Mets chose Welch to throw out the first pitch, but it must have been abad look for the Mets, who lost to the AL West last place A’s 7-6.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his 300th homer, reaching that milestone faster than any other player in the history of Major League Baseball when he connected against the White Sox during a 10-2 victory Wednesday night.

“It’s a great achievement,” he said. “Like I said a couple days ago, I was hoping it would come in a win. It came in a big win for us. We were down for a little bit, couldn’t get much going, so I was just excited it was there in a big moment.”

Judge hit the mark in his 955th game and 3,431st at-bat with a three-run drive in the eighth inning. The six-time All-Star and 2022 American League MVP drove a 3-0 up-and-in sinker from Chad Kuhl into the White Sox bullpen in left for his major league-leading 43rd homer.

The 32-year-old right fielder also accomplished this amazing feat in the least number of at-bats(3,431), and he took the lead ahead of some of the greatest ever to step up to the plate, including Babe Ruth(3,831), Mark McGwire(3,837) and Mets legend Ralph Kiner(3,883).

The Yankees let loose as the ball cleared the wall, jumping up, raising their arms, and banging the dugout railing. After the game, DJ LeMahieu and Austin Wells doused Judge with a tub of water.

“That means a lot,” Judge said. “These guys grind with me every single day. I know the hard work they put in. They see what I do. That was pretty special.”

Is it possible that the baseball world underestimates this historic Juan Soto season, one playing out almost as a real-time background piece?

The thought crossed at least a few minds as Soto tracked his drive toward the right-field seats in the seventh inning on Tuesday night, flipping his bat before beginning his third trot of the night in the Yankees’ 4-1 victory over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. Aaron Judge casts a large shadow in the American League’s Most Valuable Player Award race, but even he can’t take his eyes off Soto.

Celebrating the first three-homer game of his illustrious young career, Soto responded by tossing a verbal bouquet toward the Yankees’ captain, saying that Judge’s 42 homers and 107 RBIs make him “the greatest hitter in the world.”

“Look at his numbers; he’s unbelievable,” Soto said. “He makes my job easier. When you’re hitting in front of a guy like that, you know you’re getting pitches. He’s the greatest one.”

Soto drove in all four of the Yankees’ runs, beginning with an opposite-field two-run shot in the third inning off right-hander Jonathan Cannon. Soto hit another homer off Cannon in the fifth, then crushed a solo blast in the seventh, facing left-hander Fraser Ellard.

“It means a lot. It’s really fun, definitely,” Soto said. “It’s really cool to see it, and even better to get the win.”

Winning medals in the Olympics with COVID? Okay, we thought we’ve seen it all during the Paris games but add this to the list. Just two days after revealing that he had tested positive for COVID-19, American sprinter Noah Lyles took home the bronze medal in the 200-meter final at the Paris Olympics.

Here’s the nitty gritty … Lyles finished the epic race with a time of 19.70 seconds, securing third place behind Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo, who won gold with a time of 19.46 seconds, marking a historic moment as Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medal. American Kenny Bednarek claimed the silver with a time of 19.62 seconds.

But wait, despite testing positive for COVID-19, Lyles remained determined to compete. He moved into a hotel to quarantine away from the Olympic Village and arrived at the track for Wednesday’s semifinal wearing a mask. He chose not to disclose his diagnosis publicly before the race, stating, “You never want to tell your competitors you’re sick. Why would you give them an edge over you?”

You may expect him to slow down in the lead up to the race but the 27 year-old Lyles appeared as energetic as ever when introduced before the final, displaying his signature enthusiasm by jumping and sprinting down the track as the sold-out crowd at Stade de France fell silent.

In a scary moment after crossing the finish line, Lyles collapsed and later asked for water while seated on the track. He was eventually placed in a wheelchair and taken away from the stadium—a stark contrast to his triumph just days earlier when he won his first Olympic gold in the 100 meters by five-thousandths of a second. After that victory, he had boldly predicted that he would win the 200 meters as well.

Thinking on his performance, Lyles admitted that testing positive for COVID-19 “definitely affected my performance,” but he remained proud of his resilience. “To be honest, I’m more proud of myself than anything, coming out and getting the bronze medal with COVID in three days. It’s been a wild Olympics,” he said.

USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic Committee released a statement on the matter:

“Our primary commitment is to ensure the safety of Team USA athletes while upholding their right to compete. After a thorough medical evaluation, Noah chose to compete tonight. We respect his decision and will continue to monitor his condition closely.”

Lyles was vying to become the first man to win both the 100-meter and 200-meter sprints at an Olympics since Usain Bolt in 2016 and the first American to do so since Carl Lewis 40 years ago. Nice company.

His run at more gold medals is far from done. In he upcoming 4×100-meter relay, Lyles said he would leave the decision to USA Track & Field on whether he should run in the final, for which the U.S. team had already qualified with the fastest time in the preliminaries. Wishing Lyles a speedy recovery.

Winless for almost a month, the Chicago White Sox are making the worst kind of history. The woeful White Sox lost their 20th consecutive game Sunday, the majors’ longest skid in 36 years and one short of the American League record, as Chris Flexen was chased early in a 13-7 defeat against the Minnesota Twins.

“At the end of the day, we’ve lost 20 in a row. That’s painful. That sucks,” manager Pedro Grifol said. “We’ve just got to find a way to put that behind us and go out there and be professionals and do what we have to do tomorrow.”

Chicago’s franchise-record losing streak is the longest in the big leagues since the 1988 Baltimore Orioles dropped 21 games in a row, the AL mark, to begin the season. The NL record since 1900 is held by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 straight.

The major league-low belongs to the 1889 Louisville Colonels, an American Association team that endured a 26-game slide during a 27-111 season.

