Colman Domingo has been busy lately. The “Rustin” star is reportedly in early talks to join iconic director Steven Spielberg’s next project. While details about the film are scarce, as things tend to be in Hollywood, the project reportedly already has a cast that includes Colin Firth, Emily Blunt, and Eve Hewson. Deadline Hollywood has was first to report Domingo’s talks and early attachments.

What we do know is the film is based on an original story by Spielberg, with frequent collaborator David Koepp serving as the screenwriter. Spielberg’s Amblin and Universal are set to produce, along with Kristie Macosko Krieger. The project is currently slated for a May 15, 2026 release, hinting at its potential to be a summer blockbuster.

Get this, Deadline notes that the film is “in the summer tentpole zone Spielberg practically created decades ago with such films as Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Given Koepp’s history of writing major summer films like Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and Jurassic Park, this project may follow in the footsteps of these high-profile blockbusters. Additionally, Koepp’s work on the cult classic Death Becomes Her suggests there could be some comedic elements in Spielberg’s new film.

Though Domingo has not previously worked with Spielberg directly, he did star in the musical adaptation of The Color Purple, which Spielberg produced. This past collaboration might have influenced Spielberg’s decision to consider Domingo for his new film.

Looks like big things all around for Domingo and Spielberg.

New York City lit up tonight as Lionsgate hosted the world premiere of Never Let Go at Regal Times Square. Academy Award® winner and executive producer Halle Berry, along with co-stars Anthony B. Hollywood star Michael B. Jordan is set to both direct and star in the upcoming remake of The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios. This is a big deal and another notch on the belt for Jordan as a director.

In addition to leading the project, Jordan will produce the film alongside Elizabeth Raposo through his production company, Outlier Society.

Get this, although Jordan has been linked to a Thomas Crown Affair remake for several years (with the most recent significant update surfacing in 2021), this marks the first confirmation that he will also be directing the film.

Okay if you’re not up on your movie history, the story has seen two major cinematic versions: the 1999 film starring Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, and the original 1968 version featuring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. The plot follows a wealthy man who pulls off an elaborate heist, only to face a clever and seductive investigator determined to bring him down. In the 1968 version, McQueen played a charismatic bank executive who engaged in a mental and emotional duel with Dunaway’s insurance investigator. The 1999 adaptation saw Brosnan as a “rich and successful playboy” who steals art for fun, with Russo taking on the role of the detective tasked with investigating his illicit activities.

What’s more is specifics of the new remake remain under wraps. Deadline reports that the script—initially penned by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, later revised by Drew Pearce—is based on the 1968 film.

Even still, Jordan is staying busy with multiple projects. According to Deadline, he has wrapped up production on a secretive vampire movie with Ryan Coogler. Additionally, he will star in I Am Legend 2 under the direction of Steven Caple Jr., and serve as an executive producer for The Greatest, a biographical series about Muhammad Ali.

Meagan Good is reportedly holding down her man. According to The Jasmine Brand, she is stepping in to assist her bae, Jonathan Majors, with his life expenses following his legal issues.

An insider says Good supported Majors after his court case for allegedly abusing his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.

“Meagan pays for everything,” a source said. “They really wanted this dog, and she got stuck paying the $75,000 training bill. Like, that’s crazy!”

The source added, “No one knows what Meagan sees in this guy. If things keep up this way, she may not be able to pay her mortgage.”

Jonathan Majors is ready to marry Meagan Good. While strolling in California, he was shocked when asked about his plans before answering, “Hell yes.”

“One thing I know is that I can always look in the mirror when I trust my spirit, when I trust God, when I ask God, and when I move to the beat of my own drum… I can always look and say, ‘Okay, I’m proud of that.’”

Good further emphasized her sense of peace and harmony when following her own path. “No matter whatever happens, I have peace in my heart and have harmony in my heart. And it’s only when I do something based on someone else saying ‘well I think you should do this… I take everyone I love’s opinion into account, but at the end of the day, I’m the one who has to live my life.”

Here’s how Good wrapped it up, “I want to be responsible for the choices I make and want to live the life that I want to live.”

Last week, September 4, Peacock celebrated the premiere of limited series FIGHT NIGHT: THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST at Jazz at Lincoln Center, followed by an exclusive after party in The Appel Room overlooking Columbus Circle and Central Park.

Coinciding with the eve of NY Fashion Week, the red carpet kicked off with a surprise fashion show in partnership with GQ. Drawing inspiration from the series, models showcased high-fashion 70s-inspired looks, blending retro styles with modern sophistication. Adding to the 70s flair, the red carpet featured a replica of Chicken Man’s (played by Kevin Hart) 1966 Cadillac Calais, custom-built by the renowned West Coast Customs.

Over 800 guests were ushered into the Rose Theater for a packed screening of the first two episodes, “Round One: The Ballad of Chicken Man” and “Round Two: Fight Night”. Following the screening, attendees enjoyed an exclusive after-party, emanating 70’s nightclub, complete beats from DJ Trauma, and a photo op with Roc Nation’s Lenny Santiago’s iconic gold couch.

Well, this looks different … Read, set, go …On Friday (Sept. 6) Quavo dropped a teaser trailer for his fans to his upcoming live-action CGI film “Takeover.” In true sign of the times fashion, the visual was posted on the Gram. 

Now it’s just a short clip but it features what appears to be a near-lifelike version of the rapper turned actor tearing up an Atlanta roadway with a child in the backseat – ouch – while a bald man sits in the front passenger seat, holding a gun to Quavo’s side. Okay, now we’re getting somewhere. 

