The family clarified that the two deaths, though only a day apart, were unrelated. “Michaela died before Elaine, and Elaine did not know of Michaela’s passing at the time of her procedure,” they wrote, adding that Elaine had already suffered the loss of three children many years ago and, by the grace of God, was spared the pain of losing a fourth.

Elaine DePrince was instrumental in Michaela’s life, adopting her from an orphanage in Sierra Leone and nurturing her love for ballet. DePrince’s family described her death as “sudden,” with her sister, Mia Mabinty DePrince, expressing profound heartbreak. “I am in a state of shock and deep sadness. My beautiful sister is no longer here,” Mia shared. The family’s statement also hailed Michaela as an “unforgettable inspiration,” whose influence spanned across the globe.

Michaela DePrince’s life was one of resilience and triumph. Born in 1995 in Kenema, Sierra Leone, she faced unimaginable adversity early on, losing both parents during the country’s brutal civil war. At just three years old, she was sent to an orphanage, where she was treated harshly due to her vitiligo, a skin condition that caused depigmentation. “The rumors are true. ‘The Prison Tapes’ will be discontinued until further notice,” Lanez wrote. “However, I think it’s important that my fans know the truth about the crooked a** sh*t that’s REALLY going on here. My cell was not raided and trashed because I learned how to record myself in prison or because I created ‘The Prison Tapes.’ I was shut down because the ‘HIGHER UPS’ figured out what I was really doing with ‘The Prison Tapes’ and how many inmates were being helped in a life changing way because of them.”

Lanez went on to describe the harsh realities of the prison system, particularly for Black and minority inmates, and revealed that his “Prison Tapes” were more than just a creative outlet—they were part of a larger plan to provide legal assistance to those in need. According to Lanez, the royalties from the music he created behind bars were being used to fund legal representation for hundreds of inmates, reopening cases and giving them a chance at freedom.

“Since the month of July, I’ve afforded legal representation for 472 inmates and actively reopened 476 cases,” Lanez claimed in his statement. “With the help of legal firm ‘UNITE THE PEOPLE,’ so many inmates will be returned to their families and loved ones. I’m naming this ‘The Hands of God Project.’”

Despite the setback, Lanez remains defiant, suggesting that the raid was an attempt to silence his efforts to bring attention to the injustices faced by incarcerated individuals. He ended his statement with a powerful message: “If ANYTHING happens to me, just know I went out in the blaze of glory trying to revolutionize the end of a mass incarceration era on our people.”

TMZ reports that the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, recently filed new legal documents requesting that the judge dismiss the suit without prejudice. Although the judge has not yet signed off on the request, it is expected to be a formality.

Joy deleted the Instagram post that sparked the lawsuit in July, but it had already garnered significant attention. 50 Cent’s decision to take legal action was seen as a move to protect his reputation, especially given the severe nature of the accusations.

However, it seems 50 Cent has had a change of heart. While the exact reasons for withdrawing the lawsuit remain unclear, the decision to dismiss the case without prejudice means that he retains the right to refile it in the future if he chooses to do so.

The pair, who share a son, have had a tumultuous history, often making headlines for their public disputes. For now, 50 Cent is stepping back from this particular legal battle, leaving the door open for possible reconciliation or further legal action down the road.

PleasrDAO, the crypto group that owns the sole physical copy of the Wu-Tang Clan’s one-of-a-kind album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, is locked in a legal battle with former pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli over his alleged retention of unauthorized copies of the album. The group has accused Shkreli of failing to fully comply with a court order to surrender all existing copies of the album and is now asking a federal judge to enforce a more thorough search of his possessions.

In a letter submitted to a New York federal court on September 6, PleasrDAO expressed doubts about Shkreli’s claims that he has handed over all duplicates of the album. The group pointed to Shkreli’s public boasts about distributing copies to others, raising concerns that he may still possess additional copies that could diminish the value of their $4.75 million purchase.

Shkreli, who acquired the album in 2015 before it was seized by the U.S. government following his conviction for securities fraud, submitted a sworn declaration on August 26 stating that he had found 15 files containing copies of the album on his Microsoft OneDrive. He asserted that he had searched all his “devices, electronic accounts, and other personal effects” in compliance with the court order.

However, PleasrDAO remains skeptical. In their court filing, the group argued that Shkreli’s search may have been incomplete, particularly since he acknowledged the existence of “storage facilities” where his personal effects were kept during his imprisonment. The group claimed that Shkreli provided no clear explanation for why these facilities had not been fully searched, leaving open the possibility that additional copies of the album are hidden away.

The group’s skepticism is fueled by Shkreli’s own statements. PleasrDAO referenced a public remark allegedly made by Shkreli in which he claimed, “Dude, you know I burned the album and sent it to like, 50 different chicks, right?” This statement, if true, contradicts Shkreli’s sworn declaration and supports PleasrDAO’s concerns that more copies may exist.