Next, the White Sox will travel to Oakland for a three-game series beginning Monday night against the Athletics, who are last in the AL West.

“It’s very difficult,” Chicago center fielder Luis Robert Jr. said via a translator. “There’s nothing else we can do, just try to come here every day as we’ve been doing it and try to win games.”

Chicago’s losing streak is tied with four other clubs for the third-longest since 1900: the 1969 Montreal Expos, the 1943 and 1916 Philadelphia Athletics, and the 1906 Boston Americans. The latest defeat dropped the White Sox 60 games below .500 for the first time in franchise history. They are on pace to finish 38-124, the most losses since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders of the National League went 20-134.

The journey of Sha’Carri Richardson just took a turn but it’s a good one. The lightening fast sprinter took the silver medal in the 100-meter race at the Paris Olympics.

This feat comes three years after missing the Tokyo Games due to a positive marijuana test. Still wild how that happened to her.

As everyone would imagine there were high expectations for Richardson. But no gold medal in the 100 meter. Instead, Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred won the top prize with a time of 10.72 seconds.

Get this the “W” earned Alfred’s island nation their first Olympic medal.

Let that sink in. That was their FIRST Olympic medal, ever. Wow. Flowers to Julien. All the flowers.

But slow down, Richardson finished second in 10.87 seconds after a not so hot start that put her at a disadvantage early in the race. Listen, it happens.

Following the surprising race, Richardson briefly spoke to a reporter who mispronounced her name, correcting them with, “It’s Sha’Carri.” Can you blame her?

As one of the more standout athletes in the Paris Olympics, Richardson faced immense pressure. Some would say pressure rarely experienced by any athlete not named Simone Biles or LeBron James, although the later is the oldest player in the NBA but still.

When you add non stop media coverage and major endorsements from brands like Nike and Sprite, Richardson had quite literally the world on her shoulders.

Richardson’s track to the Olympics, pun intended, has been rocky. She has experienced highs and lows, from being one of the fastest women in the world to facing suspension and criticism. Super heavy for anyone to have to endure, even a major athlete such as Richardson.

But after that suspension, she returned to competition in August 2021, she finished last in a race that featured many of the women she would have faced in Tokyo. Despite all this adversity, Richardson remained defiant, stating, “Count me out if you want to. Talk all the s— you want. Because I’m here to stay. I’m not done. I’m the sixth-fastest woman in this game ever. Can’t nobody ever take that from me.”

It’s not over for Sha’Carri Richardson. But maybe the real story is it’s just beginning for Julien Alfred.

More evidence that the Yankees’ front office made the logical decision when it came to acquiring former Marlins centerfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. before yesterday’s trade deadline. Derek Jeter’s advice to the Yanks din’t fall on deaf ears and the entire organization is elated that they didn’t. Chisholm has become a record breaker in just 24 hours of being a Yankee, becoming the first in the franchise to hit four HRs in the first three games played in pinstripes.

The Bahamian-born 26-year-old drove in five RBIs with two homers, helping the Bronx Bombers edge the Phillies 7-6 in 12 innings. After homering twice in Monday night’s 14-4 win over Philadelphia, including a ninth-inning blast hit with Aaron Judge’s bat, Chisholm became the first Yankee to belt four homers in his first three games with the team.

The Yankees newly acquired third baseman hit a solo homer off Aaron Nola in the sixth inning and a three run dinger off Matt Strahm in the seventh.

“That’s sick, to be part of the history of the New York Yankees,” Chisholm said. “It’s one of the sickest things anybody in baseball could hear.”

Simone Biles has once again etched her name into the annals of Olympic history. With her latest triumph at the 2024 Paris Games, Biles has become the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history, solidifying her legacy as a true icon of the sport.

At 27, Biles clinched her eighth Olympic medal on Tuesday night. She led her team to victory in the team final alongside teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera. Their stellar performance secured the gold, propelling Biles past the previous record-holder, Shannon Miller, who had garnered seven medals during the 1992 Barcelona and 1996 Atlanta Games.

This achievement adds to Biles’ already impressive tally of 38 medals across the Olympics and World Championships, a record that surpasses both male and female gymnasts. Despite this monumental accomplishment, Biles remains remarkably humble and focused on her love for the sport.

In a post-victory press conference, Biles reflected on her new record with characteristic nonchalance. “Honestly, I would have had to Google that,” she admitted to reporters, including those from People. “I don’t keep count, I don’t keep stats. I just go out here and do what I’m supposed to and I’m doing what I love and enjoying it, so that’s really all that matters to me.”

Biles’ grounded perspective underscores her dedication and passion for gymnastics. “Yes, it’s amazing, now that I hear it, but I don’t think I’ll truly understand the depth of it until I walk away from the sport,” she added, emphasizing that her focus remains on the present and her love for competing.

This latest gold medal marks Biles’ fifth in Olympic competition, adding to her collection of one silver and two bronze medals. Her achievements not only highlight her extraordinary talent and hard work but also inspire countless athletes around the world.

As Simone Biles continues to make history, her legacy will undoubtedly be remembered for generations. Her journey serves as a testament to the power of perseverance, passion, and a love for the sport that transcends records and accolades.

It didn’t take long for the recent Yankees trade acquisition of former Miami Marlins All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to yield results for the Bronx Bombers when Chisholm belted two homers yesterday against the NL East leaders, the Philadelphia Phillies. The double boomers were Chisholm’s first dingers as a Yankee. Some say the secret is he used Aaron Judge’s bat.

Jazz picked up his first hit and first stolen base as a Yankee on Sunday against the Red Sox just hours after being traded from the Marlins to the Yankees on Saturday. Chisholm hit his first dinger in pinstripes against Phillies Zack Wheeler and hit the second against Garret Stubbs. The latter was belted with some help from Aaron Judge’s bat.