The visual is pretty intense and also gives viewers a police chase, blending Atlanta’s street racing culture, specifically street takeovers, with a world of high-stakes crime. Sounds like the logline to us.

Okay, so according to “Variety”, the gist of “Takeover” centers around Gamal Akopyan, the leader of an international heist ring, who uses street takeovers to pull off massive robberies. After his latest heist goes wrong, Akopyan must navigate the dangerous Atlanta takeover scene to escape — with nine figures’ worth of diamonds in tow. In addition to Quavo, actor Billy Zane will also star in the film.

Here’s what Quavo said in a statement: 

”Takeover” is unlike anything you’ve seen before and will blow minds. This film brings a whole new vibe that’s about to change the game, and I’m really hyped to share it with my fans.”

If you didn’t know, because we didn’t, Atlanta has become a hot spot for street racing and sideshows, where drivers block off streets to perform car stunts, often in the midst of illegal activities. 

Not get this, the film’s hybrid format, combining live-action and animation, aims to capture the allure and controversy of these street takeovers. Interesting artistic take.

ICYMI, Quavo’s acting career has been on the rise since he made his debut alongside his Migos groupmates, Takeoff and Offset, with a guest spot on FX’s “Atlanta” in 2016. He later made his film debut in 2022, appearing alongside Robert De Niro, John Malkovich, and Jack Huston in “Savage Salvation”. In 2023, Quavo landed a prominent role in “Praise This”, and he recently starred in John Travolta’s action-heist film “Cash Out”.

Outside of gracing the big and small screen, Quavo has also contributed to film soundtracks. Alongside generating buzz for “Takeover”, he recently promoted his collaboration with Ty Dolla Sign, “If I Fall”, which will be featured on the soundtrack for “Transformers One”. In the track, Quavo raps, “I’m in my prime, Optimus (Optimus), I’m goin’ big, Megatron,” a nod to the iconic “Transformers” characters. The song will play during the film’s end credits when it hits theaters on September 20.

So the release date for “Takeover” has not yet been announced, the teaser has already stirred excitement among fans. Keep an eye out for further updates on this action-packed film.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die star Will Smith has officially taken his name out of the hat of the highly anticipated action-thriller “Sugar Bandits.” Now, the production is without its headline star. 

So what’s up with that? According to Deadline Hollywood, Smith’s departure is attributed to “scheduling conflicts.” That’s interesting, as most scheduling is lined up before stars commit to big tentpole projects, but what do we know? 

Still, it remains unclear which of his upcoming projects may have caused the alleged conflict. Smith has several projects in the pipeline, including the much-anticipated “I Am Legend 2,” in which he is set to co-star with Michael B. Jordan.

Get this: Smith’s exit places the film’s future in a weird position, especially regarding box office potential. Distributors had eagerly signed on to back the $80 million production at Cannes and the European Film Market (EFM), largely because of Smith’s involvement as the lead.

What’s interesting is Smith will continue to be attached to the project as a producer through his production company Westbrook, but finding a replacement actor who can carry the same star power is now a real concern.

There are some big shoes to fill and the clock is ticking. 

”Sugar Bandits” was scheduled to begin filming in the coming months. Despite the setback, the filmmakers are still eyeing a 2025 release date, but that will depend on how quickly a new lead can be secured.

What’s more, the film is set to be directed by Stefano Sollima (“Sicario: Day of the Soldado”) and is based on Chuck Hogan’s novel Devils in Exile. 

The story centers on a former special forces soldier who leads a team of vigilantes to take down Boston’s drug trade. Hogan is also attached as the film’s screenwriter.

Deadline wrote in their report that Smith’s departure “throws a major wrench into the film’s production schedule,” and without a new lead, the distributors who initially supported the project may reevaluate their commitment. Whether a new actor can step into the role and satisfy the high expectations that distributors and fans alike had for the film with Smith in the driver’s seat remains to be seen.

‘1992’ is a gripping crime-thriller set against the backdrop of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. 

The film centers on a father, Mercer, who becomes caught up in a dangerous heist while desperately trying to protect his son from criminals during the chaos that erupted after the Rodney King verdict.

Snoop Dogg is an executive producer. Here’s what he said …

“1992 was a life-changing time for me, from “Deep Cover” to “The Chronic.” But as things in my life were coming together, everything in LA was coming apart. “1992” is a heist movie that really captures all of that. This movie is about an LA moment. Ariel made an outstanding film that depicts this moment in time. From my first encounter with Tyrese in “Baby Boy” to the performance in “1992,” I had to be a part of this. And it’s only fitting that the film come out under Death Row Pictures as Death Row is synonymous with LA culture in the 90’s, ya dig?”

The film boasts an ensemble cast including Clé Bennett, Dylan Arnold, Christopher A’mmanuel, Michael Beasley, Ori Pfeffer, Tosin Morohunfola, and Oleg Taktarov. 

What’s more “1992” also stars Scott Eastwood and the late great Ray Liotta in one of his final film roles.

Will Smith and Paramount Pictures are the center of a seven-figure lawsuit, as science fiction author Kissinger Sibanda accuses them of copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that the 2019 film Gemini Man plagiarized Sibanda’s 2011 novel The Return to Gibraltar.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Sibanda, an American/South African national who is also an attorney, alleges that the concept of Gemini Man—which follows a former hitman targeted by a younger clone of himself—bears significant similarities to his book. Sibanda’s novel centers around an African American character cloned and unwillingly involved in a time-traveling program, a narrative he believed would be a perfect fit for Will Smith as the lead.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants, including Will Smith, Skydance Productions, Gemini Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and others, copied themes, plots, characterizations, and cultural subtexts from The Return to Gibraltar to create Gemini Man. Sibanda also alleges that after releasing his book in 2011, the defendants altered their marketing strategy for the film, reflecting the ideas from his novel.