The controversy stems from PleasrDAO’s 2021 purchase of the album from the U.S. Justice Department, which had seized it from Shkreli as part of his forfeited assets. The DAO bought the album with the understanding that it was the only existing copy, and they are now selling partial ownership of the record through non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

In June, PleasrDAO sued Shkreli, accusing him of retaining copies of the album in violation of their agreement. The group is seeking a court order to permanently seize any remaining copies in Shkreli’s possession and to prevent him from financially exploiting the album.

Shkreli, for his part, has argued that any copies he made were created under the terms of his original purchase agreement and are not subject to forfeiture. He maintains that he still has the right to use those copies, setting the stage for a potentially protracted legal dispute over the fate of the elusive Wu-Tang Clan album.

The 24-year-old was incarcerated at the Craig County Detention Center in Oklahoma, facing charges related to failure to have a tax stamp affixed on controlled dangerous substances (CDS) and possession of CDS with the intent to distribute. The charges stem from a February 2022 incident when Chrisean was found in possession of approximately one pound of cannabis during a traffic stop.

If convicted on both charges, Chrisean could face up to eight years in prison.

Harrell explained that Mary’s harsh demeanor was rooted in the trauma of her past, which she was still struggling to overcome, even as her career soared.

In addition to the document dispute, Russell is pressing for Kimora to attend a deposition in New York. However, Kimora’s legal team has pushed back, arguing that she resides in Los Angeles, where three of her five children—who are school-age minors—live with her. Her lawyer emphasized that Russell is well aware of her location, noting that he has even sued her in Los Angeles previously. Will Smith and Paramount Pictures are the center of a seven-figure lawsuit, as science fiction author Kissinger Sibanda accuses them of copyright infringement. The lawsuit claims that the 2019 film Gemini Man plagiarized Sibanda’s 2011 novel The Return to Gibraltar.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Sibanda, an American/South African national who is also an attorney, alleges that the concept of Gemini Man—which follows a former hitman targeted by a younger clone of himself—bears significant similarities to his book. Sibanda’s novel centers around an African American character cloned and unwillingly involved in a time-traveling program, a narrative he believed would be a perfect fit for Will Smith as the lead.

The lawsuit claims that the defendants, including Will Smith, Skydance Productions, Gemini Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and others, copied themes, plots, characterizations, and cultural subtexts from The Return to Gibraltar to create Gemini Man. Sibanda also alleges that after releasing his book in 2011, the defendants altered their marketing strategy for the film, reflecting the ideas from his novel.

Gemini Man, directed by Ang Lee and starring Will Smith, had been in development since 1997. Various A-list actors have been attached over the years. The screenplay was credited to Darren Lemke, David Benioff, and Billy Ray, without mentioning Sibanda’s work.

Sibanda’s lawsuit states that he shared his book idea with Will Smith’s stunt double in 2012, although he admits he cannot recall the stunt double’s name. He believes limited discovery could reveal the individual, as the defendants likely have records of Smith’s stunt doubles. Sibanda also claims to have sent a copy of his book to William Morris Endeavor, a top Hollywood talent agency, further bolstering his argument that his work was appropriated.

In 2020, Sibanda sent a legal letter to the defendants seeking a resolution, but he alleges he never received a response. Instead, he claims the defendants offered a “zero-dollar walk away,” prompting him to file the lawsuit demanding $1.7 million in damages.

Despite its high-profile cast and reported budget of $138 million, Gemini Man was not a commercial success, grossing only $173 million worldwide. Currently, Will Smith and the other defendants have yet to respond to the lawsuit.

Tameka “Tiny” Harris, wife of rapper T.I., took the witness stand in a federal courtroom in California on Wednesday to address allegations that she and her husband staged a shakedown against MGA Entertainment. The Harris couple has accused the toy giant of stealing the likeness and style of their daughter’s teen pop group, OMG Girlz, to create the wildly popular “L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G.” dolls.

Tiny, who gained fame as a member of the 90s R&B group Xscape and co-wrote the hit song “No Scrubs” for TLC, was the first witness called to testify in the trial that began on Tuesday in Santa Ana. Speaking calmly and measuredly, Tiny firmly denied that the lawsuit was motivated by financial gain. “I’m not here for a money grab. I live very comfortably, me and my husband. We’re doing pretty well for ourselves,” she stated. “It’s more about the girls. I feel like the girls built a brand, and they work hard for it,” Tiny testified. She argued that it was unjust for a large corporation like MGA to profit from the image and style that the OMG Girlz had cultivated without including them in the success. “I don’t feel that it’s right for a big company to come and take something they built and not make them a part of it,” she added.