Monday’s homers are his 14th and 15th of the season. He hit .249/.323/.407 with 22 steals in 101 games with the Marlins before the trade.

It should be mentioned that Chisholm started his first career at third base on Monday. His two primary positions are second base and center field, but the Yankees are set there with Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge, so Chisholm is trying third base. He started a slick 5-4-3 double play in his first chance at the hot corner.

“I mean, I went out there and played center field for the first time last year and I felt like it was pretty difficult at first,” Chisholm said about playing third base. “But I just feel like I could go and play anywhere and help my team win. For me, it’s just going somewhere — especially a winning team — and they’re asking me to go somewhere to help them win? I’m definitely gonna go out there and do it.”

As one fan put it, the Yanks will put a beating on the Mets one way or another.

Earlier this week, the Mets and Yankees took their NYC two-game “Subway Series” Uptown to the Bronx, and the battle off the field got just as entertaining as the battle on the diamond when Yankees and Mets fans began brawling in the rotunda of Yankee Stadium, leaving several attendees lumped and bruised in the battle royale-esque scuffle.

About six people, including two women, were fighting it out when the video showed a Yankees fan with no shirt catching a Mets fan with a strong hook, sending him to the ground. Security eventually made it to the skirmish, but not before the embarrassed Mets fan tried to redeem himself by taking on another Yankees fan until the fire finally fizzled.

Surprisingly, the NYPD said that no arrests were made, so besides a few bumps and bruises, everyone made it home okay except for the Yankees, who were edged by the Amazins 3-2 on Tuesday and spanked by them 12-3 on Wednesday. The two BX wins sealed their sweep, leaving them the reigning Kings of Queens.

The 2024 Subway Series was the first time the Mets swept the series since 2013.

We have entered a world where a 55th pick in the NBA Draft dropping 12 points makes global news. And we are all guilty of making this a big deal, including us, but it’s still fun so we’re not sorry, ha!

Here we go. Bronny James gave the naysayers his most impressive performance to date for the Lakers in the NBA summer league. He helped lead the team to a W by squeaking by the Atlanta Hawks, 87-86.

James dropped 12 buckets, shooting a strong 5-of-11 from the field and get this, 2-of-5 from arc! Okay, watch out Steph! Kidding, c’mon ya’ll just relax and have fun.

So prior to this solid game, Bronny struggled in the first three summer league matchups, as expected. He averaged just 4.3 points per game with a 22.6% field-goal percentage and missing all 15 of his three-point attempts. Sheesh. But again, it’s early so give him some time.

Commentator Skip Bayless gave Bronny his flowers for his performance on Undisputed, stating, “He looked like he belonged out there.” Well if Skip is patting LeBron’s son on the back then the world is truly in a tailspin!

Here are some of the highlights we pulled from YouTube @HouseofHighlights:

It’s wild to think outside of NBA All-Star games, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and Golden State Warriors Steph Curry have not played together. The two future Hall of Famers have been especially vocal about teaming up for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

ICYMO, last Wednesday (July 10), Team USA, which some consider one of the best Olympic basketball squads ever assembled on paper, played their first exhibition game against Canada.

The American stars game away with a sound victory, even against fellow star NBA players who hail from Canada.

As expected, James and Curry were key in catching the W in what is shaping up to be a tough starting lineup with Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, Boston Celtics’ Jrue Holiday, and Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid.

Get this: A highlight of the action was an incredible, much-awaited alley-oop between James and Curry—or should we say Curry to James, in case you really weren’t sure, ha.

The icon-to-icon pass for the slam quickly went viral.

James, seizing the moment, shared the play on the Gram. Who stepped into the chat? None other than Bron’s former Heat teammate, Dwyane Wade.

As he was often referred to, the Flash brought back memories of their more than iconic image from their days in South Beach. Wade, made a note in the comments:

With James and Curry leading the charge, and Anthony Edwards making it known he wants to be the man, Team USA is out for nothing less than gold and the world, especially Dwyane Wade, is watching.

Retired NBA player Jalen Rose is one of the twenty on-air personalities laid off from ESPN. Reports are saying that the whopping layoffs blindsided many and  they are unrelated to the multi-round Disney layoffs implemented in recent months.

Deadline reports:

ESPN is letting go of about 20 on-air personalities, including two familiar names to NBA viewers: game analyst Jeff Van Gundy and studio co-host Jalen Rose.

Keyshawn Johnson, a former NFL player who had co-hosted ESPN Radio’s national morning show in one of many chapters in a 16-year run on ESPN, is also among those leaving. Also out is Max Kellerman, Johnson’s radio co-host as well as host of This Just In and formerly Stephen A. Smith’s longtime sparring partner on daily morning TV staple First Take.

A person familiar with the cutbacks told Deadline they are unrelated to the multi-round Disney layoffs implemented in recent months. Those reductions saw a number of senior-level execs leave ESPN but spared on-air talent. The source indicated that many of those affected by the new cuts have contracts beyond June 30 and will paid out accordingly, but parting ways will enable ESPN to avoid wider layoffs. The sports operation is now its own division of Disney, making its financials more visible.

Sharpe purchased the dog for $10,000, according to X17Online, whose cameraman watched the transaction unfold.

Shannon wasn’t happy with the outlet for filming the transaction. He looked at the camera and said, “Really? Why?” to which the paparazzi replied, “Why not?”

Sharpe then angrily stormed off with his pedigree dog.

Friday, Shannon quoted someone who tweeted the video of the transaction.

“F–k wrong wit dude just recording Unc Shannon sharpe like that?” the person tweeted, to which Sharpe replied: “SOME PPL have become really weird looking for paydays,” with a clown emoji.