Gemini Man, directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith, had been in development since 1997. Various A-list actors have been attached over the years. The screenplay was credited to Darren Lemke, David Benioff, and Billy Ray, without mentioning Sibanda’s work.

Sibanda’s lawsuit states that he shared his book idea with Will Smith’s stunt double in 2012, although he admits he cannot recall the stunt double’s name. He believes limited discovery could reveal the individual, as the defendants likely have records of Smith’s stunt doubles. Sibanda also claims to have sent a copy of his book to William Morris Endeavor, a top Hollywood talent agency, further bolstering his argument that his work was appropriated.

In 2020, Sibanda sent a legal letter to the defendants seeking a resolution, but he alleges he never received a response. Instead, he claims the defendants offered a “zero-dollar walk away,” prompting him to file the lawsuit demanding $1.7 million in damages.

Despite its high-profile cast and reported budget of $138 million, Gemini Man was not a commercial success, grossing only $173 million worldwide. Currently, Will Smith and the other defendants have yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Last week, acclaimed director Lee Daniels unveiled his latest film, The Deliverance, on Netflix, receiving rave reviews for its chilling narrative and gripping performances. However, the story behind the scenes may be just as unnerving as the film itself. Daniels, known for pushing the boundaries of cinema, revealed in a recent interview that strange and eerie events plagued the production, despite his efforts to protect the cast and crew from any supernatural influences.

In a candid town hall interview hosted by SiriusXM’s Bevy Smith, Daniels recounted his decision to bring a spiritual deliverer onto the set after reading about the terrifying occurrences that befell the productions of horror classics like The Exorcist and Poltergeist. Daniels wanted to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone involved, particularly as The Deliverance explores themes of demonic possession and paranormal activity.

“Things happen, and I was not gonna let things happen on my set, and also I needed it for me,” Daniels explained. “And so we prayed before every [scene] — and there’s those of us that don’t believe in prayer.” Despite the prayers and spiritual precautions, several unsettling incidents still transpired, leading Daniels to believe that something otherworldly may have been at play.

Among the most disturbing occurrences was the sudden illness of Daniels’ sister, who has appeared in every one of his films as a good luck charm. Shortly after filming a scene with Glenn Close, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, a shocking and heartbreaking development for the director. “She was in the scene with Glenn in the chemo scene, and she’s the one that sort of gave her attitude in the chemo scene,” Daniels shared. “And two days later, after being in the chemo scene, she was diagnosed with lung cancer — literally. My dog died on the set.”

The film’s star-studded cast, including Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Andra Day, and Demi Singleton, also experienced strange happenings during production. Mo’Nique, who plays a key role in the thriller, revealed that she was hospitalized after a particularly grueling scene.

“Mr. Daniels had me doing a scene, okay? And we’re outside,” Mo’Nique recounted. “The demon was supposed to be on top of the building, so they kept blowing this — I mean, at one point I’m like, ‘Lee, do we have this s— because I can’t breathe.’ They kept blowing. He was like, ‘One more time. One more time.’ So when I got finished, right, my thyroid was big, I mean, it was just sick. Oh baby. I was like, ‘What kind of s— is this?’ It was a lot of things happening with The Deliverance.”

The Deliverance follows a family in Indiana who become convinced that their house is a portal to hell after experiencing a series of strange and demonic occurrences. The film’s blend of psychological horror and supernatural elements has already captivated audiences, but the real-life events that haunted its production have only added to its mystique.

As The Deliverance continues to gain momentum on Netflix, viewers might find themselves wondering just how much of the horror on screen was influenced by the very real fears and strange occurrences that took place behind the camera. More dinosaurs are on the way. The latest installment in the “Jurassic World” franchise now has an official title: “Jurassic World Rebirth.” How ya’ll feel about that?

The Universal Pictures project is positioning this as a fresh chapter in the long-running series. The star-studded cast includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey.

The leads are flanked by Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.

The film is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, who co-wrote the original “Jurassic Park”, based on characters created by Michael Crichton.

Gareth is Godzilla. Just saying. Could be a goodie.

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. André 3000, one of Hip Hop’s great craftsmen, writers and performers, brings his woodwind passion full circle today with the world premiere of the album’s official visual component, Listening To The Sun (an intimate album film for New Blue Sun 11/17/2023), a 90-minute long short film (or visual listening session). The feature, directed by Terence Nance (Random Acts of Flyness) and premiered on YouTube, is a performance art piece that finds André physically channeling the spirit of his latest studio album set in a serene, blue-lit setting with his aura and flute taking centerstage. 

“I hope you enjoy the ride as much as we did. What you hear is what we did as it was happening,” André 3000 says about the “formations” that comprise New Blue Sun at the onset of his new short film. The artist and multihyphenate, with the help of just a few props (including a lit candle and a traffic cone), provides a captivating visual companion to his first studio album, which will perhaps serve as inspiration for how to experience the eight-track LP. 

André was candid with GQ in a November cover story about his inspirations behind the album. “I’d like to make things that when I’m dead and gone 3,000 years from now, people may dig up and find,” he said. “So if that’s sculpting, if that’s actually physical artwork, painting, designing instruments, that’s where I’m at right now.” The Atlanta-bred artist’s audience, cultivated during parts of three decades, is on that journey with him. 