The legal dispute dates back to December 2020, when Tiny and T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, sent a cease-and-desist letter to MGA, demanding the toy company halt distribution of its O.M.G. dolls, alleging that the dolls’ name, vibrant hair, and unique wardrobe were directly inspired by the OMG Girlz. MGA responded swiftly with a lawsuit seeking a court ruling that the company owns the name and image of the dolls. Shortly after filming a scene with Glenn Close, she was diagnosed with lung cancer, a shocking and heartbreaking development for the director. “She was in the scene with Glenn in the chemo scene, and she’s the one that sort of gave her attitude in the chemo scene,” Daniels shared. “And two days later, after being in the chemo scene, she was diagnosed with lung cancer — literally. My dog died on the set.”

The California Dream for All program provides 20 percent in down payment assistance, capped at $150,000 per applicant. It was designed to help first-time homebuyers, particularly those who have struggled to enter the housing market due to financial barriers. Last year, Stephen Harper made headlines when he filed a lawsuit against former NBA star Dwight Howard, accusing him of sexual assault and battery. The allegations included claims that Howard pressured Harper into a threesome. However, new developments have emerged as Harper has decided to drop his lawsuit.

According to a court filing obtained by ESPN, the civil lawsuit was officially dismissed on Monday in Gwinnett County Court in Georgia. The dismissal was filed by Harper, who initially brought the lawsuit against Howard in July 2023. The filing indicates that Harper has dropped all claims against Howard “with prejudice,” meaning that the lawsuit cannot be refiled on the same claims.

One of Howard’s attorneys, Justin Bailey, confirmed to ESPN that no financial settlement was made in exchange for Harper dropping the lawsuit. As of now, Harper’s legal team has not provided any comment on the matter.

This dismissal marks the end of a legal battle leaving many questions unanswered about the motivations and circumstances behind the lawsuit and its withdrawal.

Last year, singer DaniLeigh’s brother, Brandon Bills, took legal action against her ex, rapper DaBaby, following a highly publicized altercation at a Los Angeles bowling alley. The incident, which occurred in 2022, involved DaBaby and his entourage allegedly attacking Brandon, leading to a civil lawsuit that has since intensified.

Now, Brandon is seeking a multi-million dollar settlement, demanding over $4 million in damages. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Brandon is asking for $2 million in general damages and an additional $2 million in special damages.

The road to serving DaBaby with the legal papers has proven challenging. Brandon reportedly hired a private investigator and a process server to track down the rapper, but both efforts were unsuccessful. As a result, the judge approved an alternative method, allowing Brandon to post an advertisement in a newspaper to officially notify DaBaby of the lawsuit.

As of now, a judge has yet to rule on Brandon’s demand for the multi-million dollar settlement.

The family of the late singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes has made it clear they want nothing to do with former President Donald Trump’s campaign. The Hayes family has issued a strong warning, threatening a copyright infringement lawsuit against Trump and his campaign for the unauthorized use of Hayes’ song, “Hold On, I’m Coming,” which was co-written by Hayes and Dave Porter and famously performed by the R&B duo Sam & Dave in 1966.

The song has been played at multiple Trump rallies leading up to his speeches, much to the dismay of the Hayes family. In a three-page letter issued by Georgia-based attorney James L. Walker Jr., the family emphasized that they have repeatedly asked the Trump campaign to cease using the song. Despite these requests, the campaign has continued to use the track at 134 events. The Hayes family is now seeking $3 million in licensing fees for the unauthorized use of the song between 2022 and 2024.

Walker’s letter issued a clear warning: “Please be advised that failure to respond or delay in complying with these demands will be deemed evidence of intentional infringement, and we will have no choice but to proceed against all those involved, accordingly.” He added that the family hopes to resolve the issue quickly and amicably, but they are prepared to take legal action if necessary.

Isaac Hayes, a three-time Grammy winner who passed away in 2008 at the age of 65, left a significant legacy in the music industry. His son, Isaac Hayes III, has been vocal on social media about his disapproval of the Trump campaign’s use of his father’s music, expressing his intent to address the issue swiftly. Last week, Hayes III posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Donald Trump represents the worst in honesty, integrity, and class and we want no association with his campaign of hate and racism.”

Dave Porter, co-writer of “Hold On, I’m Coming,” also condemned Trump’s use of the song, offering a blunt response back in 2022 when asked about it: “Hell to the no,” he told Tennessee’s Action News 5.

As of now, Trump and his campaign team have not publicly responded to the Hayes family’s legal threat. However, this is not the first time the campaign has faced backlash over its choice of music. Just days before the Hayes family’s letter, the management team for Celine Dion criticized the Trump campaign for using her iconic song “My Heart Will Go On” at a rally in Bozeman, Montana. Dion’s team stated on social media that the use of the song was unauthorized and that Celine Dion does not endorse such use, adding a touch of bewilderment at the song choice: “And really, THAT song?”