The two next-up contenders are set to main event the WBA eliminator on Saturday evening in Las Vegas on Showtime Boxing. One must let go of the undefeated title and the opportunity to fight for a title in the 12-round lightweight bout. The fight is Martin’s most important night of his career yet.

Martin spoke with The Source’s Bryson “Boom” Paul last week via Zoom on the importance of this bout. Throughout the conversation, The Ghost shares Errol’s promise to him following his last victory, Rivera’s skill, being the most wanted fighter in the lightweight division, if he is the most dangerous man in the lightweight division, more

Read the full interview below.

[Bryson “Boom” Paul”]: This is a big deal, man. This is a WBA eliminator, man. So after this, it’s the title shot, man. How do you feel?

[Frank Martin]: I feel good. I’m working. I’m ready to go out there and do what I do.

Now, this is also a special moment for you, something that you probably haven’t even thought about. This is your third time fighting in Vegas, and this’ll be your third time fighting an undefeated fighter. So tell me about the experience that you’re going to take into this fight, being that one 0 must go.

Just my grind. My grind, with me having Derrick James behind me, that coaching, that’s definitely going to take me over the top. And then just my natural ability, just my skills. But like you say, somebody 0 got to go, and I feel like it’s one of them things, it’s going to be who want it. When we in there, it’s going to be like, which one of them going to bite down and go get it? I’m known for doing it, so it ain’t nothing. It ain’t going to change.

You are fighting Michel Rivera on December 17th at the Cosmo in Las Vegas. They have him ranked number two and got you ranked at number 10. How do you feel going into this being the favorite, though?

Man, I ain’t really looking at it like that. They can rank it how they want to rank it, but it all depends when we get in there in that ring. So I got to just go in there and just do what I do. I don’t let the rankings or none of that play with my head. I’m going for the number one spot. So I got to go ahead and handle my business.

Now, what a lot of people don’t know is this is a fight that was promised to you by Errol Spence Jr, who’s also helping you promote the fight. Can you add some clarity to that promise? Where does this promise come from? How did they make sure you got this fight that you wanted so bad?

From the jump, he told me he was going to give me big fights, “I’m going to get you the big fights you want,” and everything like that. So this one, it had got mentioned earlier in the year, but there was some stuff going on with me or whatever, so we wasn’t able to make it happen. But it came back around once Chris Colbert didn’t end up taking the fight or whatever, he said he wasn’t ready.

So this came back around. So I’m like, “I’m with it, but what this for? Is it something that we fighting for?” And it was, it’s the title eliminator to get me closer to the WBA belt. So with that, that’s all I needed to hear. I’m like, “Let’s get it.”

Because a lot of people ain’t going to fight me. None of the top guys going to just be like, “All right, yeah, we’re going to fight him.” I’m going to have to work. I got to earn it.

So this one of them things that I’m like, “Yeah, it’s the opportunity, I have to take this to get me in that door with them top dogs or whatever, and get me in that position.” So they can’t say, “What’s his ranking? Where he at?” I’m right there. I’m in the number one spot.

That’s why he was promising me that, basically, he was going to give me the big fights and give me a belt or whatever. So this is the perfect setup. This is the perfect opportunity for me.

Now, this is your third fight this year. How do you like this activity? Do you want to take this into next year, where you fight three times a year?

Right now, I’ll fight more. If I could fight four times, four, three. I would really like to fight four. Give me four quarters. Give me four quarters, and I’m going to rock with it. Three good, but four, if I can get four next year, or three, either/or, cool.

You got a lot of fighters in the lightweight division, a lot of them got their eyes on you, and a lot of them have big fights that also involve you in the future. But when other enthusiasts that do these interviews ask you about future fights, ask you about this person, that person, does it ever bother you that they don’t sit here and focus on the fight at hand? Obviously, you are not overlooking anybody. You sitting here like, “Rivera is the one in front of me right now, and then we’ll deal with the rest later.” But do you ever get annoyed or frustrated with people asking you questions as far as future fights or future fighters?

Sometimes. Sometimes, because a lot of times people jump ahead of what’s in front of them. I try to be in that moment. I try to focus on what’s right there right now. Because a lot of those fights they talking about might not even happen. Sometimes it’s a waste of energy to even talk about it. I feel like I’m going to respect my opponent that I got right now, and handle my business with him. And then I would prefer, I like to talk more about other fights when I don’t got no fight booked up, something like that. But talking about another fighter, I would prefer to just stick on my man.

Rivera, is he your biggest challenge so far?

Yeah. I would say fighting style, and record wise and all of that, yeah, I’d say that he’s the more skilled fighter. He is similar to the last dude I just fought, I feel like. Might be just a little slicker, but I feel like he similar to the last guy I fought.

Speaking on Jackson, and your last fight, you obviously won, TKO in the 10. But I want to ask you, looking back at the tape, what were some things that you noticed about yourself that you worked on this camp?

Man, there was a lot. I can’t tell you what I’m working on now, you’re going to have to see that. That fight, I didn’t really have a lot of time to prepare for. I probably found out 10 days before the fight. Energy low, so really the game plan, we worked certain things, but some of the stuff wasn’t sticking with me. Energy low, can’t really register everything.

So that fight, I feel like it was a lot of mistakes that I made in that fight. And also, I felt like it was an off night for me, just within. Just my body, there was some stuff that wasn’t working for me that night or whatever. My timing, I was just off a tad bit.

But I figured it out. Derrick gave me good instructions in the corner or whatever, to get me in that zone that I needed to get in. But I had to figure it out, and find it, that fight. But there was some things that I didn’t lock down on, some shots I got hit with that I wasn’t supposed to get hit with. I was real stationary that fight.