New Blue Sun peaked at no. 1 on Billboard’s New Age and Current Alternative Albums charts, as well as Apple Music’s Alternative Albums chart following its release, in addition to a no. 2 peak on iTunes Albums and Apple Music overall albums charts, massive performances for the thematically tangential release. The album’s staying power has matched its intrigue, as it peaks once again at no. 1 on the Current Alternative Albums Chart this week, to go with a no. 2 slot on the LP Vinyl Chart. André and his flute have got something to say, and the world is both listening and witnessing it live. André 3000 will tour his debut LP for the second time this year in September, when he kicks off a 26-date North American trek beginning September 19 in New Orleans, and concludes on November 14 in André’s hometown of Atlanta.

It seems like Bad Bunny is getting into his acting bag more these days. The Latin music superstar just joined the star-studded cast of Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming crime thriller “Caught Stealing.”

Bad Bunny will share the screen with Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, and Regina King. Just a few A-list stars. No big deal.

Get this: Deadline first reported Bad Bunny’s casting in the film, based on the novel by Charlie Huston. The plot centers on Hank Thompson (played by Butler), a former baseball player whose life spirals into chaos as he becomes entangled in the criminal underworld of 1990s New York City.

However, details about Bad Bunny’s role are kept close to the vest. His addition to the cast adds to the film’s buzz. He joins a lineup that includes Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Will Brill.

As we mentioned, Bad Bunny has been steadily building his acting career. He made his on-screen debut in Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico in 2021 and later starred alongside Brad Pitt in David Leitch’s Bullet Train.

According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Berry alleges that Martinez is causing “detrimental harm” to their son by requesting a delay in their upcoming custody hearing. She argues that Maceo, who has been diagnosed with ADHD, specific learning disorders, and mild dyslexia, is struggling academically and is “grade levels” behind in school. Berry claims that Martinez is either “oblivious” to their son’s challenges or is “carelessly disregarding them,” raising concerns about his fitness to make decisions for Maceo.

Berry further alleges that by delaying the custody hearing, Martinez is postponing a “ruling on interventions necessary for the parties’ struggling child” and is using the situation as leverage to “extract” more money from her. She also dismissed Martinez’s claim that he needs to hire an expert to testify on his behalf as “nonsensical,” noting that the third-party witnesses she has called know Maceo intimately.

In response, Martinez filed his own documents, accusing Berry of trying to “bootstrap her way into an immediate hearing” and giving him the “absolute minimum” time to prepare. He claims that Berry is “refusing” to set a hearing date that accommodates his schedule and has denied his request for assistance in covering legal fees despite her substantial earnings. Martinez asserts that he is being unfairly kept from properly defending himself in court and that Berry’s actions are an attempt to “railroad him into” a hasty decision.

Martinez argues that he “cannot be forced to give up his right to discovery or to have sufficient time to prepare his response” simply because Berry is pushing for an expedited hearing. His filings emphasize that he is entitled to a fair opportunity to present his case, especially given the serious nature of the custody dispute.

The horror film “Goons”, is ratcheting up their cast. Starring Chloe Bailey and Michael Rainey Jr., added J. Alphonse Nicholson, YG, and Tyler Lepley. 

Also coming on board are SteVonté Hart and Serayah McNeil. The movie is currently being filmed in New Orleans and nearby areas. 

So basically, specific plot details are still under wraps, it is known that the film is set “in the eerie backdrop of Louisiana cane fields and plantations.”

Get this, ”Goons” is the first project under Confluential Films’ new genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions, which focuses on “bold, elevated, culturally specific horror films from creators of color.” 

Behind the camera is Gerard McMurray, known for “The First Purge” and “Burning Sands”, the film was co-written by McMurray and Hodge K. Johnson. Confluential Films founder and CEO Tommy Oliver is producing and fully financing the film.

Hopefully we’ll learn more about the film’s premise soon but as for the title, Goons, we’re here for it.

Jennifer Lopez just filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. Whelp, it finally happened. Sadly, we all saw it coming: the seeming separation, Ben moving into a different house, and rumors of all the run-of-the-mill unhappy this and that floating around the interwebs. Now it looks official.

Our friends at TMZ broke the story. 

J Lo filed legal documents on Tuesday in the L.A. County Superior Court, but a lawyer did not file them. Jennifer filed pro per, meaning by herself and without an attorney. 

Lopez lists April 26, 2024, as the date of separation from Ben Affleck. The couple, who tied the knot in a Las Vegas ceremony on July 16, 2022, also held a more traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia on August 20, 2022. 

Check this out: Lopez filed for divorce on the second anniversary of that larger celebration, suggesting the timing may not be coincidental. Damn.

Lopez did not specify whether the couple had a prenuptial agreement in the divorce documents. 

Sources who know what’s up informed TMZ that there is no prenup in place. This means that any earnings or profits the couple made would likely be involved in the divorce proceedings. 

If anyone is counting, this marks Lopez’s fourth marriage and Affleck’s second, which, to be honest, makes the absence of a prenuptial agreement shocking. 

According to the filed documents, Lopez has waived spousal support and is requesting that the judge deny it to Affleck as well. Look, they’re both seemingly very well off, so this is a nonissue.

Luckily, since the now-broken-up couple did not have kids together, there are no custody issues to resolve.

DeAna Fai continues on a Christmas spree with her songs in Rom Com holiday features including A Kismet Holiday. After winning the 2024 Essence Film Festival Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature Film, A Kismet Holiday is set to be released later this year. The film is linked to a credible cast which stars Kym Whitley, Elle Varner, Lamman Rucker, Joyful Drake, Derrick A. King, and Asiahn. The Romantic Holiday Comedy was produced by Chuck and Bree West, both known for Remy Ma’s “Godmother” music video, “A Wesley Christmas,” “Stalked Within,” and the “Hush” TV series. DeAna Fai’s “Christmas Love” and “Ready For Christmas” are synced in the film and is the project’s theme. The records have elements of pop, disco and funk however, DeAna Fai has a way of keeping the hip-hop spirit alive in her music. DeAna Fai is linked to Hip-Hop mogul Karine “Sho-Time” Thornton of Sho-Time Battle Rap League, and he also appears in her “Ready For Christmas” music video at which the song itself is in the Jury Award winning feature.