Just really trying to get what I got, get that knockout, but I wasn’t doing it. I wasn’t doing it the smooth way. I made it harder than what it had to be.

Obviously, this is a bigger fight, so everything is amped up, and everything’s a little bit different as far as training. Going into training camp now, how has training been for you this time around?

Yeah, it been good, man. My sparring partners, I got a lot of good sparring partners for this camp. Real good sparring partners. I’ve got a nutritionist. Added on extreme conditioning. EJ been real hands-on with me, just as far as we’ve been locked in together, running, working out, everything. We just been locked all the way in. I done added quite a few things different in this camp.

Now your promoter, how has your relationship with Errol Spence grown in and out of the ring?

Oh, it’s good. Me and EJ’s relationship always been good. With this camp, with this fight, he been making sure I’m good with everything. If it’s anything that I need, or anything that could help me, he asking me, like, “Tell me what you need, whatever.” He just making sure I’m all the way mentally where I need to be, physically. Whatever I need, he making sure I’m getting that, so I can be all the way prepared for the fight. He been tapped in with me.

You are going to be a top dog one day yourself. Like you said, EJ has taken care of you, made sure you got everything you need. In the future, when you on top, are you going to be also reaching back to a fighter like yourself? What is something that you’ve learned from EJ that you plan to take on into the future when you reach back for other fighters?

Man, a lot. It’s like little stuff. Some people take things differently though. Some people may be like, little things help him out the most, like if it is a conversation, if it’s showing somebody a move, if it’s whatever. Just how he is with, not even just me, it’s fighters who ask him stuff.

We just went to a fight over the weekend, and it’s a lot of fighters who admire him. So just how he cool, he real social with his fans, and then with other fighters. Not too many fighters, but if it’s a fighter he rock with, you know he going to support him. He going to support him.

So just that right there, just being real supportive of the up-and-coming fighters that I like, that I rock with. Just being supportive of them, and giving them the motivation, if it’s words … Just certain things go a long way.

You have all the abilities and attributes to become one of the greatest lightweights of all time. But I want to ask you, in your opinion, who are your top five lightweights of all time?

I switched it up a lot. I switch mines up a lot. I like Roberto Duran. I pick up a little bit from everybody though, so it’s something from everybody.

Roberto Duran. Pernell Whitaker. Meldrick Taylor. I like Meldrick Taylor. Floyd. Who else? Let me rock out with my four. Let me rock out with my four.

You said this time you got a nutritionist and whatnot. I want to ask you, what have you learned about your eating habit with this nutritionist?

For the most part, I be on point when it come to eating good and everything. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to eat when … I like seafood a lot. But I don’t just be eating and get out of shape, and just be, “Oh, I got to …” I’m always in shape.

But, with this nutritionist, it’s just everything that I’m eating, I ain’t really gaining too much weight. I’m having energy, I’m eating all the right stuff that I’m supposed to eat, everything balanced. He know exactly like, “All right, I’m going to cut the carbs off this week, and I’m going to take up the protein.” He knowing what to do. I don’t know how to do that on my own.

I normally cook on my own, but he making it easy. Making sure, in the morning, breakfast made as soon as I get up. Lunch, when I get out the gym, done. Dinner, same thing, when I get back, everything done. So I’m eating, and I can do what I got to do.

In training camp right now, but you still have your downtime, so I want to know, what are you doing to stay relaxed in the downtime? Are you watching anything? Reading anything? Meditations? What are you doing in the downtime?

I was doing yoga. I’ve been doing hot yoga. I be doing that cryo. I be doing that cryotherapy, the compressions, and all of that stuff. I got this book I’ve been reading, it’s called … You going to know what it is. What’s the name of the book? The Way of the Superior Man. I’ve been tapped into that book or whatever. I got to tap back in, I ain’t read it in about two weeks though, so I’m going to get back into it. That keep me my mental on point.

This is The Source. Of course, we have to talk about the music. Who are you listening to in the gym, training?

I’ll be listening to that new Lil Baby. That new Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch. Got some NBA. I got some NBA in there, for sure. We be having a little bit of everything going in the gym.

MORE: SOURCE SPORTS: Caleb Plant Talks Anthony Dirrell, Canelo, Eddie Hearns, & Boxing Future

In the gym, it’s not always serious. Boxers often crack jokes on each other a lot in training. Now honestly, who brings the heat?

EJ got the heat. Errol got the heat. Errol got the heat. He got the heat, for sure. He don’t get on me. We be on Reece, we be on Maurice’s head.

Rivera is arguably the toughest you will face yet, but definitely not the toughest opponent that you will face in your career, I’m sure. One 0 must go. Are you worried at all about losing your 0, whether it’s now or in the future?

Nah. Nah, I’m not. I don’t want to lose it, so I’m working, I’m working, working, working. Doing everything I got to do so I can keep it. I’m into, whatever going to get me to where I got to get to. So I ain’t like, “Man, this is a tough fight. I don’t want to lose.” No. I’m fitting to challenge myself. I’m going to do everything I got to do to get this W, but for the most part I’m fitting to challenge myself and go get it. So winning is the only thing right now in my mind.

How does it feel with Showtime Boxing and Premier Boxing Champions getting behind you as a promising main event headliner?

Man, it’s dope. It’s dope. All the hard work is right here now. It’s up to me to go out here and do what I’m supposed to do to keep it going. All the hard days, all of that, is right here, so I just have to go out here and do what I do to keep this momentum going.

You have to set the record straight. Is Frank Martin, the ghost himself, the most dangerous man in the lightweight division?

Yeah.

Last night NASCAR turned into WWF wrestling when Ty Gibbs and Sam Mayer came to blows.
Gibbs lost the lead to Brandon Jones in the final corner and attempted a final drive off the corner when Sam Mayer ran into Gibbs from behind, moving him up the racetrack and creating a three-car jam for second place. Mayer then ended up driving Gibbs into the wall.

Gibbs expressed his displeasure by running into Mayer after the checkered flag, and things escalated once the two stopped on pit road. Gibbs quickly confronted Mayer, and the two exchanged words and shoves before Gibbs began punching and grabbing Mayer by the head. The two went down in a pile before being separated.

“I tried to talk to him, and he got all in my face. At that point, we’ve got to start fighting,” Gibbs told Fox Sports. “We got put in a bad position there. The only thing I’m mad about … He wasn’t going to get past the No. 16 there and I just got hit in the left rear. It’s just frustrating. I just got drove in the fence at the end.”

Mayer, who was left with a black eye and some bruising to his face, said his racing Gibbs hard on the final lap would have awarded $100,000 to Mayer had he passed Gibbs to be the highest-finishing Dash 4 Cash-qualified driver.
Mayer criticized Gibbs for getting upset for being on the receiving end of getting moved out of the way despite his willingness to do the same to other drivers Gibbs previously moved John Hunter Nemechek for the win at Richmond, a point which Gibbs agreed.

During the melee an official was also placed on a stretcher and taken to an ambulance with unspecified injuries.

It was the shot heard around the world- or at least throughout the midwest. With a tied score of 77, the Big 10 semifinal game between Indiana and Iowa appeared to be heading into overtime. However, with just 1.1 on the clock, sixth-year senior guard Jordan Bohannon tossed the ball from well past the three point line in what appeared to be a wild desperation shot. To the amazement of fans, he sunk the shot, sealing the win for Iowa 80-77.

Courtesy of CBS Sports

The winning shot came in the face of a strong Indiana defense that appeared to be relentlessly pressing Bohannan, who happens to be Iowa’s all-time leader in assists, games played and 3-pointers. The Hoosiers had appeared to dominate the game throughout the second half until Iowa made a late fourth quarter rally.fourth-quarter.

Following the game, Bohannon attempted to articulate his feelings about the game-winning shot to the Des Moines Register as “something that can’t even be put into words,” saying, “you dream about it as a little kid, throwing up shots in the backyard, throwing up shots at the local YMCA when you’re a kid and hoping one day you get to this stage. And I was running in circles, I didn’t know where to go because I was so excited. To be in that moment, it’s been so much fun.”

The win will send Iowa (25-9) to its first Big Ten Tournament final since 2006. They will face No. 3 seed Purdue in the Big Ten title bout on Sunday.

For the first time in 50 years, the Bucks took the championship trophy back to Milwaukee after defeating the Phoenix Suns in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

It was a close game, with the Bucks taking the Suns 105 to 98, but with the “Greek Freak” landing 50 points, 13 rebounds, and 17 of 19 from the free throw line, the Bucks would end up taking home the chip while Giannis Antetokounmpo walked away with the Bill Russell MVP trophy for the series.

The fans outside of the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee were going bananas following the win over the Suns as their city hasn’t brought home an NBA championship since Oscar Robertson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar led the Bucks to the NBA Finals win back in 1971.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was the star of the six-game finale, scoring over 40 points in 3 of the 6 games in the series, with an average of 35.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, 5 assists and shot 62% inside the three-point line. With the first MVP trophy of his career, Antetokounmpo has already put himself in the running for Hall of Fame status.

“I saw the shots they were giving me, and I just started making them,” said the 17-year vet in a post-game interview.” It’s just one game, we got to stay locked in. We got one, we got to get another one.”

The lead extended to as many 20 points 88-66, and Suns point guard Chris Paul, who finished the game with 32 points and nine assists, anchored the third-quarter avalanche by scoring 16 points.

The Bucks began to show life in the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to 7 points after a 7-foot jumper by Jrue Holiday, a layup by Kris Middleton, Byran Forbes three-pointer, and a second chance layup by Giannis Antetokounmpo. That brought the score to 101-94 with 7:16 left to go.

Pheonix quieted the storm with a Booker three off, and the Suns took control of the rest of the game. Booker finished with 27 points six assists, and Ayton had 22 points and 19 rebounds.

Middleton led the Bucks with 29 points and seven rebounds, and Antetokounmpo added 20 points and 17 rebounds.

The two teams exchanged buckets for the most part in the first quarter, but the Suns did enough to hold a 4-point 30-26 advantage.

The Suns doubled their lead in the second quarter as they went into the half with an 8-point 57-49 lead, but the Bucks had no answer for the Suns in the third.

Midway through the quarter, the Suns took off and doubled their point total. They led by 16 with 4:41 to go in the third quarter and closed with the quarter leading by 17.

He egged on Garcia and even stated that he would’ve killed him with one of his punches. The back and forth became so intense, it could only be settled in the ring.

Davis immediately shared a poster promoting the fight on Instagram.

This year’s basketball season in the bubble was definitely one we will remember.

Top chef Alexia Grant was one of the 10 chefs invited to cook for the players inside the infamous NBA bubble. From her kitchen at Disney World, she launched the pop-up restaurant Comfort Kitchen, specializing in Caribbean and Southern comfort food. Her food has been in demand from the players who miss the taste of home-cooked food.

Since being limited to the bubble and a certain perimeter, she’s cooked for players from every team in the bubble. The Miami Heat, the LA Lakers, and the Denver Nuggets have all ranted about her tasty cuisine. But cooking under strict quarantine hasn’t been an easy feat. She can’t leave the bubble to do her own shopping and has to rely on runners to deliver her food to the players in the inner bubble.