A recent social media post showed DeAna Fai supporting all the cast and crew for the big win at the Essence Film Festival, although no pictures have surfaced from the star with her presence attending the celebration. A source close to the artist claims other projects were underway suggesting the reason for her absence. Aside from her singing and writing catchy melodies for the holiday season, it would not be a surprise if the Pop, and RnB artist were involved in some acting roles. The songstress appeared on the Fox Television network as an upscale bar patron on the TV Series Empire and has released two Christmas related music videos within the last two years showcasing her talent as an actress. The Source had an opportunity to attend the New York City screening of Lionsgate’s ‘1992’, directed by Ariel Vromen, hosted by Chuck Creekmur. This film is a captivating, high-energy drama that immerses viewers in the chaos of the 1992 Los Angeles riots. This action-packed film masterfully weaves together themes of family and survival, delivering a story that’s both thrilling and emotionally resonant.

At the heart of ‘1992’ is Mercer, played by Tyrese Gibson, a shopkeeper determined to rebuild his life and set a positive example for his son amidst the crumbling streets of Los Angeles. As the city spirals into turmoil, Mercer faces intense personal challenges, all while trying to restore a fractured relationship with his son. ”Alien: Romulus” is next up in the summer blockbuster movie season. The newest installment in the “Alien” franchise is set to make a heart ripping splash in with a projected global debut between $70 and $80 million. Not bad. Actually pretty good for a franchise that had it’s last film in 2017 with Alien: Covenant. For context purposes, that less than loved prequel grossed about $240 million worldwide.

Anyway, it appears Disney isn’t playing as the studio continues to dominate the summer box office. 

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is now targeting $1.14 billion and “Inside Out 2” leading the 2024 charts with over $1.6 billion, making it the biggest movie of the year so far. Wow. One, two, and now three punch.

The new Alien film is directed by Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote it with Rodo Sayagues. So far the critics agree with 83% favorable ratings from over 150 critics. 

Get this if “Alien: Romulus” performs in the ballpark of”Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes”—which smashed it at the box office with nearly $400 million, then 20th Century Studios and Disney can see a good run, especially with the film’s not too insane budget of $80 million. 

Meanwhile as mentioned, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is projected to reach $1.08 billion by the weekend and is expected to earn an additional $65 million globally over the weekend.  Insane. 

This will likely push the film toward $1.14 billion, surpassing “Joker”‘s 2019 earnings of $1.078 billion to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in cinema history.

Seems like a good run for theatrical releases this summer. The numbers don’t lie.

In the latest edition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wesley Snipes reprised his role as Blade but he is not the only one who could have made a return. Halle Berry revealed to ComicBook.com that she was prepared to become X-Men’s Storm again.

So what was the hold-up? Ryan Reynolds never asked, even after Berry told his wife, Blake Lively, who also made a cameo, that she would join.

“Blake [Lively] asked me one time — I ran into her at a Marc Jacobs fashion show — and she said, ‘Would you ever be in my husband’s movie as Storm?’ I said, ‘Yeah, if he asked me,’ but he never asked me.”

You will be able to see Berry in a new movie on Netflix, The Union, where she stars alongside Mark Wahlberg.

Jussie Smollett’s latest film, “The Lost Holliday”, just dropped a trailer. Directed by and starring Smollett, the film features an ensemble cast including Vivica A. Fox, Jabari Redd, Cynthia Bailey, and more.

The new film debuted at the 2024 American Black Film Festival earlier this year.

Here’s the official Synopsis:

Vivica A. Fox stars as Cassandra Marshall, who arrives in Los Angeles to plan the funeral of her estranged son, Damien Holliday. Upon her arrival, Cassandra discovers that the funeral arrangements are already being handled by her son’s husband, Jason Holliday (played by Jussie Smollett)—a man and a marriage she knew nothing about. Through Jason, their adopted daughter Arielle, Jason’s sister Cheyenne, and his best friend Duck, Cassandra learns more about her son in death than she ever did in his life.

So the cast also includes Marquise Vilsón, Brittany S. Hall, Miriam A. Hyman, Londyn Carter, Memphis Cade, Corey Knott, Alex “ADIV” Duncan IV, Betty Coleman, Bella Bahhs, Gina Belafonte, and Leslie D. Baker.

Get this: Jussie Smollett co-wrote the script with Jerrell Chesney and serves as a producer alongside Mona Scott-Young and Tressa Azarel Smallwood. Vivica A. Rising star Myha’la, best known for her roles in HBO’s “Industry” and Netflix’s “Leave the World Behind,” has joined the cast of the upcoming horror film “They Will Kill You,” alongside Zazie Beetz. 

According to Deadline, the New Line film, backed by Skydance and Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s Nocturna, features a stellar cast including Patricia Arquette, Heather Graham, and Tom Felton. An all-star cast is on the way. 

Behind the scenes for the film include producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, the Muschiettis, and Dan Karan. Executive producers are Russell Ackerman, John Schoenfelder, Kirill Sokolov, Alex Litvak, and Carl Hampe. The Muschiettis launched the horror-focused Nocturna last year in collaboration with Skydance. 