Watch this video to see how the players were fed during the 2020 pandemic.

Anthony Davis’ shot at the buzzer in Game 2 of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals last night gave the Los Angeles Lakers a 2-0 series lead over the Denver Nuggets.

Lakers point guard, Rajon Rondo had the assist on the game-winner and Rondo gave “The Brow” a huge compliment.

“He’s arguably the best scorer in our game,” he said.

Davis hit the shot over Nuggets big man, Nikola Jokic and during his post-game interview, Jokic stated: “They have AD who is probably the best scorer in the league.”

A seven-time NBA All-Star, Davis finished the game with 31 points and shot 11-of-23 from the field, 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Davis was traded from the New Orleans Pelicans to the Lakers in a blockbuster trade last summer.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Davis, 27, was the first overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft out of Kentucky. While at Kentucky, he won a National Championship under head coach John Calipari. He also won an Olympic gold medal with Team U.S.A. Basketball under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. The next natural progression is for Davis’ to win an NBA Championship with Lakers teammates LeBron James, Dwight Howard, and Kyle Kuzma. “This is the year,” Anthony Davis told NBA Insider, Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.

“That’s the main goal. That’s our goal and we are going to come in with the mindset that we’re all thinking.”

Davis and the Lakers resume play on Tuesday in Game 3 against the Nuggets.

On the NBA’s Eastern Conference side of things, the Miami Heat who are led by their stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, hold a 2-1 lead over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Guided by stars, Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kemba Walker, the Celtics won Game 3 in a convincing fashion with a 117-106 victory. Jaylen Brown scored 26 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Tatum had a 25 point, 14 rebounds, and eight assist outing. Walker had 21 points and six assists and Marcus Smart chipped in with 20 points, four rebounds, and six assists. The Heat and Celtics resume play in Game 4 action on Wednesday.

The predicted score by the pros at Sports Betting Dime, gives the edge to the Celtics by about 3 points.

In an unprecedented move in professional sports, Kyrie Irving and Lakers guard Avery Bradley are leading a coalition of players against the restarting the 2019-20 NBA season.

Besides the coronavirus pandemic, the players are concerned that resuming basketball season, the attention will be taken away from the issues of social injustice that have plagued the country for centuries, but have recently been at the forefront of the American citizens’ priorities.

The purpose of the coalition is to provide a voice for the professional basketball players who’ve had a hard time readjusting amidst the current racial and social climate in the U.S.

The coalition issued the following statement to ESPN:

“We are a group of men and women from different teams and industries that are normally painted as opponents, but have put our egos and differences aside to make sure we stand united and demand honesty during this uncertain time.

Native indigenous African Caribbean men and women entertaining the world, we will continue to use our voices and platforms for positive change and truth.

We are truly at an inflection point in history where as a collective community, we can band together—UNIFY—and move as one. We need all our people with us and we will stand together in solidarity.

As an oppressed community we are going on 500-plus years of being systemically targeted, used for our IP/Talent, and also still being killed by the very people that are supposed to ‘protect and serve’ us.

WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH!

We are combating the issues that matter most: We will not accept the racial injustices that continue to be ignored in our communities. We will not be kept in the dark when it comes to our health and well-being. And we will not ignore the financial motivations/expectations that have prevented us historically from making sound decisions.

This is not about individual players, athletes or entertainers. This is about our group of strong men and women uniting for change. We have our respective fields, however, we will not just shut up and play to distract us from what this whole system has been about: Use and Abuse.

We are all fathers, daughters leaders and so much more. So what is our BIG picture? We are in this for UNITY and CHANGE!”

Just two days after Bubba Wallace made a statement saying he felt NASCAR should ban fans from flying the Confederate flag at tracks, a ban has been permanently put into effect at all events and properties of the auto-racing giant.

On Sunday, Bubba Wallace, the only African American driver racing full-time in any of NASCAR’s top three series wore a shirt that said “I can’t breathe” in honor of George Floyd’s last words as he was killed on May 25th in Minneapolis.  After Wallace wore the shirt for pre-race ceremonies and the national anthem, NASCAR held a moment of silence before the green flag as president Steve Phelps spoke to drivers and teams over the radio about racial injustice and the move for social change.

Wallace then appeared on CNN Monday night and said that he felt NASCAR should ban fans from flying the Confederate flag at tracks. In a statement about the call to action to ban the Confederate flag, Bubba stated, “The presence of the Confederate flag at NASCAR events runs contrary to our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all fans, our competitors and our industry. Bringing people together around a love for racing and the community that it creates is what makes our fans and sport special. The display of the Confederate flag will be prohibited from all NASCAR events and properties.”

Tonight, Bubba Wallace will drive a car at Martinsville supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. Wallace’s Richard Petty Motorsports car will be all African American and feature a handshake on the hood and the words “Black Lives Matter” on the sides and “compassion, love, understanding” on both the front and back of the car.

Following the recent protests, riots and uproar against police brutality, professional boxer Deontay Wilder‘s meme-worthy comment ‘To This Day’ resonates now more than ever. The Bronze Bomber released an epic gut-wrenching spoken word on his Instagram page that definitely hits home. Instead of saying ‘I told you so!” The young king took the time to spread a much needed message.
“It isn’t about Blacks Vs Whites…It’s about Blacks Vs Racism” he posted to his Instagram page to almost 3 million followers.

Two years ago when reporter Radio Rahim asked Wilder about his statement and questioned what he meant when he said that ‘black people in American had been fighting for 400 years, it took Wilder over the edge and he took the time to school Rahim.

“They’re your people too! You know what I’m talking about, you all know what I’m talking about!” Wilder screamed.

“Don’t sit up here and try to bait. Y’all know what the f*** I talk about when I say these things. Your people too.”

“How dare you, man?” Wilder fired back. “You know what I’m talking about. You know we’ve been fighting and we’re still fighting ’til this day. ‘Til this day! ‘Til this day! ‘Til this day!”

“I ain’t gotta explain what’s understood, Radio Rahim…If ain’t nobody understand that, then God be with them, go look up the history.

“S***, don’t everybody believe in Google? Go Google that s***, see what I’m talking about.”
“I dare you to sit up there and (ask me to) explain, you know what I’m talking about. His fighting people, you know what we’ve been fighting for and still fighting for to this day. To this day, to this day!”

Classic.

Scottie Pippen Confronted Micheal Jordan About His Portrayal in 'The Last Dance'

According to a recent radio interview on NBC Sports Washington, Michael Jordan’s former agent says that Air Jordan’s former teammate Scottie Pippen has always harbored a bit of jealousy towards number 23.

Speaking to 106.7 FM’s The Junkies in the wake of the recently released Jordan documentary The Last Dance, David Falk, says that the doc provides undeniable proof that Michael Jordan was and is indeed the greatest basketball player of all time.

“With virtually zero defense, no hand-checking, I think if Jordan played today; if he was in his prime in today’s rules, I think he’d average between 50 and 60 a game. I think he’d shoot 75% from the floor. If you couldn’t hand-check him, he would be completely unstoppable,” adding, “Now that I watch [the documentary], I realize that, unless you’re legally blind, you can’t possibly think that there’s another player who ever played the game that’s remotely in the league that he’s in. Nobody.”

Falk then expounded on his theory that Scottie Pippen, who played alongside Jordan for six consecutive seasons, was jealous of his own teammate who together, captured three NBA Championships.

“Pippen has a certain level of jealousy towards Michael. He has said recently many times he thinks LeBron’s a better player. Now, if you’re Scottie Pippen, and Michael Jordan made your career, completely made your career; even if you think that, keep it to yourself.”

As a direct result of the Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance releasing, sales for the 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie card has reached its peak at $51,000, according to several sports memorabilia reports.

While not rare, the Michael Jordan rookie card is considered the most popular basketball card. Reports compared the card to Babe Ruth-signed baseballs – though plenty is available, there aren’t enough to satisfy demands. The Michael Jordan documentary, which premiered on April 19, brought in an average of 6.1 million viewers on an average.

In the past few days, sales for every level card authenticated by the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) have reportedly gone up. PSA takes a card, authenticates it, and grades it from level one to ten. While the 1986-87 Fleer rookies Michael Jordan No. 57 card wasn’t a hit at the time, it gained value as Jordan’s popularity rose. The price of the card, which can range from $2,000 to even $50,000, depending on the condition of the card.

PSA stated that they have graded 18,859 pieces of the Michael Jordan rookie card, out of which 312 are graded at 10 and are selling between $40,000 to $50,000. On Sunday (Monday IST), Robert Edward Auctions broke the record by selling a mint card for $51,600. Cards that sold at $5,000 in 2005 are reportedly returning ten times their investment.

Due to the recent Coronavirus pandemic that has swept across the globe, Major League Baseball and the MLB Players Association have come to the agreement that players are allowed to leave their training sites in Arizona and Florida and return to their club’s home city or return to their offseason homes. Opening day, which was originally scheduled for March 26, has been postponed for at least two weeks.

“This step is in the best interests of players, employees and the communities who host Spring Training, Major League Baseball announced via a statement Friday evening. “MLB will continue to monitor ongoing events and undertake the precautions and best practices recommended by public health experts. We send our best wishes to all the individuals and communities who have been impacted by coronavirus.”

Some players have opted to stay near their spring training sites, including the entire New York Yankees squad, according to player representative Zack Britton.

A week ago, teams were advising players to limit contact with fans. Then media access was restricted on Tuesday. Then games were halted on Thursday. Now, players are departing camps completely, making the opening date all the more uncertain.

On Wednesday (Mar. 10th), the NCAA announced that March Madness would be played without fans. On Thursday, every college basketball conference canceled its league tournament. Now, the NCAA Tournament as a whole looks to be in jeopardy.

Selection Sunday is supposed to be in two days’ time (March. 15th). Whether the Selection Committee goes through the process of putting together a 68-team field remains to be seen. If they do, then odds will be set, pundits will weigh-in, and March Madness bracket contests will go on as planned.

If they don’t, we will be in a brave new world and no one really knows what will transpire.

Assuming the Selection Committee does gather to put together a bracket, here’s what we know about how the field will look.

Who Gets into the March Madness Field with Conference Tournaments Cancelled?

The following teams already qualified for the tournament before the shutdown:

Belmont Bruins: Ohio Valley Conference tournament champions

Bradley Braves: Missouri Valley Conference tournament champions

Boston Terriers: Patriot League tournament champions

East Tennessee State Buccaneers: Southern Conference tournament champions

Gonzaga Bulldogs: West Coast Conference tournament champions

Hofstra Pride: Colonial Conference tournament champions

Liberty Flames: Atlantic Sun tournament champions

North Dakota State Bison : Summit League tournament champions

Northern Kentucky Norse: Horizon League tournament champions

Robert Morris Colonials: Northeast Conference tournament champions

Utah State Aggies: Mountain West tournament champions

Winthrop Eagles: Big South tournament champions

Yale Bulldogs: Ivy League regular-season champions

With the remainder of the conference tournaments canceled, it is likely that the following regular-season champions will receive the remaining automatic bids into the tournament.

ACC: Florida State Seminoles

America East: Vermont Catamounts

Atlantic 10: Dayton Flyers

Big 12: Kansas Jayhawks

Big Sky: Eastern Washington Eagles