Kirill Sokolov will direct the film and co-wrote the script with Alex Litvak. 

Get this: In addition to “They Will Kill You,” Myha’la is set to star alongside Lily James in “Swiped,” an upcoming 20th Century Studios film about Bumble/Tinder founder Whitney Wolfe Herd. Her recent film credits also include Sony’s “Dumb Money” and the A24 thriller “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.”

“Get Out” star LaKeith Stanfield is reportedly in discussions to join the cast of Lynne Ramsay’s upcoming thriller Die, My Love. The upcoming feature film already has a star-studded lineup. Get this: “Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence and “The Batman”Robert Pattinson are set to star as well. Ramsay co-penned the script with Enda Walsh.

So here’s the rundown. The film is an adaptation of Argentine author Ariana Harwicz’s novel. 

According to a report by Deadline, it is “set in a remote, forgotten rural area.” It centers around “a mother who struggles to maintain her sanity as she battles with psychosis.” Details about Stanfield’s role are currently under wraps.

The production team is no joke. Behind the camera, Martin Scorsese, Andrea Calderwood, Black Label Media, and Justine Ciarrocchi, alongside Lawrence under her Excellent Cadaver banner, are involved. Black Label Media is also financing the project.

ICYMI, Stanfield’s recent film credits include Disney’s “The Haunted Mansion” and Sony’s “The Book of Clarence”. He also starred in and executive produced the Apple TV+ series “The Changeling”. The Oscar-nominated actor’s upcoming projects include “Play Dirty”, “El Paso, Elsewhere”, and “Lear Rex”, the latter of which he recently joined.

Looks like LaKeith is staying busy and this one might be one of those!

Legal documents have revealed Kevin Hart ingested Molly during the weekend he cheated on his wife in 2017. The moment resulted in Hart issuing an apology online.

Page Six obtained a copy of the deposition logged in the Los Angeles Superior Court, included in a lawsuit from Jonathan “JT” Jackson against Hart. An unidentified friend revealed Hart initially denied the drug before telling, DAI Robin Letourneau, “F–k it, I said, and I put it in my drink.”

He added, “I had some water there. It was watered down. Because it’s in my drink, I’m fine. I’m fine with drinking. The night is good.”

Hart revealed he then went with the woman he cheated with, Montia Sabbag, and another woman named Morgan to his hotel room. The pair fell asleep. “I had sex with her the following morning. She woke me up,” Hart said.

He later realized Montia would attempt to lead him to the hidden camera where Hart was filmed in an alleged extortion attempt. Jackson would be arrested and charged with two felony counts of extortion that would be dropped.

Now, Jackson is seeking $12 million in damages.

In other Hart extortion news, the comedian filed a lawsuit against his former personal assistant, Miesha Shakes, and gossip vlogger Tasha K, accusing them of attempting to extort him. Now, Shakes is fighting back, seeking dismissal from the lawsuit.

In Touch reports that Miesha Shakes has asked a Los Angeles judge to remove her from the bombshell civil extortion case. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Shakes denies all allegations of wrongdoing brought against her by Hart, 45.

Last year, Hart sued Shakes over an interview she did with YouTuber Tasha K. He claimed that Shakes made false statements and disclosed information she learned during her employment with him, which violated a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) she signed after leaving her position. Shakes worked for Hart from 2017 to 2020.

Shakes’ legal team argued that Hart “failed to plead specifically which statements they contend are false and defamatory or which facts [he] contends are true and an invasion of privacy.” They also stated that Hart’s claims are barred “because the statements challenged as false and defamatory, to the extent they can be determined, are substantially true.”

Moreover, Shakes asserted that her statements were not defamatory and “constitute expressions of protection opinion.” She claimed she did not act with malice and did not cause Hart any damage.

Regarding the NDA, Shakes’ lawyer argued that the contract was “invalid/illegal and cannot be enforced based on mental or physical incapacity which prevented [Miesha] from having the legal capacity to enter into or understand the alleged contract(s).”

Peacock’s limited series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist packed a punch with a star-studded panel and closing night party at Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival.

The evening kicked off with beats from DJ Trauma ahead of the festival’s founders, Stephanie and Floyd Rance, who introduced the closing night programming starting with POWER OF LEGACY AND INFLUENCE: A CONVERSATION WITH WILL PACKER — a retrospective discussion between the series’ executive producer Will Packer and journalist Danielle Cadet, held on Roc Nation’s Lenny Santiago’s iconic gold couch.

The sold-out screening of Peacock’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist screened for the first time, and the audience then heard from Will Packer, showrunner, creator, and executive producer Shaye Ogbonna, and cast members Taraji P. Henson, Don Cheadle and Chloe Bailey, moderated by journalist Tiffany Cross.

Scarface fans are saddened after the news of the passing of one of the film’s co-stars, Angel Salazar, reportedly passed away over the weekend in Brooklyn.

Salazar was 68 years old.

Salazar was staying at a friend’s house, and when the friend went to check on Salazar in the morning to wake him up, they found his body in the bed, according to his rep and closest friend, Ann Wingsong.

Salazar is best known for his role as “Chi Chi”, the quiet, trustworthy member of Scarface’s crew in the Brian De Palma-directed film, and was most recognized in the bloody hotel scene on Miami Beach when Tony Montana yelled to his partner, “Chi Chi, get the yayo..”

Outside of his work in Scarface, Salazar was also known for playing opposite Tom Hanks in the 1988 drama/comedy Punchline and Pacino again in the 1993 drama Carlito’s Way.

Condolences go out to Salazar’s fans, family and friends.

Here’s more about the upcoming mysterious buddy comedy starring SZA and Keke Palmer/ The project is picking up steam and just added several new cast members.

Variety, broke the story, as they normally do and the still-untitled comedy film project from TriStar Pictures added Dewayne Perkins, the creator and star of “The Blackening”, along with Gabrielle Dennis from “A Black Lady Sketch Show”, DomiNque Perry from “Diarra from Detroit”, and Amin Joseph from “Snowfall”. Additional cast members include Tony Baker, Nefetari Spencer, and Rizi Timane. Sounds like they’re picking and choosing their talent carefully and wisely. 

These new exciting additions join an already star-studded lineup that includes Lil Rel Howery, Katt Williams, Janelle James, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Joshua Neal, Patrick Cage, and Aziza Scott.

Get this, while the plot and character details are being kept tightly under wraps, the film is expected to resonate with fans of “Insecure” and “Rap Sh!t”. The film is produced by Issa Rae, who is also known for her work on those two series, with Syreeta Singleton, the showrunner for “Rap Sh!t”, writing the screenplay. Lawrence Lamont, who directed “Rap Sh!t”, is set to direct this project as well.

From behind the camera, MACRO Film Studios is both producing and co-financing the film. Keke Palmer will also serve as an executive producer through her production company, Big Boss, alongside Big Boss executive Sharon Palmer. Singleton, Rae, and Sara Diya Rastogi are producing through Rae’s production company, Hoorae. Additionally, Deniese Davis from ColorCreative and MACRO’s Charles D. Actor Jonathan Majors is facing another legal hurdle as his newly appointed legal team requests more time to respond to a defamation of character lawsuit filed by his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. This request comes after Majors, 34, hired new representation last month to handle the ongoing case.

According to reports Majors’ legal team filed a motion asking the judge to extend the deadline for their response from August 15 to September 19. Court documents reveal that the request was made to allow Majors’ attorneys to gather all relevant case files and to continue crucial discussions with Jabbari’s legal team.

“The Parties are in agreement that an extension beyond August 15, 2024 is necessary for the following reasons; (1) [Jonathan’s] counsel is still in the process of gathering the relevant file with respect to the case; and (2) counsel for [Grace] and [Jonathan] are currently engaged in important dialogue regarding the case and need additional time to have these extensive discussions,” stated Majors’ attorney in the filing.

Grace Jabbari, 31, filed the lawsuit accusing Majors of assault, battery, and defamation. The lawsuit follows a previous legal battle where Majors was found guilty of misdemeanor third-degree assault and second-degree assault in January. However, he was acquitted on other charges related to the incident with Jabbari, which occurred in March 2023.

Majors has consistently denied all claims of wrongdoing. The ongoing legal challenges have cast a shadow over his career, and the outcome of this defamation lawsuit could have significant implications for his future.

Power Book II star Michael Rainey Jr. and multi-hyphenate Chloe Bailey are on deck to star in the upcoming horror film “Goons,” directed and co-written by Gerard McMurray, known for franchise favorite “The First Purge.” 

The first announcement of “Goons” was initially reported by Deadline.

Get this, the film is being developed under Confluential Films’ new horror label, New Fear Unlocked Productions, which has a mission to produce “bold, elevated, culturally specific horror films from creators of color.” That’s what the industry needs, if we may say so ourselves.

Hodge K. Johnson co-penned the script with McMurray. Tommy Oliver, the CEO and founder of Confluential Films, is producing the project, which is fully financed by Confluential.

Check out the rollout … ”Goons” will be the first release from New Fear Unlocked Productions. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the film is set against the eerie backdrop of Louisiana’s cane fields and plantations.

“I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are cooking up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. I also couldn’t be more excited to kick off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director,” said Oliver.

McMurray expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. ‘Goons’ is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film along with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked shows the power of Black storytellers with a collaborative spirit.”

The legendary Wesley Snipes made a surprise return as Blade in the new “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie, despite Marvel’s recent recasting of the character for its upcoming Blade franchise. This unexpected cameo not only delighted fans but also secured Snipes two Guinness World Records.

Variety reports that Snipes has broken records for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character and the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films. His appearance as the half-vampire “daywalker” in this superhero threequel comes 25 years and 340 days after he first portrayed Blade in 1998’s “Blade.” This achievement surpasses his co-star Hugh Jackman, whose tenure as Wolverine began 24 years ago in 2000’s “X-Men.”

Additionally, Snipes’ return as Blade marked the longest gap between character appearances in Marvel films. He last played Blade 19 years and 231 days ago in 2004’s “Blade: Trinity,” beating Alfred Molina’s 17-year hiatus between his roles as Doc Ock in 2004’s “Spider-Man 2” and 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

Move over Nollywood as the Africa’s only thriving film market that because Idris Elba has been granted land in Zanzibar to establish a film studio, as reported by the BBC. 

Okay Hollywood is in Nigeria and that’s the world’s third largest film market after Hollywood and Bollywood in India. 

The UK actor and DJ best known for roles in The Wire and Luthor, received approval to contribute to the burgeoning film industry in the Tanzanian archipelago. Zanzibar’s investment minister, Shariff Ali Shariff, mentioned at the Zanzibar International Film Festival that the studio could rival those in “Hollywood, Nollywood, or Bollywood” and might be dubbed “Zollywood.”

Zollywood. That sounds fun but feels a long way from competing with established film hubs around the world. 

Get this, Elba, who grew up in East London and has familial ties to Sierra Leone and Ghana, has previously expressed his ambition to help develop the film industry in Africa. According to a spokesperson for the president of Zanzibar, “If successful, the project will help not only Tanzania but also eastern and central Africa.”

Back in February 2023, Elba discussed his plans for a film studio in Ghana, saying: “Currently, we call it West African Studios, but that’s a working title. We’ve been working on this for three or four years to raise a plan that puts a facility at the centre of African filmmaking.”

We’re all for bringing commerce to the continent. Somebody has to plant more money trees so why not Idris.

According to IndieWire, as expected, the film topped iTunes’ transaction rankings and Fandango’s revenue charts, boosting its already successful run. 

Get this, the film was released 47 days after its theatrical premiere, and the VOD version of “Ride or Die” includes an exclusive post-credits scene, enticing fans to purchase the digital copy. See that’s smart creative marketing. 

Despite its availability on VOD, the film remains a box office contender, currently within the top 10 and edging closer to the $400 million mark globally. So basically let that movie cook in theaters, because it is not done!

Check out these numbers, as of now, it has grossed $395.3 million worldwide, with $203.5 million from international markets and $191.8 million from North American theaters.

Oh but wait, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is on track to challenge the franchise record set by “Bad Boys for Life,” which earned $426 million in 2020. The franchise’s total earnings have recently surpassed $1.2 billion, largely due to the latest installment’s success.

Naturally, this film marks a significant milestone in Will Smith’s career, serving as a notable comeback. We all love a good comeback story. Get this: Deadline Hollywood reports that the cast now includes Lil Rel Howery, Katt Williams, Janelle James, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Maude Apatow, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia. Joshua Neal, Patrick Cage, and Aziza Scott have also joined this intriguing ensemble.

Despite the lineup, the plot details remain closely guarded but promise to be a goodie with laughs and surprises. 

The project originated from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures, a collaboration between ColorCreative and Sony aimed at identifying and nurturing emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop their first studio feature based on original concepts. That is exactly what the industry needs: original ideas from diverse upcoming filmmakers. Period.

As previously stated in earlier Deadline reporting: “The project came together from the CoCre lab at Sony Pictures with plot details being kept under wraps. The lab was a previous pact between ColorCreative and Columbia Pictures to source and incubate emerging, diverse screenwriters to develop and write their first studio feature based on original ideas.”

Who’s who is making this one? As mentioned, Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi are producing through Hoorae, with Deniese Davis producing through ColorCreative. Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks produce via Macro Film Studios, while Keke and Sharon Palmer are executive producers through Big Boss. Singleton is serving as co-producer.

USHER, the globally acclaimed singer, songwriter, dancer, and entrepreneur, is set to bring an intimate concert experience to theaters this fall. AMC Theatres, Trafalgar Releasing, and Sony Music Vision have announced that USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS will premiere in cinemas worldwide for a limited run starting Sept. 12.

The concert film, captured during Paris Fashion Week at La Seine Musicale, combines the essence of Usher’s Vegas residencies with a French touch. It features hits like “Yeah!”, “My Boo” and “Love In This Club” from his 30-year career, with unique costumes and advanced lighting and effects. The film also offers a behind-the-scenes look at Usher’s life offstage, creating a global cinematic event.

“Paris was a special experience for me as an entertainer and for my fans,” said USHER. “I hope those who weren’t able to make it in person get to experience how special it was. As for those of you who were, I hope you experience the show and see what it takes to get there through a different lens.”

USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS will be shown in 2,000 cinemas worldwide, including around 1,000 in the United States. It will also be shown at AMC and ODEON locations and other theaters globally. Ticketing and screening details will be available at UsherinParis.com on Aug. 6 at 9:00 a.m. ET / 6:00 a.m. PT. Screenings will run from Sept. 12 to 15, varying by location.

Trafalgar Releasing, in partnership with AMC Theatres Distribution, will release the film. In the U.S. and international markets, AMC and ODEON will provide core marketing support. Sony Music Vision will distribute all rights, excluding theatrical.

USHER: RENDEZVOUS IN PARIS is directed by Anthony Mandler and produced by Arcovision, Kingdom Films, and Laffitte Group Productions. The producers are Anthony Mandler, Usher Raymond, and Ron Laffitte, with executive producers Aakomon Jones, Angelo Gopee, Kwesi Collisson, Tom Mackay, Richard Story, and Krista Wegener.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is a smash hit at the box office. The movie’s appeal is nationwide, and it became the highest-grossing film in Saudi Arabia’s history. Will Smith revealed the news on Instagram.

ICYMI, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” is the fourth high-octane installment in the action-comedy film franchise that began with the smash hit “Bad Boys” in 1995, followed by “Bad Boys II” in 2003 and “Bad Boys for Life” in 2020.

I have to point out that the success of “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” marked a significant comeback for Smith, who, unless you been under a rock, had faced major backlash in Hollywood after slapping presenter Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars. 

Bad Boys 4, as it’s commonly referred to, premiered in theaters worldwide on June 7 and reversed his fortunes.

Get this: according to When to Stream, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” will be available for digital streaming via premium video on demand (PVOD) starting July 23. 

While this streaming tracker is generally reliable with release dates, it noted that Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film’s distributor, has not confirmed this date, so it may be subject to change.

If familiar with most PVOD releases, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” will be available for purchase or rent on platforms such as Prime Video, AppleTV+, and VUDU. The film is listed for pre-order at $24.99, a typical price for digital purchases.

Regarding the box office performance of the latest Bad Boys, box office tracker The Numbers, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” has grossed $184.8 million domestically and $193.1 million internationally, totaling $377.9 million worldwide. The film had a production budget of $100 million, not including marketing costs.

So what does that all mean? Bad Boys: Ride or Die made a ton of cash in theaters, and soon, it’ll be in your home to press play, pause, or resume however you like!
